I went from Illinois to Napa Valley, CA, then down to San Diego, Tucson AZ, St. Louis, and home. In all, I put over 6000 miles on the car in two weeks! What I can recommend from the experience: 1. Get your oil changed before you go. 2. If you haven't change the transmission fluid in quite some time, you may want to do that also. 3. Fill your washer fluid container. 4. Put new wiper blades on the car. 5. Keep an extra quart of oil in the car, and some towels are always useful. You never know when you want to stop and wash all the dirt off the car. 6. Try to drive in some of the western states that have now eliminated their speed limits! ;-) I think Nevada was going to do that. 7. Don't worry about putting on the miles. It won't hurt the car. I have 134,000 miles on mine. From daily driving, the trip to CA and back, two trips to key west, a trip to eastern PA, and other numerous shorter trips. I hope this advice from an experienced MR2 traveler helps. You may also find that if you are driving any long distances, it really is easy to sit behind the wheel of an MR2 for 8 hours or more! I'm almost to 135,000 miles on my 91 MR2, and there is someone on this list thats up around 145,000 miles. I don't have a turbo, but there is nothing wrong with the engine, and the struts are still pretty good. I'll probably replace them next summer. I'm told that the engine can probably go over 200,000 miles without any serious work being done to it. About the only thing you do need to do is to change the timing belt every 60,000 miles or so. (of course I let mine go to 106,000, and it was still good) *-----------------------------------------------------------------* * Scott McBurney '91 MR2 Auto 134k miles License: QUIK MR 2 * * Internet: smcburne@dewar.mhs.compuserve.com * * Dewar Information Systems - A Sysdeco Media Company * * 3050 Finley Road, Suite 301 * * Downers Grove, IL 60515 "I drive, therefore I am" * *-----------------------------------------------------------------* begin 600 WINMAIL.DAT M>)\^(C,5`0:0" `$```````!``$``0>0!@`(````Y 0```````#H``$-@ 0` M`@````(``@`!!) &`%@!```!````# ````,``# #````"P`/#@`````"`?\/ M`0```%T`````````@2L?I+ZC$!F=;@#=`0]4`@````!V86QI9&=H(6UR,BUD M:6=E``(P`0````4```!33510`````!X``S !````( `` M`'9A;&ED9V@A;7(R+61I9V5S=$!U=6YE="YU=2YN970``P`5# $````#`/X/ M!@```!X``3 !````(@```"=V86QI9&=H(6UR,BUD:6=E# $````%````4TU44 `````>`!\,`0```! ` M``!S8V]T=$!D97=A)S M=&5M`H,S]P+D!Q,"@'T*@ C/"=D"@ <*@0VQ"V!N9S$P,T\44 L*%%$+\2 ^ M!=!YK"!Q"E 3P&D"(" $`+(N&F @=Q& !4!C`Y%@22!E>' %D 5 =.AO(&X) MX&0;LA80"K!V:07 "X @!; $@1NR:YD)X' @"H498'1H! !3&N$%P&=O"X!G M&[(Q.#4P2P70`Q 'D"P@8B@>@&4@; :0()!OUF8><2"1;P!P*1J (= V5R" M`Z!D&] 3P')U[G0$(!WW&_9B() 1<1? ?PF (<$B!0>1('(BD !Q;2L$`1H! Therefore, you're basically getting the dual-friction disc with a pressure plate almost the same pressure as stock. I've been through two of them and they're almost worthless. The best combo I've seen is the TRD pressure plate (I don't know if they're still available) and a puck-style disc . Sorry, I didn't realize this was a non-US MR2! I just assumed it was a California spec one when you described that 'silencer'. Well, you should still have the option of buying the $185 (US) header pipe that has neither a catalytic convertor OR silencer, right? Is your MR2 a turbo?
