We all waste money from time to time. Do you have the Imparts catalogue? I can't find mine (probably at the office) but they carry the RedLine line. I think $52 was high. I spent $80 once just to let my shop drain the transmission & differential on my 300E...I had gotten water in the system from heavy rains. So it saved me $4000 down the line. Then we just had a long thread about how most Nercedes shops (including dealers) don't bother draining the torque converter because it drains slow and messes up their flat rate price for auto trans fluid/filter change. Bottom line is that most shops leave half the old fluid in. So I'm going to try that myself. If you do things yourself you get the satisfaction of knowing they're done right. Now I've got 2 86 MR2's I'll do some maintenance on. My question is what do most of you use to fill the transaxle? I bought a pump at Griots Garage but found out it fits only Sta-Lube bottles. Last time I filled my transxle, I took 3 bottles of Amzoil synthetic gear oil to the dealer....finding a compentent honest dealer could start a whole new thread...the one I go to was rated in the top 10 in the US... Next time you're driving, use one finger (I'm not going to suggest which one), and hold down the deflector. Listen for a low hum or resonance. It's there. It still exsists somewhat even with the deflectors up, but is greatly reduced. My 88 SC MR2 needs a new clutch I think.? The car has 67k miles and the clutch is original. There is alot of play. I can press the clutch half way to the floor before I feel anything. Is this play adjustible at all? If so how? If I do need a new clutch is an aftermarket clutch like the Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch worth the premium price? The brochure says this clutch "delivers 90% more holding power than OEM with light pedal operation. Designed to handle high horsepower and high torque output in street." This sounds terrific. What the hell does it mean. Could somebody explain in laymens terms....... I have found new stock clutch from Toyo to be 195$, cheapest I have found the Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch 441$. The VPC addresses only air flow metering, the FCD only the stock manifold pressure transducer. The VPC wiring harness has a break in the wire that comes from the stock transducer to the ECU specifically for wiring in the FCD. If you aren't using a FCD you need to connect these two wires together or you'll have an incorrect fuel-air mixture under certain conditions (generally too rich). You may also find that the overboost protection kicks in at random times. When I installed my VPC we forgot to reconnect this wire (which comes disconnected) and I had minor problems for several weeks before I noticed it wasn't connected. ...Richard Thanks Richard for the clarification. If you were working under the dash, check the connection at the back of the speedometer; otherwise, check the end that screws onto the top of the transmission. Mine has vibrated itself loose there a couple of times. It's also remotely possible that the speedo cable has become kinked during the alarm install. In that case, it'll have to be replaced.
