Probably $200 minimum plus the cost to surface the flywheel. Charles Is this how much labor is on a clutch install??? OK, I know I am comparing apples and oranges, flame me if you wish, My first clutch change on my Fiero (god rest it's soul, had a run in with an F-150) cost me <$600.00 and I shopped around (this was before I got my lift) now, the clutch intallation is the same, right? Put it on a lift, brace the engine with strut crain, drop the tranny and such out the bottom, and change the friction plate, presure plate, throw out bearring, and rear main seal, right? how can this only cost $200??? If a timing belt costs $600 with the part being $50 of that $600, how can the clutch labor be so cheap?? I have a Mr2 Turbo, but I am thinking of getting a Lexus SC400 as a second car. These cars are not offically brought into Australia by Lexus, but there are a few importer who does this. They import the car via Japan called the Soarer. I cam get the 4litre V8 or the 3litre twin turbo straight six (manual). I need to get some opinions good or bad about this car. Which one is the better car, the six or the V8. Thanks in advance. John Wan. <<<>>> Well, the V8 is probably the better tourer but the 6 has a lot more hop-up potential, since you can use pretty much all the stuff they have for the Supra TT. I think. Which one is less expensive, and is the turbo 6 available with a manual tranny? >>> The Soarer was fitted with the V8 or the sportier 1JZ-GTE. This is the 2.5 litre baby brother to the Supra engine. Were they fitted with the 2JZ-GTE (3litre) later? The 1JZ-GTE produces 280bhp (JIS) and in the Soarer has a very restrictive exhaust as the typical owner in Japan wants silence. The Soarer setup doesn't use a intercooler due to lack of airflow. The 1JZ did come with a 5spd though it is very rare. I looked at buying the engine for my 83 Celica Supra and have the chassis plate at home. They use the Supra R154 gearbox. This was Toyota's technology showcase with an optional TV screen and camera in the rear spoiler for reversing. They have no rear springs and instead use variable hydraulic dampers. These keep maximum roll to 1 degree at full lateral acceleration! There are a lot of performance parts in Japan for the 1JZ-GTE but in the Soarer you may be limited unless you can fit an intercooler. The engine setup is very well done. Distributorless ignition etc and the only parts not actually mounted to the engine are the map sensor, ignition module and computer. Simplified a transplant. You won't get a engine manual in english though!! later Richard - ------------------------------------------------- Richard Doig doigr@fphcare.fp.co.nz 1987 Toyota Celica GT-Four - --MimeMultipartBoundary-- ------------------------------ From: "Stephen F. It's a full size tank that stands 9 feet off the ground. It has twin compressors and a high voltage electric motor. It needs ocasional oiling, but nothing big, as you described. He had the house built with lots of 220 volt outlets and entirely seperate fuse box for it. He's Norwegian, and "has to have them". He ran the compressor lines up to the garage cieling, and the feed hoses drop down from there with a retractible cable, (acts like a seatbelt). He runs all his air tools on it, fills stuff, cleans the garage, and blows thing away. All he needs now is a lift, and he's got a full fledged shop! I definately recomend it. He had to bolt down the compressor into the concrete. Make sure it's mounted well, or it will make a hell of a noise. I believe the manufacturer was Bell and Howell or something like that. He got it at Home Depot for about $350 - $400. Hope this helps. Nothing like taking lug nuts off with air tools verses a potentially destructive impact wrench. :) +------------------------------------+ | Neil Grenning | | 91' Turbo MR2 | | Computer Programmer/Graphics Major | | Tacoma, Washington | +------------------------------------+ On Wed, 7 May 1997, Steve Bagdon wrote: > After finally buying our own house, I talked my wife into letting me get > an air compressor. If you arrive in the early afternoon, you'll catch the second half of the autocross at least, especially since there will be over 100 cars attending (not all MR2's :-) ). The autocross will last AT LEAST until 3pm, then the BBQ will start (on Saturday), and us MR2 owners can join the BBQ, or we'll see what everyone wants to do, and maybe we'll go out for dinner. There will also be racing on the main track which we don't want to miss, so arriving in the early afternoon will put you right in the middle of everything, heck the first car in the autocross won't leave the line until at least 11am. > How many MR2 definites do you have so far? > Here's who I know are attending so far: Jeff Fazio ('91 Turbo, White) Phil Cutajar ('93 Turbo, White) Aly AbulKheir ('85 NA , Red ) Anthony Defeo ('93 NA , White) Brian Palmer ('91 Turbo, Red ) Joe Pearlstein ('91 NA , Red ) There are a few more who have shown interest including Jim Gettler, and a few others. Summers-SysAdmin" Date: Thu, 08 May 1997 4:32:58 PDT Subject: MR2 MKII Maximum Boost Hello All: With all of this recent talk about what the CT-26 can and can not produce on a regular basis, I thought I would put in my experience and findings, and I am sure that Cal Smith, if he would like to add a few comments would find the same. I have typically been running between 16 and 17 psi boost. I have a few mods, incluing an HKS Super Power Flow filter and a Edlebrock RPM series muffler, with 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipe. The CT-26, at least in my experience is easily capable of 18 psi of boost, relative to sea level, I am about 200 or possibly 300 feet above sea level. The main limiting factor here is the stock intercooler and its heat soaking. But I must agree that 18 psi and above for the stock CT-26 is pushing the limit, and it becomes inefficient at those higher levels of output. But I have also measured the ability of the CT-26 to push over 22 PSI so it hasn't run out of air at 18 psi. Although I would not expect to run it very long at that high a level and have the seals hold. So what I am saying here is that up to 18 psi of boost relative to sea level of course, I think with the proper outlet cooling, the CT-26 can hold its own, any much above that level, and I would say you are at the limit if you expect to get that level of output for any extended period of time. - -- + ------------------------------------------------- + + +++ N E C +++ +++ A M E R I C A +++ + + ------------------------------------------------- + + Marc L. At what volume and engine RPM are you seeing those numbers? I also have been able to boost as much as 1.3 or 1.4 bar in over boost mode on my Profec, but it peaks and dips back down to .8 ro .9 bar. Teh return is not one that appears to be ecu induced, but a falling off as it struggles under compressing that much air(volume) to that pressure (density). Yes I have an intercooler upgrade, and it is working quite well. The runs were conducted on a chasis dyno with intercooler fan running constant on, cool air supplied to both intercooler and air intake and even a large shop-jet type fan blowing across the radiator in an attempt to mimic real movement. Granted I have an original ct-26 with 86,000 miles on it, so perhaps I should be impressed that it still boosts at all, much less to 16 or 18 psi, but I think that a Turbonetics rebuild, removal of the first cat, or an entire turbo kit might help. I am currently in de;iberation over whethere to install a VPC next or install a turbo next and wait to do a full DFI. Any thoughts? Ciao Bryan ------------------------------ End of mr2-digest V1 #1068
