I used it in California to win the 1990 class B Southern Pacific division Solo II championship. When I came back to South Africa I could not bear to sell the car so I brought it back with me. There are only 2 other known MR2s in South Africa both non-supercharged. I really battle with spares for it out here. It has done 100 000 miles already and I still use it for an everyday street car and race it on weekends. Any information about how many of the supercharged models were produced would be appreciated. I have been told that there were only 4000 made worldwide but this has never been proved. I know they were only ever sold in Japan and the USA. Europe never had the Super model.

That car has been more faithful and dependable than man's best friend. In all that time, (even in our Canadian winters) did that car not start for me or perform. I recommend this car above any other.

It now has over 212,000 km (or 130,000 miles for my American friends), and only problems I have had was a whole in the exhaust manifold and had to replace all the belts. My baby has a supercharger on it, the last year Toyota used them, and boy talk about a moving experience. I would say the supercharger is as good or better than the Turbo Chargers out there. Since I purchased the car not a month goes by where someone seriouly offerers to purchase my baby. My standard line is NOT FOR SALE. Maybe after I break 300,000 km I'll think about it. You have to be an OWNER to understand. See you all in my rear view mirror. Ted

And guess what? Just today (an hour back), I finalized a deal for a red turbo 1991.

Please welcome me to the club...any advice from you pros out there regarding taking care, driving etc etc would be welcome. Do remember, I know nothing about engines and repair, so I will be satisfied with which oil is the best, which wheels make it fly and stuff.

Fri Mar 1 21:15:54 1996 Jim Felbab Very nice site. I own a 91 MR2 (red) that is in showroom condition. I love it to death. I just replaced the timing belt (58,000 mi) and think I will keep it another 5 years. Need tires often but that is common with sports cars. I may change from the Bridgestones tho, they don't seem to stay round toward the end of their life. I drive it through the winters here in Wisconsin and put Perelli Winter 190's on it several winters ago. Very good on snow & ice. Really saddened by Toy's decision to drop it. Got pricey in the later years. Keep up the fine site. Jim

Fri Mar 29 21:02:00 1996 George Goetz Red 1985 with 176k miles driven all year through New York winters. This car still has the original clutch, the tranny's a bit noisey though and 4th gear is shot. Third to fifth is close enough. I plan on driving it another year and then start looking for an 88-89 MkI, supercharged if possible. I drive the daylights out of this car and I only paid $4000 for it 100,000 miles ago.
