They will often unstick cylinders, but often the frozen portion is the latch. I have a little lock heater gizmo that looks like a wide metal toothpick attched to a couple of batteries that I carry in the winter to unfreeze the cylinders of my Audi. It is a lot less messy than alcohol and you can keep it on your key ring. - -Renni ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Mar 1998 11:01:12 -0600 From: dkchal@datasync.com (Donald K. I used it in the first MR2 Willows Track event and a couple of Nor Cal rallies with no trouble, and the results are pretty good. I do wish I had a macrozoom feature though so that I can see myself steer/shift a bit more. Vibration was insignificant and I did not have to use any padding to get the right angle. Seems the MKI center storage area was designed to have a camcorder perched there! I use a NEC TurboExpress to remotely monitor the image and sound (my girlfriend has a I/R remote to control record/zoom). For those who do not know what it is, the TurboExpress is a portable color video game system which doubles as a portable TV wit A/V jacks. In most cases(super light weight wheels excluded), is it true that the weight gained with going to larger wheels is greater than the loss of weight due to less rubber on the wheel? And, is it true that with going to a larger wheel increases the rotational momentum, of the pair( wheel+tire)? It just seems like a 205/60/14 has an awful lot of weight in rubber, compared to say an EQUALLY WIDE 17" wheel/tire combo. It's not fair to say the 17's are definitely heavier, without taking into account that they are usually wider than the 14's/15's they are replacing. Who has upgraded to 17's while keeping EXACT the same wheel/tire width? I'd be curious to see what the weight difference is, AND what the rotational momentum difference is, the latter being the most important(IMHO). ave- (need $$$+ for 17's or 16's) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Mar 1998 18:39:54 -0500 From: "Robert Hastings" Subject: MR2 MK2 ON SPEEDVISION Has anyone ever watched Australian touring cars on Speedvision. So anyone know the weight of the stock setup on a '93+? Wheel and or tires? >> I don't know the formula (I did once, but I've forgotten most of the physics I learned in college). However, it's realatively easy to visualize how rotating mass has more of an impact than stationary mass. Your wheels & tires become a gyroscopes when they are spinning, good ones at that, since most of the weight is concentrated at the outer edge. Try changing the orientation of a gyroscope. You'll feel a distinct resistance. Now, take an equivalent weighted object and change it's orientation - no resistance at all (other than that of gravity and/or friction). So, you feel the effect of extra rotating mass upon any form of acceleration - which in our cars translates to acceleration, braking, and turning. Hope that helps.
