Hi Joe Did you get any advice on this? I've been a bit bothered about the top end performance of my 2 recently - in 3rd it pulls nicely up to 6500 revs, then (even on WOT) it shows little inclination to go beyond 6500. The exhaust/engine sound goes from a howl at 6400 to vitually silent at 6600 (eerie). If I leave it on WOT then the tacho needle bobs about a bit and gradually creeps toward 7000, then at 7000 - Bam! it lets out a sudden whine and the revs fall back sharply to about 5000. IMO this can't be anything but a rev limiter - but I wouldn't expect it to cut in 500 rpm before the red line, nor would I expect the 'dead region' between 6500 and 7000. Comments anybody? - do other MK1 drivers have this, or can you pull cleanly right up to the red line (in 3rd)? > Did I experience the rev limiter everyone talked about a month or so ago? True, if the cover was sealed with no vents. I was thinking more along the lines of an identical engine cover like on our stock MKIIs but made of plexi. This would have NO different effect on performance or cooling. I haven't seen the piece from Blitz or Hyperrev. By the way, The F-40/50 has large vents in the plexiglass much like what we have on the MKIIs. Tre' Ridings ('91 Turbo~Yearning for more power) Yes, it would be nice, but also the key to MR2's engine staying cool is the notch back glass. Right at the rear window is an area of low pressure at speeds. this low pressure draws air through the rear vents from the engine bay. by putting a plexiglass cover on there, you eliminate this low presure area, and not only would the engine bay heat soak, but it would reduce if not eliminate the airflow through the side vents to the intercooler and intake. now if you are referring to the MR2s in the Hyperrev catalog, look at them closely and they have small exit vents. now while these might work on a one- off car designed to go 300 km/h, they would not work well in a car that spends 95% of it's life below 65 MPH. Don't feel bad, most are off at least a bit, yours is actually about average. (The BGB spec does require it to read high, not low, in the upper RPM ranges though.) The rev limiter is hitting at 7500RPM, your 'dead region' is from 7000 to 7500. Does this make a little more sense? As for why your engine noise goes away... I have nooooo idea. Anyone? I've been lurking on this the last few days, and figure I should pipe up with something. So far, quite a few people have said 'I was speeding, but I still don't believe I should pay'. So, do you lead the rest of your lives this way? You don't believe in taxes, so you don't pay the IRS? Interesting parrellel, except the IRS will sell your house and garnish your paycheck. Is this the society we live in now? The rules 'apply to everyone but me'? If you don't like the rules, change them (elective, legislative, regulatory, whatever). Otherwise, we live in an anarchy.
