The fronts can be squeezed back by inserting a large "socket" into the piston and squeezing the whole thing "gently" back with a pair of Clamp Pliers The rears can also be "screwed" in with the tips of a pair of Needle Nose Pliers. Be sure to use your Turkey Baster to remove enough fluid from the Master Cylinder to allow for the rise in level caused by the compression of the pistons. This is also a great time to disassemble and re-lube the sliding parts of your calipers, especially if the pads are worn unevenly and change your old fluid... ...and, WELCOME Cathy! I've had numerous mechanics make mistakes fixing my car or motorcycle. When I've bought the problem up with the shop owners, they have always been happy to fix them at no charge. The way I look at, it it's like when there are bugs in my software I fix them for the customer. I explained this to one service manger when he wanted to kill the employee who made the mistake. They don't like us and they are befuddled by after market enhancements. The service managers don't like the owners because we are picky and not as easily bullshitted as Tercel owners. We bring the car back dissatisfied if the 0 to 60 time is 3/10ths off or if grease smudges were left on the valve covers. The work promised for today ends up taking two days of and course this being friday........ The mechanics don't like the cars for the same reasons and the confined spaces means longer repair hours and fewer smoke breaks. Their idea of a test drive is going around the block, they'll never know about that little blip you feel when you hit 90 mph. Their philosophy is to replace components until they hit the right one and tell you they all needed replacing. Maybe. I have found more advanced diagnostic equipment at independents than at dealers. Factory trained mechanics have gone the way of customer satisfaction. At the dealer you will pay a minimum 1 hour ($60 in Chicago) fixed or not. Independents don't charge you if they can't remedy your problem. Unlike the independent garage, Toyota service managers and mechanics get a paycheck every friday whether the customer is satified or not. And if he doesn't come back they're are millions of Toyota customers with simpler problems are waitng in line. The MR2T is a reliable performance car. Thats why we own them. Most Toyota owners drive reliable transportation and thats all they want for the average four years that they will own them. For them good enough is good enough. When it comes to mechanics I like being able to talk to a real motorhead who understands what I want and expect from my car. Thats why the smaller but wiser shop for me. Please excuse the rant. Well the Willow Springs Track Day is going good. I now have 20 people signed up. I got 2 from the Toyota Mods list, ( the mods list and the Supra list wanted to know why it was not filled with just MR2s????? ) the line up from the mods list = ( 1 MIT GSX, 1 GTS, and 1 89SC from the mods list ) this is great. If i can get five more guys it would be perfect. As of now the entry fee is $125 , if i get the five more it drops to $97. This event will be a full track day. This will NOT be a "race" but a chance to drive your MR2 on a safe and controlled track. We will not have any passing in the turns. Don't be scared of this event, many people will agree the a track is the safest place to drive ! Think about it, you drive on the street at speeds well above the "speed limit" and take many chances. Like other cars, you have no control over other drivers. The road condition on a track is set and NO SURPRISES! The cars will be spaced apart and you will be driving with people who have the same ability as yourself. We will trade off in 30min shifts. You will not be pressured into going fast or doing anything you don't want to do. Basic info: Willow is located in California , 30 minutes north of Palmdale/Lancaster. The date of the Rally/Track day is July12. We will have lost of fun and a BBQ after. More details to come on the BBQ. You can come watch for free and support the drivers if you want. So come on out and have fun. Email me for more info..... Yes, Tommy, it is a shame that Renault never seriously entered North America. The same can be said for Alfa Romeo - they had their successor to the Spyder half engineered for the US then decided to pull out... Say while I'm here here's 2 hints that may be of help to the list. Recently my trunk cable (Mk 1) went slack - I started tearing apart the trunk lining - - checking everthing but the problem. It turned out to be right at the pulling lever (by the front seat). The cable simply slipped off the frame. I had the seat out to clean my monthly accumulation of "Bo-fur" (hair from Mr. Bo) and it was fairly easy to fix - I think it would be harder to gain access w/o pulling the seat. You have to remove the door sill panel and pull the carpet through the hole and off the lever(s). But once there fix is 5 seconds... I just ordered another windsheild cover for our hot summers - I order them direct from Covercraft (800-382-3040). They are custom made for each windshield and a strong reflective material. Cost around $35+add $5 for a bag. In about 6 years the sun as almost disintegrated the old one - but when you get in the car is a good 30 degrees (F) cooler...BTW Covercraft sells to catalogs - I've seen 'em at Imparts for $42 + bag... Well, back to work! Bill Oh, BTW Tommy now both of us are published in R&T... William L. Brandt wlb@calweb.com Sacramento, CA ------------------------------ End of mr2-digest V1 #1176
