This style steering wheel wrap is like a large wide rubber band. the whole thing slips onto the wheel and then gets sewn together. that way, the exterior, front and rear surfaces of the wheel are smooth leather, except in two places it is sewn together. it takes about 30 minutes or so to install. well worth it, IMHO if my description isn't clear and anyone really cares, i can scan an illustration or something. bob rogers: anderson, south carolina 93NA 85,000 miles bob@carol.net ------------------------------ From: "Ardell L. I am pissed off, when I asked when the actual delivery date was, the guy said, "I don't know why your getting so pissy, you didn't even put a deposit down for it!" well, the reason I didn't, is because he told me I didn't need to. Busted power antenna! Jeffrey, My antenna quit one week after I bought my MR2 last September. After checking the aftermarket antennas and finding them unsuitable because it mounts in the metal body under the side wing trim, I broke down and bought the replacement shaft kit for 45 bucks. Its an intricate job to replace but can be done by the inexperienced mechanic. What happend is the nylon linear gear breaks. It is integrally attached to the stainless mast. Busted power antenna! Robert, the Toyota MR2 Antenna is designed to mount on the metal body underneath the plastic side wing that blends into rear wing. Aftermarket units wouldn't work in this arrangement. Jeffrey's problem matches one I had last October. The stock replacement for the whole unit costs about $150. The repair kit costs about $45. Using the repair kit, I replaced it myself. Intricate, but not impossible. Joe Dyer - SF Bay Area - '92MR2 Turbo w. Enjoy! Joe Dyer - SF Bay Area - '92MR2 Turbo w. HKS EVC/Exhaust - --------- Begin forwarded message ---------- A man was driving home late one afternoon, and he was driving above the speed limit. He notices a police car with its red lights on in his rear view mirror. He thinks "I can outrun this guy," so he floors it and the race is on. The cars are racing down the highway -- 60, 70, 80, 90 miles and hour. Finally, as his speedometer passes 100, the guy figures "what the heck," and gives up. He pulls over to the curb. The police officer gets out of his cruiser and approaches the car. He leans down and says "listen mister, I've had a really lousy day, and I just want to go home. Give me a good excuse and I'll let you go." The man thought for a moment and said... "Three weeks ago, my wife ran off with a police officer. (I-NET)" Date: Tue, 10 Jun 97 07:48:00 PDT Subject: MR2 Timimg Belts Revisited Someone in my office handed me some information from Alldata you all might interested in. Seeing how we had yet another debate over the timing belt issue we might be able to put this thing to rest. The document covers all cars from 1974 -1996 that have timing belts. It tells what cars have free-running engines and which ones have interference engines. If you want to know if one of your engines is free-running or interference and I don't list it then mail me directly and I can look it up for you. One thing that surprised me is that some Toyotas are interference engines that are timing belt equipped (contrary to what I believed). Here are the Toyota's that ARE interference engines: the new 3.4L V6 in the Tacoma/T100/4Runner (I wonder why, the old engine is not?) the 3.0L V6 in the Avalon the 1.5L in the 80-88 Corolla/Tercel the 2.0L in the RAV4 the 1.5L in the 88-93 Tercel the 4.0L V8 in the 90-93 SC400 AND LS400 the 3.0L in the 92-93 SC300 The good news is no MR2 has an interference engine. Also, no Celica or Supra either. Only the Toyotas listed above are interference. Interesting how only a few years of the Lexus are interference and the newer ones are not. The bad news as listed before (interference engines): All Acura and Honda (the NSX was not listed, I wonder if it has a chain or gears?). And a couple new ones: All Audi, all Geo, all Hyundai, all Isuzu, all Mitsubishi, all Nissan, and all Volvo are interference. If anyone wants a copy of this let me know and maybe I can find someone with a scanner. I once got pulled over in a 60 zone for doing 62kmh, in Australia there is a 9 kmh leeway so you are allowed to do 69kmh without hassle in a 60 zone, but this stupid cop was going along at what according to my speedo was under 60, naturally I wasn't going to speed at all with a squad car right there in the left lane, but I drove by at an indicated 60kmh just ever so slowly drifting past this cop in the slow lane. We also have a keep left rule so as soon as I was past him I moved into the left lane. He pulled me over for speeding (he said NEVER overtake a police car), and tailgating (I only left about 2 or 3 car lengths between me and the car in front when I shifted into the left lane...it seemed safe enough at such a slow speed, but he disagreed). I was given a warning, not a fine, but again, while he was pulling me over, somewhere around the corner there was probably someone doing 100kmh, and being far worse than me! ------------------------------ End of mr2-digest V1 #1188
