One oddity is that one of the times I desperately tried to start it, it did catch fine, and then climbed right to 4500rpms without any throttle from me. Hnmm..seems like a fuel delivery issue... All in all it was a great day IMHO! I would like to REALLY thank all the Virginia IMOCERs that came up!!! 6 total from Virginia and we had a total(I think) for the whole day of 19 IMOCERS. 'Sunday' started ealry when 4 Virginia guys came to Reading Saturday night, and I waited on them at the Fine Dining Restaurant that I work at. I was AMAZED that Bryan Moore wore shoes to dinner(He is from VA Beach and apparently never uses those shoe things much!). So we a BS'd a bit and they called it a night. Sunday Morning went as planned. we all socialized at the mall for an hour or so, and then the poker rally 'worker's' took off to get to there sights. 10 minutes later I sent off the Poker Players. 20 minutes after that, I took 5 of the VA guys that did not want to play 'poker', on a little ride. I introduced the mto some good PA back roads!...which I might add were CLEARLY marked for turns/speeds, and there were even lines painted!.....we led a 'spunky', but safe pace that allowed us to enjoy theroad and our cars 8) I then took them up Duryea Drive to the top of Skyline drive. Duryea winds up a pretty sttep hill, and is made up of a long series of 180 degree turns 8) Eventualy the poker players/workers found there way up there(except for Chris Conrad and Aly!). we all hit lunch and then we 'took over' rt 422 towards Philadelphia to hit a 'serious' Go Kart place. The one thing I longed for in an MR2 trip was to have a LOT of two's side by side cruising down a highway....I got that wish today. Myself and Brian Bradlel drove next to each otehr with double rows of MR2's as far back as teh eye could see!!!! We drove like that, at a consistent 60 mph) for almost 25 miles!!! Go Karts were fun and of course there was a BIG FAZIO CRASH!!! Actually, I was being polite by moving to the oputside to let a faster Go Kart take the inside when Aly decided to pass us both on the outside!!! needless to say Aly went for the same line I was already taking and he was in a much faster car.....he plowed meinto the wall!!!!!! There are pictures on my web page, and anyone who got pictures please forward the mif you can!!! THANKS TO ALL THE POKER RALLY WORKERS!!!! It has come on, but it appears to be intermittent. Since the car starting ignition system has been trouble free for 8 years, and now the light problem started last week, and now the inability to run the car, I wonder if there is a relationship. Could the connector for the fuel sender gauge be loose? Would this affect the ignition? Grasping at straws... You can fit 225 BFG R1s or Toyo Proxes RA1 all around on the car, but you will need 1/4" thick spacers for the front to do so. You can also run Kumhos, but they only make a 205 tire. The Hoosiers can be run 225 rear and 205 front, with spacer not required. The Hoosiers are a bit fatter, so I don't think you can fit a 225 on the front. Thanks in advance. I ran on steel rims for the first year and half while I looked for some extra stock alloys. No big deal. The stock alloys are not that light anyway (about 19 pounds?) and the steels are not that heavy, but eventually, you will be looking for some take off stock alloy rims (check the MR2 classifieds). This is the bar graph that shows your injector output when the numerical display is set to boost/vacuum (sp?). When the numerical display is set to display the injector percentage (BTW I dunno how accurate it is), the colored bar graph will display boost. The graph itself will only display up to 1.5 bar, but if you try to adjust the boost setting, you will see that you can set it all the way up to 2.0 bar (about 29.4 PSI, as I understand it), so I guess what I'm trying to say is that the AVC-R CAN be set up to 2.0 bar just like the Profec A. The fuse and bulbs are fine. All the other lights and electrical doodads work just fine. I'm guessing it is probably the wiring. Can anyone tell me where to find the right wire? Thanks again to everyone for the great advice. You'll be glad to know that the car had it's timing belt replaced at 112k, so I should be alright for a while and the oil and plug wires are new too. I had a mechanic friend pull the plugs and do a compression test. He said the plugs are in great shape, no filth or anything like that. Compression went like this: #1: 150 lbs. #2: 100 lbs. #3: 145 lbs #4: 120 lbs. Is there much I can do for poor old #2? The exhaust is clean, no smoke. Went for a long drive in the country just to drive it. I sure love my new car! So, first thing, no error codes from the diagnostic connector. All hoses and vacuum lines *look* okay, but you would think a bad line would cause it to not run well, but should not be this bad, but I did have this happen once in my old Audi. Try again just in case, nope...no fuel. Hmm... It's cranking fine, should be getting air, that leaves timing, spark, or fuel. Since it momentarily ran at high rpms, I am thinking it's capable of delivering spark. That leaves timing or fuel. Disregard timing as that is the more complicated solution, I will focus on fuel. Maybe a fuel sensor, or perhaps the fuel filter hit the bottom of the tank sediment (again I problem I ran into once before on my Audi). Could also pull the plugs and check them, maybe take a look at the distributor cap... But first, a light bulb goes on....the front of my car is on a business driveway. It is sloping down about 10 degrees. I wonder if the fuel pick up is impacted. I go and get another gallon of gas and add it. Go to start it and it cranks....then starts...runs fine. Ack...the simple things. In my panic, I missed this. I had put in 1 gallon of gas, but it wasn't enough on this slope. I am going to have to quit running so close to empty (I always autocross on fumes...I am fastest with almost no gas in the car). Thanks to Byron Johnson and Brad Bedell for responding to the panic in my posts. 8) I am still a *little* concerned there is more to this story, but for now, I will consider it solved. Why it sat there for 60 seconds sounding like it was going to blow? I have no clue. I knew I didn't want to shift it into gear like that (I did own an Audi). 8) Randy Chase '91 MR2 NA ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 10:08:25 +0100 From: Mark Nias Subject: MR2: Polishing Engine Parts Hi everyone... i've just started to polish some of my engine parts, and was wondering if anyone else out there has done (or is doing) the same thing. i need to know which parts are relitivaly easy to remove that can be polished, so far i've done the intake tube to the throttle body and the engine lid catch. Kenneth, Since you mentioned you got "an armful of oil" on yourself, it goes to reason that you spilled a ton onto the exhaust system. It will eventually all burn off, but you can also get in there (when it is cool) and clean it up better with Simple Green or some other such degreaser. When I bought my first MR2 in December 1985, I let the service department at the dealer change the oil. I imagine they give this type of job to the least experienced mechanic there. Anyway, the amount he spilled on the exhaust manifold was so much that about a half mile away from the dealer, another motorist shouted to me that my car was on fire! I've been doing it myself since then, and doing a much neater job than the dealership did, too. - ----- Joe Pearlstein '91 Crimson Red MKII, Past owner of '86 Super Red MKI ***** 1st Place, 1998 Reading Poker Rally :) ***** IMOC # 2NA000004 Philadelphia, PA mailto:nu3y@critpath.org ICQ# 3480202 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1998 07:03:03 -0400 From: bagdon@rust.net (S and K Bagdon) Subject: Re: MR2 swapsies Sure would like to see these pictures myself, the only time I've heard this done was on a full tube-frame race car.
