just purchased my first MR2. found a 1986 with 40K miles. absolutely cherry. i hated to drive it home from miami to clearwater beach. found it after about 2 months of surfing the web. finally, just gave up after traveling to see so much junk. decided to pray about it. what a blessing !!! can anyone help me with loose plastic moulding around rear window / deck??? tried tightening screws but they will not go in any further. also, any quick performance tricks would be appreciated. thinking of adding a K&H air filter ?? please e mail

I have an 86 and am looking to move up to a 91-95. Are there any
weakness that I should know of. I've found a 91, T-top,non-turbo,a/c
82k that seems to have a little too much clutch pedal but it's clean
and the price seems right. I need some input. Thanks

I have a 1986 mk1 mr2. I have owned it for 5 years and I still have not run out of modifications to do. I have installed Koni sport shocks with TRD race springs. I also have Sus.Techniques sway bars front and rear. I also have custom metal bushings for the front strut bar along with TRD hard rubber race bushings all around. I have 1 degree of neg camber all around for that feeling of security. I know the MR2 is a great handling car stock, but you can't get enough of a good thing. There is a great dealer here in NJ, Sarizer motors, passaic park. Ask for gary, the owner, he actually races them, the whole shop does.

My buddy purchased a 1991 MR-2 Turbo with about 45K on it. This car was really cherry. I drove it once and I was hooked. Since purchased, he has installed chrome O.Z. Monte Carlo wheels and Sumitomo HTRZ tires. 15x7 with 205-50-15 up front and 16x8 with 225-45-16 in the rear. We also did the K&N filter thing and are now in search of an exhaust. I know none of you guys would dare part with your MR-2's, but if anyone has a 93 Turbo in black or yellow that they would like to get rid of, email mr2bmd@aol.com.

Since the inception in 1985, I've always loved the looks, feel and power of the MR2. But not until two years ago did I finally get mine. Well the first one at least. Of course being in my teens didn't make it easy, but once past the first it wasn't too tough. Where there's a will there's a way. I'm now the proud owner of not one, not two, but three MR2s. I had to get all spiffy, ya know. I have the original (almost first year) 1986. Champaign/black lthr. Everything on it is absolutely factory, except the stereo system. The factory tape deck started easting tapes, so I replaced it (no problem consider well over 7 inches depth behind it) with a Pioneer DEH-P825 CD plyr/ chgr control, replaced the dash speakers with Pioneer 4Ts, and put in some Pioneer "Truck boxes" behind the seat. However I still haven't gotten around to the $250 speaker rig below the driver's seat. (OUCH!)
The second is a 1989 SC model. (White/black) This one's been tinkered with here and there. A new exhaust, fllters, suspension, but nothin major (engine). But the third, a 1995 TTurbo (Black/Black), now that's my baby. Totally re-adjusted from the sunroof down, the thing's completely mod. You name it, it's been done (including the stereo) I was almost ready to put her into serious competition, but until someone's willing to replace it if I dent her (SPONSORS...HINT HINT) she's not goin' out if anyone else is on the traack. PERIOD!!
Thanks
Dave

I just bought my third MR2 88 supercharged. I also have an 86 both
red. My first was an 86 black I bought it new and sold it 3 years later. Then I bought a Ferrari 308gts and five 930 turbo Porsches.
The last one I kept and still have and will never sell. It's a RUF
930 about 550HP and about $234,000.00 top speed 230mph+
The only cars that impressed me and I have been collecting cars for 25
years are the ones I own now. And I love my both my MR2 as much if
not more than my RUF 930.

This is an impressive amount of information that you have compiled, keep it up!
I've always been a big fan of the MR2 and was very sad to see Toyota stop making them. However, I did see an artist rendering of a car supposedly seen testing, called an MRJ. I can only hope Toyota decides not only to build it, but to bring it to the USA as well, I'd like to have one.

Having placed an order for 2x New MR2 GT T-Bars & having had to wait initially for 1 week for the dealership (RRG Toyota - Salford Quays - Manchester) to call me back, then wait a further 1 week to arrange a test drive & then a further 2 weeks for a call back with a delivery date - and now after more than 15 telephone calls - all ignored - I find myself in a strange situation. I would dearly love an MR2 - but as the levels of customer service at this particular dealership clearly indicate that they have enough business at the moment and can afford to be choosy (I thought that this was a quiet time of year for car dealerships!!!!) I will be cancelling my order this afternoon. There have been no problems with arranging finance etc. - the probles lie purely with the dealers. As a loyal (or should I say previously loyal) Toyota customer (having owned 2 Celica's and a Supra) - I am disgusted. I will never again recommend Toyota or EVER purchase a Toyota again. I own a white '87 MkI MR2. I helped it out as my first car. I have
been driving it for two and a half years now. Last summer I undertook
the project of rust removal. Wisconsin winters started to take their
toll. I managed to remove the rust, rivet on new steel, aluminum
bondo, repaint by the back wheels, and replace the rubber guards. I
would like to add a supercharger or turbo to it, but I don't know what
is possible and at what cost. I will just be turning over 89,000
miles on it this weekend. Other than the rust that is reappearing with
the winter salt, it has been a GREAT car! Nice site!

My MR2 absolutely rules. I waited and waited for one to come through the dealer auction, and finally I found it. It is a 1991 model, bluish-green with T-Tops, manual 5-speed, alloys, and only 60,000 miles. It is gorgeous. I hate to tell you all that I picked it up for around $7,500, but this can be accomplished with sheer patience. Anyway, it is a fantastic car, and I plan to move to Arizona with it and drive it into the ground

I drove my dark blue '88 off the lot with 90 miles on it ! I never want to give it up !!! BUT... Does anyone know how to convert the trunk into a rumble seat (kids) or put snow tracks on the rear (Northern Indiana) ??? I read with great empathy the guys web page on "Why Buy a Toyota". I had TERRIBLE service in Louisville for the first 9 months with ongoing breaks problems. They finally worked themselves out (it sure wasn't due to the dealer). Have had almost NO problems since then...Except the State Police !!!!

I'm sorry to say that I'm a little disapointed with the folks that
read and sign the guest book. I asked a question earlier this month about the reliability of the 91-95 MR2 and only got one response. sI
still been some input as I haven't made my decision yet. I asked if
anyone had the cracking problem with T-tops. Also if any promlems
other than what was mentioned in FAQ about tire wear. I am still
driving my 86 and it's still running great now that, with members
help, I solved my O2 sensor problem. ( Got a New one) Thanks for those who responded to that. I do still need to get some feedback on the 91-95. All will be appreciated.

I race a '85 Mr2 at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Nova Scotia with only
suspension mods. It has 135,000 original km. We never even checked the valves, just changed the oil twice a summer (which are short up here).
It goes like hell and handles great, but there is always room for improvement. We are always looking for ways to make it go faster without spending scades of cash.

Well... personally, I was both happy and sad to find this site. I'm glad that it was site devoted to the best car rather than some new
type of shoe polish or something. That was nice. But, I was looking for a domain name for myself, I thought I might have found one, but it
is already taken. :( Oh well. Thanks, I liked your site anyways for what it's worth.

I'm looking for an MkII turbo. However I heard that there is a problem with almost all turbos; the turbo lags. Is that true?? Does that mean that the car's acceleration is like 7-8 seconds instead of 5.9 secs??? Help!

Just browsing; own a '93 MR2, non-turbo, with full leather and center console storage option.Has really annoying noise and vibration from inside rear deck, during cold weather. Looking for info on other owners' corrective actions that have worked to stop these pesky noises, buzzes, rattles, etc. Also solutions to drivers' side air turbulence noise from window-to-side-door glass area (high speed whistle).
Final inquirey: looking for best source and easiest method to aquire and install"factory" (Toyota) fog lights (from turbo package) into non-turbo '93 body.

I'm on my second MR2. My first an 85 NA drove it 'till it died! Now
I have a 93 NA with 24K miles, but I want to make this into a turbo.
Can this be done without buying a new car? How? I am also
interested in putting fog lights on my baby. Went to the lighting part
of this page anyone have experience with the Hella covers?

HAHAHAHA! It's finally mine! After 18 months of searching, I now own the perfect MR2 turbo. And the purchase was made largely by the knowledge this site was able to provide. Keep it up Geoff! I'm stoked, no one will see me for weeks, I'm going to sleep in my car...

This web site is great for MR2 owners, such as myself, but it was extremely slow yesterday, 2/20/97 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. I couldn't even get to this page. It's much better now (2/21, 12:20pm). AOL is not the only one suffering from traffic on the web.

INSURANCE. I was wondering, can we fool an insurrance company by telling them we have a normal MkII instead of a turbo, since the only visual difference is a 2nd muffler (and hopfully the insurrance doesn't know about it....)? Also, how much around are you guys paying for insurrance? Is there tricks to make it real low?

Had a black '86; drove it for 80,000 miles - then got a MB (used) - missed my '86 so much I got another. What can I say about the MR2? It's the only car I've ever had that I've never tired of of "gotten used" to (bad sentence I know). it is a car with a personality...

My wife owns a 1990 MR2 G-Limited (Mk II) in metallic green - something different to the usual red! This car is auto (and still quick), has ABS and targa tops. Had several problems with this car (Jap import), but have sorted most out. Replaced standard shocks with Bilstein gas (calibrated), replaced springs (20% stiffer for NZ roads) and finally got rid of infuriating (and damaging) pinking by installing a Fuelstar fuel catalyst. We love this car, and are now looking for a late-94 to '96 model as a stable mate.

My wife and I have owned 3 MR2s since 1985. We currently have a 1991 and are trying to decide if we want to keep it or sell and get a 1994 or 1995. It really is a shame that Toyota quit importing the 2 to North America. Your site is a great wealth of information!

I own a gorgeous black late '94 - 29k miles.
Although I have the latest version of the Mk2 (not available in the US, I believe??), I cannot buy a Turbo, can I??? But then, perhaps that is just as well given the difference in fuel prices between the Uk and the US!

Does anyone own an older supercharged version? I'm looking at a 88 model with 85XXX miles and a intercooled supercharger. What I am wondering is if the MR2's suffer from Turbo burnout like most other makes at about 90XXX. This thing really rocks. I've driven a lot of other stock sprts cars and was suprisedat the room and comfort of such a small car.

Had an '85 for about a year; its engine seemed rather tired (even
though the car *supposedly* had only 30+K miles on it...) so I sold
it two years ago and managed to find a 91 Turbo for sale a few miles
down the street. It took a month for the owner to come up with a
title, but it was worth the wait. I love this thing. I'm excited to
find all the aftermarket engine beef-up opportunities via this page.
I'm hoping I can get equipment to make a noticeable difference in power (and, esp., low-end torque) via some of this equipment. any
suggestions on the "best" way to spend, oh, say $500 to improve
engine performance would be appreciated!
later,
-leor

I'M A NEW OWNER OF AN F-REG. MR2 AND THE NEW OWNER OF A PC, SO I'VE GOT LOADS OF DEBT NOW. MY MR2'S IN REAL GOOD NICK EXCEPT FOR SOME RUST UNDER A REAR WHEEL-ARCH SO I WANT TO PAMPER IT. TO THIS END THIS SITE SHOULD BE EXCELLENT. I'LL BE LOOKING TO MAKE A LOT OF USE OF IT OVER THE COMING MONTHS AND WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THANKS TO WHOEVER IT IS THAT DOES ALL THE WORK TO KEEP THIS GOING.
BY THE WAY I THINK THE CAR IS BRILLIANT, BETTER THAN THE HOT HATCH
I HAD, THOUGH I DO FIND THAT THE REAR END DOES SLIDE OUT EASILY IN THE
WET. STILL, I'M SURE I CAN LIVE WITH THAT.
THANKS AGAIN,

P.S. I'M QUITE WILLING TO EXCHANGE INFO. OR EVEN MEET ANY OTHER OWNERS OUT THERE WHO LIVE IN THE BRIGHTON AREA. ESPECIALLY THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE IN ANY OWNERS' CLUBS LOCALLY.
