I've owned Fiat X 1/9s (too slow!), a 1987 CRX Si (torque steer and fragility!), 1988 Merkur XR4Ti (body roll and turbo lag)and a 1984 Mustang SVO (lousy build-quality, lag and ugly engine note)- but I still have my 1985 MR2 - with over 153,000 miles! The best sports car
I've ever owned. Bulletproof. Extremely tossable and predictable. Nice mid-range punch. Great exhaust note (esp. after 4,000rpm)!

Had an 87 NA, now a 93 Turbo. Looking into performance ups. HKS-VBC, FCD, P-Flow and exhaust. What's the max boost on a stock 3SGTE? Feedback welcome. Great car and page.

I owned an 87 and an 86 mr2, unloaded. I still have the 86, which had an oil leak while on the highway (loose pan gasket?) and lost all compression and then seized. Now I am looking at rebuilding this car, which I have loved for a while now. I would like to get a supercharged motor in this baby with an enhanced suspension, etc. any suggestions or caveats would be appreciated. Thanks!

You got taste. MR2 is the most amazing car on the planet and doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Do you know anyone near Toronto, Ontario who's got a 1993 yellow Mr2 who's willing to sell. Me and a lot of people I know would be very interested!!!

Geoff, I am brand new to internet. The first thing i used a search engine for was "Toyota MR2". I guess you now know where my heart is! The first Engine couldn't get through to you. Infoseek works OK though. I hope you feel proud of presentation and content of your directory. It is truely remarkable. Keep up the good work. I have left some mindless ramblings on the "who's who page".
Best Regards

I just bought 92 MR2 recently because my 94 Honda Del Sol got stolen twice in half year. My impression of MR2 is that this car is so fast! And it's fun to drive. Thanx for the information! It really helped me a lot. I couldn't find article about TRD. If you guys could put this company's stuff in the future, then it will help me alot because I like performance cars and I already have some modification to my car. Thanx

I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING A 1985 MR2, AND WILL SOON BE BUYING MY FATHERS 1991 TURBO MR2!!
I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS! ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THE ENGINE OF THE 1985 IS A HORSE, AS
NFL COMMENTATOR KEITH JACKSON WOULD SAY. (PROBABLY SPELLED HAUSE) IT HAS RUN UNFAILINGLY.
I HOPE TO HAVE MANY MORE YEARS OF DRIVING PLEASURE FROM THIS TOYOTA PRODUCT!-

"A Ferrari with a Toyota emblem" is how Car and Driver once put it. Although I don't own one, I still love them. They make my heart go pitter-patter. I am interested, so if anyone wants to part with their beautiful car, or knows someone else who might want to, please e-mail me. Any year (prefferably '89 and up) will be in good hands. One more message...to Toyota, BRING MR. 2 BACK!

I bought my white 85 MR2 last fall with 107K miles. I've driven it 50 miles a day, back and forth to work. With lite foot, have managed as much as 41.4 MPG @ 70 MPH. Mister 2 is the best handling production car I've owned yet. I'm convinced that Lotus and Toyota traded some good ideas when they brainstormed the idea that became the MR2, and we all came out the winners! Great site, Im sure to return again.

Just got my 88 Mr2 S/C back from the body shop after many delays.
I had forgotten how fast this car was (driving a sentra for two months will do that to you). The only problem is they didn't attach the exhaust properly it seems and it sounds like an angry insect of some sort. Still smiling though...later

I have fallen in love with the MR2....I dont currently own one now but I would have in my garage. I just have to save up a little to afford one
I just have a few questions for y'all. Give me an overall rating of the 92T,93T. I know alittle but not alot. I would love to get one.
I currently drive a 1988 Nissan200SX-SEV6. It is nice right now but would like something a little newer. Ya know? I have some cars narrowed down
I like the Acura Integra but it is FWD(yuck). But I think the MR2 is one of the sweetest Jap cars that were made.
My car is RWD and I think anycar that is in my garage has to have RWD!
What do you think the price of the 93T will be in 3 years. I know that sounds like a long time but my current car has tons of mile still to be out on it.
It is a great car for now but is too damn square. Well that's all folk!
or in Spanish= Colorin Colorado este acuenta se ha acubado(thats all folks) =)

However, as most owners know, it lacks power. I'm beginning to research

Please Help!! My 91 MR2 turbo has an erratic miss when you stand on the gas. It only seems to do it when the turbo is spooling up but not at full boost. It acts just like it did a few months ago when the plug wires were bad. I've since replaced the cap, rotor button, and several sets of plugs. I took it to the local Toyota dealer and they told me it was the plugs, so I replaced them again, and that didn't solve the problem. The dealer wouldn't put it on the analyzer, or go any further than the spark plugs. I've also noticeed some oil seepage around the intercooler plumbing, between the turbo and the intercooler. It's very slight and the car doesn't seem to use any oil or smoke at all. Please E-mail me with any ideas or suggestions.

I think that this is a great information network on the MR2. However I own an '87 Supra N/A, which is completely stock with absolutely no rust. Rare find for an '87. I bought it two yrs ago with 87,000Kms, it now has 176,000kms, all major services were done at the dealer. Everything on this car works prefectly, and it its a joy to drive as an everyday car. I'd really like to get more info on Supra 'clubs' or owners associations in the US or Canada. Please reply to my e-mail address or my residential address: 94, Cowan Blvd., Cambridge, Ontario. Canada. IMPORTANT! I'm Seeking information concerning the 1988 and 1989 4AGZE production. Specifically, I need authoritative docummentable information concerning the actual number of Supercharged MR-2's (MKIs's) manufactured worldwide, and how many were imported in 1988 and 1989. This data is not readily available through any channel I've previously persued through Toyota. In fact, they're pretty sensitive about these kinds of questioned; Quiche' eaters, I suppose.

Greetings Fellow MR2 owners! I just wanted to drop a line and touch base with others out there who share the same passion for their MR2s as I do.
I have an 85 MR2 with 250,000kms on the clock. I recently blew the head gasket, and rather than replace the gasket, I replaced the whole engine! In Japan, the 4A-GE
powerplant is still in production, although it is calibrated differently (more power) so I got one from a 93 Celica shipped over and installed. My original 4A-GE had 112hp and
9.2:1 compression, and the new one has 10:1 compression, which translates into approx. 150hp @ 7100rpm; quite an improvement, no turbo, no supercharger.
Anyway, if you'd like to know more, or tell me about your MR2, please feel free to drop me line!
Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas! -and remember: life begins at 6000 RPM!

I used to own an 86' Toyota MR2. It was my first car (for I am only 18 years old). The summer after my senior year in H.S., "Hobbes" was stolen from my front yard. My MR2 was silver with black/silver interior. I had bought a leather gearshift, boot, new floor mats... everything. It was my baby and my love.
I was stunned and greatly upset (I even cried) when my Hobbes was stolen. Being an 18 year old male, I sought individuality in everything I did and who I was, my MR2 was a link to that. So rare, so beautiful. I was constantly asked "what kind of car is that?"... I replied proudly "my little MR2".
I would wash it, take care of it, and... well, race it :).
MR2's are my favorite cars, and I miss mine dearly. It was reliable, fast (beat every CRX and Civic I ever raced!) and most of all, a Toyota. I have a new loyalty to Toyota, and plan to buy another as soon as I can.
Unfortunately, I'm a struggling college student, so that might be a while, but it will happen. This is a wonderful car and a great page you folks have here. I'm glad there are others that appreciate the little Mister 2 as much as I.
Thank you Toyota, thank you Hobbes.
Great web sight guys, gotta get those Japanese only txt. files fixed, but other than that; great!
Thanks for the opportunity to tell you about my love, the Toyota MR2... looking forward to a US revival.
Seeya, and good luck!

I owned an 85 Mr2 and it was a fun car . Traded it for a 74 260 Z that was about 60% restored and have since finished the job for the most part . Although the Z is far from stock , has loads of power and is very fast , the Mr2 was much more fun to drive . I look forward to the chance to own ( and this time modify ) another .

I love my '91 MR2 but can't find any repair manuals on it which makes working on it for those non-technical people an impossible task. Anybody have any ideas drop me a reply.

I previously owned an '85 classic, white w/ a white painted rear fin. Basically stock as a rock! What a fun car ; ^) The most ironic thing was that the girl that I dated at the time had the exact same year mr. 2 with the painted fin that I did. TOTALLY by coincedence!!

Hi! I have an interesting story to share. I have a 91 Black MR2 Turbo that I purchased new off the showroom floor. What a car. Every option imaginable except the Toyota factory alarm. Early this year the car started running terrible. Turned out, after a long fight, the car had been run without oil at a dealership during a service checkup. How could this be? A Toyota dealership on top of that. I was not happy to say the least, but I decided there was not much I could do. It took me 4 months to rebuild the car, but now it runs great. Faster than ever.
Current configuration:
15" ROH ZR5 wheels with Nitto NT-450 tires, 205/50 front, 225/50 back
TRD Short Shifter
HKS Exhaust
K & N Filtercharger
Greddy Turbo Timer
Custom made clutch from MR2 Performance in Colorado
Turbo rebuilt by Turbo City in CA
Beru Silverstone Spark plugs
Redline Water Wetter
Redline 5w-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
Redline MT-90 Tansaxle Lubricant
Complete motor overhall with new bearings, rings, crank
I would like to here your stories, good and bad. I circulate a newsletter here in Texas and we always are looking for information to help us make better choices. Thanks.

I had the chance to drive my mr2 in the snow for the first time last week, and it held up pretty good. I watched as a Chevy S-10 pickup in front of me slowed until it was sliding backwards and then sideways on a modertly steep hill, I drove right around it, without so much as a slip! Time and time again a great car! Thanks toyota, and Lotus.

You have quite a selections here but my major disappointment was that prices of the items were not available. I guess most of the companies does not like to advertise the price on line so that we can compare prices. Then what's the use of internet? I didn't find much help here.

I am having a problem with my 1988 MR2. I live in Illinous were it gets cold, and I can't get much heat when the ambent tempature is below 30 deg. I have changed the thermostat and bleed the system but it doesn't seem to help. I get heat at speeds below 40 mph, but after that the faster I go the less heat I have. The tempature gauge will fall below the scale on the gauge, and my fuel milage is suffering. If you can help I would appriciate it.

I am having a problem with my MR2 and I wondered if you had any info or suggestions to help me. Every time the temperature gets below freezing, my throttle cable won't move freely and seems to be froze but then when parked in a gararge it thaws out. I would appreciate any info on how to fix this problem or if you have a newsgroup or someone else I can talk to that would do also. By the way, this is an excellent web site more info here than anywhere else.
Thanks,

THIS IS MY THIRD MR2 I HAVE OWNED SINCE 1989. I STILL HAVE MY 89 MARK
1 WHICH I USE AS A SECOND CAR. I PREVIOUSLY HAD A MARK 2 90 MR2 IN 117 KW
FORM. THEN LATE THIS YEAR, I CHANGED IT TO A 94 MR2 "BATHURST" WITH
THE MORE POWERFUL 129 KW ENGINE. THIS ONE HAS TONS MRE GO THAN THE 117 KW
MODEL WHICH I THOUGHT WAS QUITE PEPPY. ALL THREE MR2s HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY
RELIABLE AND ARE A THRILL DO DRIVE. I HAVE OWNED MANY OTHER SPORTS CARS
LIKE AN ALFA ROMEO GTV6(A REAL HEADACHE, ALWAYS BREAKING DOWN) TRIUMPH TR6(ANOTHER HEADACHE),
86 TOYOTA CELICA SX, 85 TOYOTA SPRINTER AND THE FIRST GENERATION HONDA PRELUDE
BUT NONE OF THEM ARE AS FUN TO DRIVE OR TURNS HEADS LIKE THE MR2.
I CAN'T THINK OF ANY OTHER CAR I WOULD LIKE TO OWN, NOT EVEN A MAZDA
RX-7. AN M3, PORSCHE 911 S4 OR A FERRARI F355 WOULD BE TOPS THOUGH BUT
COST A WHOLE LOT MORE.

Bought a MR2-87 about three weeks ago on the insistence of my 15year old son. I must admit that I have enjoyed the car much more than what I had expected, and though it will be owned by my son pretty soon, I am already thinking about getting one all for myself.

THIS IS MYT FORTH MR2 I HAVE OWNED, A 95 MR2 GT TURBO. I STILL HAVE MY
89 MARK 1 MR2 SUPERCHARGED 4A-GZE MODEL WHICH I USE A SECOND CAR. PRIOR
TO THAT, I HAVE HAD AN 87 N/A MARK 1 AND A 92 MARK 2 N/A. ALL OF MY MR2s
HAVE BEEN SUPER RELIABLE AND A GREAT PLEASURE TO OWN AND DRIVE. MY NEW
MR2 TURBO REALLY GOES LIKE HELL COMPARED TO MY OTHER MR2s. I HAVE RACED
AND BEATEN RX-7S, PRELUDES, CRXS, INTEGRAS, 200SX, 300ZX EVEN AN NSX!
I LOVE BOTH MY MR2 AND CAN'T THINK OF ANOTHER CAR I WOULD LIKE TO OWN,
NOT EVEN AN RX-7, NSX, 3000GT OR A 300ZX. A FERRARI F355 WOULD BE
UNREAL THOUGH........

I'm considering buying a used MR2 Turbo, preferably a "facelifted" 1992 model. I'm a car "nut" with a 1974 Lotus Seven series 4 which I've nearly finished rebuilding, and my wife and I use a 1990 Ford Laser GT-X 4WD 1.8i Turbo (117kW!!) as our everyday car. MR2s are a comparatively popular sportscar here in New Zealand, with at least as many having been imported as used cars from Japan (both countries drive on the left) as were originally sold new here. I'm just learning the details and subtlr distinctions between the years at this stage. The test drives are yet to come!

I just have to say that the MR2 is truely the best Toyota ever made.
I have owned 5 MR2's in the last 9 years, 3 Mark 1s a 87, 88 and 90
(One a privately imported supercharged model) and two Mark 2s a 92 and
my current 95 GT N/A model. I still have my supercharged model which
is midnight blue in colour is still a delight to drive and still beats
many new sports cars. My black MR2 GT is the top of the line model
here in Australia with premium Pioneer sound system. leather,
ABS and many more features. All my MR2s have benn extriemely
reliable with no breakdowns, I just follow the routine service, I wash
both my MR2s every weekend and I praise the dealer from whom I bought
my 4 MR2s from as they give first class service. An awesome sight.
Keep up the fine work.

I have a 91 turbo MR2 Toyota. It is red with black leather interior. It is and will always be my baby. I try to change the oil myself ever 2000 miles with mobil oil and fram filters. I have found that Bosch Platnuim plugs are excellent for the highest peak power you can get through a spark plug! Everyone be sure to change the timing chain at the recomended 70,000 miles. If you don't change the timing chain, it could ruin the valve train, therefore doing damage to your power plant, engine!! Be sure to change the fuel filter too! It has a very important job of delivering clean gas to your fuel injection. It should be changed about every 30,000 miles or less. They cost no more than 15 dollars at Auto-zone.

Help! This site is great, but I'm not in a good mood! Thieves broke into my car and ripped off my 5 day old Kenwood CD player. The sunroof is cracked and the plastic cover around the a/c/radio is destroyed! If anyone can help me find parts for this (1986 Black mark 1)I would be eternally grateful! Thanks in advance!
