Friend/ collegue of mine checked out this 94 turbo on Friday he had seen advertised in the classiefieds for $ 6 K !!! Once he arrived at the owners residence he was stunned by what appeared to be a near flawless 2, perfect interior and not a scratch on it. The surprise came when he turned the key, and the engine fired up...(if you could call it that) Needless to say the engine was shot. He mentioned to have seen metal shavings and water in the oil, after the car had died off and he checked the fluids... Turns out that the lady selling it was recently divorced and the 2 belonged to her husband who seemingly did not want to give it up, and decided to destroy it... the car has 32k miles on it. I am checking the car out tomorrow to see if it's any good for parts, and to see if the owner will go down in price some... if anyone is interested in parts, let me know. I figure the transmission, interior and exterior is still in great condition. I will check how the turbo is doing... regards chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 06 Feb 1999 22:06:02 -0500 From: christian rohde Subject: MR2 new mr2 website hello, after having received so much help from this mailing list I have decided to publish a couple of photos of my 2 I purchased a couple of weeks ago. If this car is only $5K and it's as nice as you said, you could put a $6K crate engine from Toyota in it and still be about $10K ahead of the power curve. How should I clean this stuff out or should I just leave it alone. Car seems to be running fine but the wires/plugs are 93,500 miles old. I also have a problem with my hood latch. It doesn't pop the hood up far enuf so I have to pop up the headlights to open it. I oiled the latch mechanism, adjusted the black rubber stopers and it still didn't help. The mechanism has no rust/corrosion on it. I'm thinking that its a bad/worn cable or even could be a bad spring? Here's one place you can save money on your SC. Many on the list will disagree, and tell you to get a $40 mast from Toyota or to get the entire thing from Toyota. Generally it's best to stick with Toyota parts for electrical and mechanical parts. But this is an exception. I purchased a generic power antenna from AutoZone over two years ago. The exact unit is a Metra PW12/PW12B. They stocked two different units. One is a basic unit with a few trim pieces ($30) and the other was the deluxe with lots of trim pieces ($40). I bought the deluxe and am glad of it. Between the trim pieces in he deluxe kit and the peices that came on the car I was able to fashion a very factory looking install. The actual unit bolted almost perfectly into the factory mounting holes. It has worked flawlessly since I put it in over two years ago BTW, go to the MR2 SC Registry and fill out the entry form..... I've just finished installing and programming an Autronic engine management system on the Celica GT-Four Group A rally car, and the car now runs 28 psi of boost, on a completely stock igntion. The only thing different is the plugs (Champion C57C Racing Plugs). This car suffers no misfires at all. So if that car and the Beast are running on the stock ignition system at 24 and 28 psi without problems, then why should anyone running about 16 psi need a CD system? IMHO opinion save your money on the ignition systems, and if you want to upgrade anything in the ignition, the only things worth upgrading are the wires, cap (Marc Summers copper contact cap is a great idea), and the plugs. - -- Dennis. 1990 Toyota Celica GT-Four http://extra.newsguy.com/~gtfour Ace123JIM@aol.com wrote: > > Group, > As many of you know I am running a T04E-50 in the Beast. Instead of the rain flowing down your window and making it hard to see it beads up and slids up as air flows around the car. Usually isn't effective unless going at least 40 mph.... great for highway driving. And even if you stil ldecide to use the wipers it will help anyway, so I'd get it.
