I don't know what insurance companies you deal with or if your lying about your driving records but WOW! I'm 21, have never hit anyone but have been hit once and written 10 or so speeding tickets. Only 0 of which are on my record, had a great family lawyer. But my insurance dropped from $900/year to $850/year when i sold my 88CRX si and bought my 91 MR2 N/a. It is crimson red and i don't even have abs. I also upgraded my insurace to cover collision on my 2 and for $17/year I get rental coverage up to $20/day. Tell ya what, call AllState. The brakes were fine at first, but after 5sec's or so the pedal was to the floor and the brakes wouldn't stop the car any better! I don't have a leak, and the brakes were bled a little while back. When the car is idle I can depress the brakes, and if I keep the pressure on they will end up at the floor in 8-10sec! I haven't noticed this problem before, I don't usually go from 80-0mph that fast. I've got fairly new rotors/pads(< 5K on them). First I'm going to replace the brake fluid(any suggestions?). Then, I'm thinking of better brake lines or 93+ brakes. Maybe I need them to account for the 215(F)'s and 235(R)'s??? I haven't tried locking up the brakes with the new wheels/tires, maybe they just can't do it! Anybody have these problems? thx, Ave- 91T ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Sep 1998 02:01:33 EDT From: JDeRyke@aol.com Subject: Re: MR2 MKII-wheel question Regardless of what size wheels you wind up with, check the outside diameter of the tire you expect to use for clearance. As a rule of thumb, the larger the wheel, the lower the tire profile you are forced to use to clear the spring seat on the strut, and the worse the ride will become (since you are replacing rubber with aluminum in the tire/wheel combo). IMHO, the only rationale for 16 or 17" wheels is for clearance for larger diameter brake rotors OR strictly for appearance. There is no handling advantage/disadvantage for running a split wheel-size car (16 & 17") but you may have problems finding a shop that will sell only 2 wheels of a set. Steel braided brake lines will prevent any bulging in the lines. So, you will more likely feel a difference with steel braided lines when you replace an older brake line compared to a newer brake line. andy 91 MR2T ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Sep 1997 17:00:48 -0500 From: toyotamr2@juno.com (Joe Sweet) Subject: MR2 Help ASAP Well i feel like an idiot, i went back out, realigned everything, got the same problem, double checked the wires, and found that i put the coil wire where the 1st cylinder went and the 1 where the coil went.. My question (rhetorical as it may be) is - why does the alarm work off a "key in the ignition" switch (apparently the same one that won't let you lock the door with the key in the ignition) but the headlamp auto off works off of "ignition power"????? The solution was pretty easy...don't rely on the auto off feature if you like your car to start later. The only alternative I can think of is to wait for the car to turn off, then open the door (lights go out), but would the alarm think someone is breaking in? One thing you could do is have the HKS timer activate a relay to ground the door switch (timer turns off, door switch is grounded, door appears open to the car, so the auto off headlight go out), but again the question is what would that do to the alarm... You should count yourselves lucky. I used to have a Nissan Silvia Turbo with a turbo timer. Cool. However you could not physically remove the key from the ignition while the engine was running!
