As someone who knows very little about what these do, I would be grateful for some advise: Does it increase the power? By how much? What is the whistling noise it makes when you take your foot off the gas? What are the pros and cons of having one? In the UK do you have to inform your insurance about it? How much extra will they charge? The optional alloy rims [ ] usually have a less positive more agressive looking offset.(out toward the fender more) Disclaimer #3: The Miata has a 54mm hub. I don't beleive any manufacturer uses a smaller hub but when dealing with Isuzu, who knows. definitely measure before buying....feel free to update us on this if you know. Disclaimer #4: When dealing with wheels if you don't/can't trial fit them before you buy them.......you are taking a chance. Use this info as a guide if you wish, but always trial fit. Note #1: Although many manufacturers warn that correct hub size is critical to centering the wheel on the car, wheels for these late model cars also have their lug holes drilled on center to the hub center. Enthusiasts have been swapping different rims arounnd for years with few problems. In fact, most economy priced aftermarket rim manufacturers (ARE,Ultra,Superior...) seem to pay little or no attention to hubcentric design at all. Note #2: It would be great to get the weights on all the alloy rims listed here. So...... if anyone is working at a recycler and has a scale Please up-date us........It'll just help you sell more used rims. Note #3: When shopping for rims don't forget; any aftermarket rims you see people advertising as having been on any of these vehicles are also good candidates for you. But be aware of the exact specs for the rim that's for sale. Engine Failure: MkII NA Well so much for my honeymoon period. After 8000 trouble-free miles my '91 NA stranded me last night. Now it's time for my accelerated course in MR2 repair. Symptoms: While driving at highway speeds last night the engine abruptly died and all the warning lights came on. After coasting to a stop by the side of the road I found a trail of coolant leading back into the distance and a big puddle underneath the car. From cursory examination by flashlight everything from the head up is completely dry, but a few spatters of coolant are visible down deep on the passenger side of the engine. From underneath the passenger side rear suspension is (of course) soaked in coolant. The coolant fill reservoir was empty, but popping the high pressure cap for the cooling system the fluid level was only a couple of inches below the cap. In other words, I dumped plenty of coolant but don't think I completely drained the system. This is as far as the exam went before I caught a ride home at 11 PM. The Warning Signs: For about the last 300 miles I've heard a screachy noise - possibly belt like, but sounded a bit more "internal", that would fade on warm up and at engine speeds above 2K. 5 minutes before the failure when starting the car the noise was particularly loud and sounded more like a bad bearing (waater pump?) than a belt. Popping the engine cover the noise appeared to be coming from the passenger side of the engine, but I couldn't localize it any better by ear. It quieted somewhat (but didn't completely go away) when I revved the motor to about 2500 and since I was in a place where I couldn't leave the car overnight I tried to limp home - unsuccessfully. Other than this noise the engine ran completely fine, smoothly and with no loss of power until the moment of failure. The car: '91 NA with 60K miles and no modifications. Though I've been driving the car for several months I'm woefully naive about it's engine control system. Is there some kind of interlock that would shut the engine down if my water pump failed or is the coolant likely to be just a red herring in a more serious problem like a timing belt failure ? Me: I have extensive auto repair experience, but none in MR2's. I don't have a BGB (though I guess I'm getting one real soon) so I don't even know how to read out the engine diagnostic codes. Hell, other than the standard side points I don't even know what the safe undercar jack points are. Other cars I've just jacked from the differential or beafy rear suspension components, but the MR2 looks like it might not like this. If the problem's likely to be something simple and repairable on roadside in a few hours then I'll take a shot. If not I can bite the bullet and just drag it to a nearby repair shop. Any advice from the assembled wisdom of the list would be appreciated. My 1991 MKII Turbo has developed a coolant leak from the driver side front of the car... (ie where the radiator is). It is getting worse, and I'm having to add coolant on a regular basis... I'm having trouble pin-pointing where it is coming from... I removed the front undercovers, wiped everything down, but can't see where the leak is coming from (seems to only happen right after a drive)...but then it's all wet under there and I still can't see where the leak is coming from. Has anyone else had this problem? It leaking form the driver side front.. not on the side with the radiator drain plug.
