Falco, the effect of the 15mm spacers on top speed is negotiable. You must have caught a bad day (too hot/humid conditions). Have you checked your tire pressure too? Is your filter clogged? Of course it also could be that something in your engine setup is out of spec (compared to last time you tried your high speed out). Don't mind... give it another try. Silo - ---- From: Falco Zeidler Hi all, as some of you know I have 95 euro n/a MR2. With stock tyres/rims it runs nearly 240 km/h on a flat straight. Nearly the same with my new 215/40 -17 front and 235/40 -17 back on 8*17 (front and back). Now I have 15mm wheel spacer on each side only in back and I noticed that the MR2 only goes 220 km/h now. So what causes this? Is it cause the tyre in back stand more outside and wind goes more on it? Any ideas? What the best 17" tyre for the MR2 (diameter) ? thanks Falco - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Falco Zeidler,Germany , falco@topmail.de , ICQ:7809963, http://welcome.to/MR2 ,yellow `95 euro MR2 n/a 175hp T-Bar, Member of : IMOC,Interessengemeinschaft MR2 ,MR2 Club Netherlands, - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jun 1999 08:05:12 EDT From: MICHAELMR2@aol.com Subject: mr2 DC DRAG DAY update 6-17-99 Alrighty, we are getting down to the wire and I must say I am impressed with the response I have gotten from this event. While I agree with you that a good tape adapter/head combo is better then a FM modulator, I have to disagree about the frequency reduction. Both FM and Cassette will drop to about -3db at 16Khz. But the main difference is that the FM stats are really only valid if you're standing right next to the transmitter and the FM station isn't overmodulating (which most rock stations do, because it gives more bass emphasis). As you get further from the transmitter the specs go to hell. Let alone that beat frequencies that get set up in FM modulators. Or constantly having to switch FM transmitting frequencies because the frequency you picked before now has a station on it (especially when you're travelling). But what I really broke in to say was that since an Octave of music represents a doubling of frequency, the 4Khz you've lost at the top end only represents 2/5s of one octave. That really doesn't represent much music at all, let alone the fact that not much is played in that octave to begin with. I got a response from Byron about the accuracy of the meter too. I checked the lead resistance which was .6, so subtracting that from the 1.9 I got equals 1.3, still out but not far. Then if the accuracy of the meter is plus or minus .6 it IS in spec. This may not be it. I'm thinking I should look at the throttle body again. I did the test in the book where you disconnect one of the vacuum hoses from the top and if there is vacuum it should be operation properly and it was fine but it may be less obvious than that. It could be either the A/C or the Alternator belt. Both are pretty easy to change. I used to have a horrible sqeaking problem. To change the alt belt you have to get at both the top and bottom of your car, the AC you can do all from the top. My alternator belt locking bolt was completely missing, so the belt had a slight bit of slack in it that when cold would make horrible noises. The tightened pivot bolt was the only thing keeping my alternator from swinging completely forward and dropping the belt. Not good. Anyway, new belts are around 20-25 with a good imoc discount, and installing both new ones take about 1.5-2.5 hours. I picked up a belt tension gauge for, ummm, I think it was 15$, just to make sure I had the tension right. I seem to remember that the japanese spec motor uses a different ECU than the US version. Is this the case? I think it had something to do with the fuel injection (jap=DFI?). And, does this ECU use different wiring harnesses than the US version???? The guy I am getting my 3SGTE from is having a jap spec swapped in by Toysport.
