I would very much want to put in on my 93 MR2 since i hate the stock steering wheel, it's too big andmy lap always rub the wheel. i was wondering has anyone tried to put a aftermarket steering wheel in a MKII? i am hesitating becuz i don't know if i can still use the cruise control still and whether i should sacrifice stafety by removing the airbag. I find it very hard to believe that a stock engine could withstand 20 psi of boost for any length of time and still hold together. He should be blowing head gaskets, and burning pistons. Also I find it hard to believe that the stock injectors could deliver sufficient fuel. No, I seriously doubt that this engine was anywhere near stock. - -- + ------------------------------------------------- + + +++ N E C +++ +++ A M E R I C A +++ + + ------------------------------------------------- + + Marc L. Question: you have seen other "stock" MR2s that push 20 psi of boost? How many pieces was the engine in after the 1/4 mile run? I find this very hard to believe, after having several long conversations with Cal Smith and a few others, I myself don't dare push even 17 psi boost. And the stock turbo isn't good for anything much above 17.5 psi, let alone the injectors to deliver the fuel and a few dozen other parts needed. So 20 psi is out of the question for a stock engine, unless you want to scrape what's left of the turbo off the inside of the engine compartment. Now I could believe 20 psi with a turbo upgrade, new rods (shot peened), metal head gasket, blueprinted balanced forged pistons, (the crank should be OK stock), beefed up injectors, (the ones on the supra will work OK), and Jacobs wires and a Crane HI6 ignition, and you just might have it. Otherwise, 20 psi, sure, for a minute or two, then the stock engine would be ready for the scrap heap. I would have to see a long history of engine performance at this 20 psi boost level before believing this. Any examples, names of people that normally run their MR2 at this level, email addresses, so I could talk with them would be appreciated. I would very much like to find out more about these "serious MR2s" Thanks. A I>colleague at work suggested that the denser oxygen from cooler temperatures I>is the major contributor to this effect. That's exactly the reason. It's also why the turbocharged engine has an intercooler - to cool the compressed air after the turbo has heated it up. Warm air is less dense, therefore there is less oxygen actually contained in a given volume. Scott MacLean CASMEL-I Artificial Horizons BBS arthor@cais.com Aviation! Gerald, I'd like to know whether extrude honing the intake manifold yields good improvement in performance. I understand that TVIS really restricts power increases and some two racers dump the Fuel injection for Twin webers (or at least the NA owners). So, for the NA, does it increase performance significantly? How about extrude honing as a way of porting the cylinder head? Is it possible to buy an extrude honed intake manifold? How much does it set you back? Date: Mon, 13 Nov 95 12:58:00 EST Subject: Wheel Center Cap Discoloration The center caps on the wheels on my '94T are turning yellow. It's as if the silver paint on them is coming off. The car only has 5000 miles on it, and only half of that is on these stock wheels. Is this a common problem? I've used these wheels for autocrossing and I left the center caps on because the wheels are ugly without them. Did heat from the brakes cause this? Much props out to Tony from Cyber though, he hit a 12.06 in his Integra, and I was hoping to see him break into the 11's, but he decided to pack it in for the day. Maybe next time, but his accomplishment is a real big one considering he doesn't have a whole pit crew and company backing him like the Honda Service Center car!! I have a stock 91 Turbo and I'm getting tired of getting spanked by 300ZX Twin Turbos and LT1 Camaros/TramsAms. What can I do to get in the ballpark of these cars? I do not want to do any internal mods just yet. (never really) I just want some suggestions for those who have done mods and what they think about them. I also follow the bang for the buck theory, so if you know the price of the things you suggest that would be a great help as well.
