On the loaded '94T that I used to own it was much more difficult, but I was able to read them without removing the engine side panel. I'm sure it helped that the car was new and the engine was spotless so the marks stand out more. BTW, when I checked them both cars were right at the factory timing spec. The '94T was pinging a bit under full boost so I retarded the timing a little, but it didn't help. (Maybe I just thought it was pinging.) Toyota All-Trac trannies are out of the question. The MR2 follows the same transverse configuration as the other front-end front-drive cars (ie: engine on left, tranny on right, exhaust facing front, intake facing rear, etc). A '90 Camry All-Trac and '91 MR2 NA are basically the same engines (5S-FE), with the MR2 basically the same configuration but with the engine in the rear. The point? The Camry All-Trac (and Celica All-Trac Turbo, and Corolla All-Trac Wagon) all have the engine on the right, the tranny on the left, and the transfer case point backwards (someone please correct me if I'm incorrect!). That means if you tried (and were even able) to install the All-Trac tranny into an MR2, the output shaft would be facing towards the rear of the car, not the front. Thinking of flipping the transfer case, so that it faced forward? Don't bother, then the case would be going through the oil pan, and probably through the crank. If anyone knows of anything short of using a Porsche 911 C4 all-wheel-drive system, please let me know! I am in the process of purchasing a 92 NA MR2 (93 US Spec) with 70,000Km (42,000miles) that is totally stock, and in great condition. (Japanese import) My questions related to performance upgrades for the 3S-GE engine: 1) Where can I find information on the Web for upgrade options for a 3S-GE? (The MR2 web site has info on the 5S-AE but not the 3S-GE) 2) What are the hp and torque ratings for the Japanese sourced 92 (US 93) spec 3S-GE, and what are they for the upgrades in question 1? 3) Where should I get the parts? (Perhaps best answered by a New Zealand based member) 4) What diet of oils should a NA engine and transmission be put on? (I will go Synthetic unless someone says this is a really dumb idea, Mobil 1, Redline???) Synthetic oils are more viscous - I'll tell you a funny story - I was sending oil in for an analysis, and despite tightening the cap as tight as i could without stripping the threads, the stuff (Mobil 1 15-50) was seeping out the cap! I ended up sealing the sample in a bag before mailing. now, in cars WITHOUT A COMPUTER SET IDLE, you can see an idle increase of up to 100 RPM when switching from a conventional oil to a synthetic. I have noticed this. On the i.dsle adjustment, on the Mk 1 (AW 11) there are only 2 adjustments that I'm aware of....the idle adjustment screw, protected by a rubber cap) around the TVIS manifold, and the a/c adjustment on the left side inside of the fender. You adjust the latter when the a/c compressor is on - and it is used to comphensate the slower idle with the load on the a/c compressor. bill ------------------------------ From: "N.
