For some unknown reason, standard H&R springs tend to give the visual perception of the rear end of the car being lower than the front end. Almost like someone put a few peices of luggage in the trunk of your car. Now as for measurements, I could not tell anyone what height difference there is between the standard H&R's and the Silo Specials. I can tell you this, though I have the standard 14" rims/tires for the MKII and my car dropped 1" all the way around. My car (currently) does not look like the rear is lower than the front. You CAN tell a difference between installed Silo H&R springs and standard H&R springs. I know this because another list member local to me has the standard H&Rs with 14" rims. Silo did not pay me to say this, either. - -Aaron ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Aug 1999 11:42:48 -0600 From: Matt Jenkins Subject: Re: mr2 gurgling - Even V6 Toy 4X4 Marc, For what it's worth...my V6 Toyota 4X4 does the same thing. Just thought I would throw this out there... If you were all getting your normal everyday gas mileage, and all of a sudden, you started getting 40% LESS, what would you attribute this too? Are there things you can look for? What are some common things that would contribute to bad gas mileage? I've also experienced a loss in power recently. Could it be the car is just running too rich? Would intake leak cause this, and if so, is it safe to have the motor running and spray started fluid around to see if the motor rev's up from taking in the starter fluid? Are there specific areas I should check for? Any suggestions would be appreciated. :) - -- Thanks, Matt Jenkins '91MR2T ARC/NCS Tel : 970-898-0532 3404 E. Harmony Road Telnet : 898-0532 Ft. I'm one of the others with the "hiss" - I first noticed it on my '91T about 2 years ago (I've owned the car for 3). I couldn't ever really figure out where it came from, though I was all over the TB and intake manifold with a stethescope. It was somewhere around the intake manifold. Oddly, it went away for a while, and then came back last year. I did a head gasket job this winter and figured it would surely be gone for good after that, all gaskets/hoses replaced, etc. It was there for about 2 months after finished though, and it went away last month, who knows why. Disturbing, and worth a look, but don't be surprised if you can find the reason. The best thing is to buy a stethescope and start poking around while the engine is running. A word of caution though, as some of those engine parts get pretty hot! Well if any of you remember I had bent a sparkplug and never found the cause. I have a bit of oil consumption and the oil gets dirty quickly. I'm thinking a blown headgasket could do this, not to mention I have a ticking noise on cold-startups that goes away when the car is warm. So would a leakdown test diffentiate between leaky rings or a blwn HG? I'm assuming of course that there's a small hole to one of the oil passages..that it could sucked the oil in and foul the plug (as it gets fouled slightly) .. Would it cause more than normal crankcase pressures? I think this is the case as I'm getting oil blwon through the PCV breather into the turbo (I know that happens on some turbos anyways) but I find there's more pressure out of the oil filler cap than on my coworkers Camry..Thoughts? Vacuum leaks can certainly cause your symptoms. But I wouldn't start spraying starter fluid around. Ether is explosive. Maybe try WD-40. Some folks use oil or water and watch for it getting sucked in to places where it shouldn't. Make sure the timing didn't shift. Pull the spark plugs and look at them. Same with plug wires and distributor cap and rotor. However ... think of the last thing you did under the hood. Then start looking for wires or vacuum lines that got knocked loose. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Aug 1999 14:26:21 -0500 From: dkchal@datasync.com (Donald K Chalfant) Subject: Re: mr2 wastegate actuator Your dealer is a **rd.
