If you have a Honda (not sure which model, but I know this applied to my old Integra), you can indeed put the piston up into the valves. On my Lotus, the pistons will happily crash into your valves. These are interference engines. You don't want to mess with them on the belt, which is why the Esprit will be getting a new belt within the next 3K miles whether I think it needs it or not (25K change intervals..yikes). The MR2s all have non interference engines. If the belt breaks, the car dies. End of story. You can crank and crank....but you'll never get it started. I received a flyer from my Subaru dealer advertsing somethng called an "EnviroLution Engine Life-Guard System." Basically, they drain the engine oil, and then "a specially blended heated solution is injected into the engine under pulsating pressure through the oil filter port. The EnviroLution detergent flows through the engine, dissolving and power-flushing the sludge and other contaminates down to the oil pan. Here the dissolved sludge and contaminates are vacuum extracted out of the engine." Anybody tried this? Your point is well taken. My comment earlier was in response to whether or not the rare tax payer dollar is better spent catching speeders or if law enforcement officers should be policing each and every parking lot preventing the theft of somebodies' parking lights. Many of us would prefer the latter, but come on, this is the real world. Reference was made earlier as to catching speeders as a revenue source for the law makers. True. It is revenue. But, when it comes down to "the parking lot or the highway", my personal opinion is that there is greater chance of personal injury amongst moving traffic versus somebody out to steal hubcaps. It's really ironic that it wasn't even 1 day after Pete's original posting (he said speeding doesn't kill) , we read about Jeff Fazzio's misfortune. I feel bad he ruined a beautiful car, but hopefully it's a lesson we ALL can learn from. There IS a reason speed limits need to be obeyed. Fred Dimalanta '86na Renton, WA >>>>>>>> From: "Dave C" Subject: MR2 Re: Speeders can kill people I beg to differ here - someone driving a stolen car has bugger-all respect for the car, the people around them or themselves. What happened to Jeff really sucks, speed totalled the car but it had nothing to do with him making the move other than to keep momentum. Had he slowed down or stopped (which by accounts of the story there was time to do) then it would have been avoided. Had he slowly passed the truck the truck could well have smacked him on the side.. who knows?! Speed will definately instantly render a car a total loss in a bad accident. What I would LIKE to see more of is law enforcement looking for people not only speeding, but bumper tailing / weaving in traffic / running red / yellow lights, excessive speeds in residential areas and ANY speeding in a school or park zone. I believe many people would agree with this, and be able to sympathize with law enforcement in general if these factors were focused on more than a cop positioned behind a bridge at 10pm. Or worse yet a big van with a camera attached on the side of the road.
