It was great, but I only spent a day. It's almost impossible to see everything in just a day. They only new product that caught my eye was a new boost controller from Greddy called Profec. It's supposed to have the same fuzzy-logic as the EVC III, but at a lower price (somewhere around $700 - EVC III costs $1000). And I also brought home about 40 pounds worth of catalogs and literature. It is currently being used in Japan's Corolla Levin. It's also the motor now being used in Toyota Formula-Atlantic cars. These motors have been easily taken to 8500 RPM. As far as appearance, it looks like a shortened version of the 2JZGTE (Supra twin turbo). I will attempt to scan the exploded view and upload it. Unfortunately, the heads are not interchangeable. Fitting an entire motor should pose no problem. There's nothing a torch and a little fabrication can't do. In fact, there is on 20 valve motor here in California, in someone's garage - and is willing to sell it. The bad news, no parts are available for rebuild or modifications. Actually, it was replaced at 46K miles for free under warranty when the dealer rebuilt my tranny (4th gear shift fork broke- trashing the rest of the tranny at the same time). I don't think the clutch needed to be replaced at that time but I didn't complain. :) Mark MKII turbo t-top red 142K miles Mark Shehan - Ford Electric Vehicle Powertrain Engrg. Dept. It is sort of a two person operation, one to see if the throttle linkage on the engine is opening fully, one to bend and push the gas pedal. My car came with the throttle on the engine only opening about 2/3 of the way when the gas pedal was floored. Made tons of difference. I can peg the turbo gauge now and performance on the track was much improved. Mirrors, door handles are formed in the color for the car, they are not painted. Bumpers are painted with "flex" additive paint. I dropped my '91 Turbo off at a local Lexus dealer yesterday morning for a valve-adjustment and timing-belt change (cheaper than Toyota, free loaner car, and they even said they'd wax it if they had time!). The service writer complimented me on my "beautiful car." I said "It should have been a Lexus - it'd be much more successful if it was." He said he'd heard rumours that it might indeed be resurrected as a Lexus model. Cool! I'd love to see Toyota/Lexus put the $$ in to turn the MR2 into an NSX-killer. In a somewhat related, also depressing story, the San Jose Mercury News reported this morning that Nissan has announced that 1996 will be the last year for the 300ZX in America. :( - - Mark - --- Mark Dadgar | "If English was good enough for Jesus Network/Systems Admin. | Christ, then it's good enough for me." Looks like Honda made the little 2 seater work where Toyota failed in a big way. Del Sol: Advantages: Economy, open air driving, front wheel drive in the snow, looks, front engine (easier maintenance) Disadvantages: Two seats, no luggage space, short on power, poor automatic (at least, the one I drove wasn't good), poor handling MR2: Advantages: Power/Fast (both models have more power than the Del Sol) Looks, open air driving (t-top models), mid engine (better handling), performance suspension/great handling. Disadvantages: Two seats, no luggage space, so/so transmissions, mid engine a little more difficult to work on, economy. Forgive me NA owners, but I'm going to try and do the fairest comparison here I can come up with. The MR2 NA is quick, handles great, etc. Costs about the same as a loaded Del Sol (a little more), and pays back in a big way for the disadvantages. It's almost like the Del Sol pays the "sporty price" and never gets the goods. (ie. sports car handling and power) Not meant to start a flame war, just something I thought was interesting. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | mikep@diane.csg.mot.com | Email to mr2_faq_request@diane.csg.mot.com | +--------------------------+ with subject "FAQ" for a copy of the most recent| |1993 MR2Turbo #223 FRINGE1| MR2 FAQ. In my opinion, the MRJ is butt-ugly! Especially from the back and from the side. Horrible. And underpowered too. The 2nd generation MR2 being of the most gorgeous automobiles, I'm really disappointed about the possible "successor".
