Subject: Weapon-R air intake for MkI MR2 Install
Hi! I ordered a Weapon-R air intake for my 88' N/A MR2. The company says
they make it and it's availible. Well.... The instruction for this
intake are very very bad. I spent 6 hours with a friend trying to
install it. No luck. So I simply took off the old air box in the trunk
and all the piping and stuck it on the hose coming from the engine. When
Trying to install it the way it says I ran into many problems with air
sensors. It also shows the intake mounted directly to the manifold. I
don't think they made this for the MR2 because the instructions say
Tercel/Corrola/Celica/camry/Paseo. I know the Corrola has the same
engine but I don't see why the MR2 is not on it??? The instructions say:
1: unbolt engine tow hook
2: unbolt entire stock intake system
3: dissconect any electrical sensors
4: clamp on silicon adaptor to throttlebody
5: clamp on Weapon-R intake pipe
6: clamp on filter
7: push silicon hose into pipe for sensor and cut to length
8: push hoses into valve cover if needed
9: your finished
Well.... I tryed all that and it didn't work....hmmm??? It might be me
but I don't know wht I did wrong.
Here's the way I did it:
1: remove all intake system parts in trunk area only
2: install silicon adaptor to intake pipe coming from engine
3: install filter onto new pipe
4: install new pipe to silicon adaptor on old pipe
I also removed the panel on the back of the trunk which hides more of
the old intake system and I pulled all of it out. I also took out the
pipe on the top left panel to allow better air flow from outside (I'm
not positive it helps but it can't hurt). I have noticed a good
difference in low-end power. So I guess the way I did it worked
somewhat. I'm not suer if the way Weapon-R tell you to do it will work
but if it does can someone tell me what I did wrong?? :) If you do know
or have any questions please e-mail me. Thanks!
Hope This Helps!!! :)
