Sat Mar 1 1:25:41 1997 Jonathan Rosario Excellent Web page...just bought an 89 MR-2 with no paperwork , so your page was a good source of info. Especially like the classifieds also, as I am (already) considering upgrading to the next-gen MR-2 (while good examples are still around!!). Again, great job!!!
Sat Mar 1 1:58:44 1997 ray sommer I have a blue 1993 MR2 and love it. Tires don't seem to last too long. Guess I just take off too fast.

Sat Mar 1 16:30:8 1997 Gregory L.Jones The love of my life has one, And I would love to have a 95 Turbo.
Sat Mar 1 18:4:21 1997 Terry Staniforth I own a 1987 MR2, Navy blue. I truly believe that Toyota should have continued on with the great MR2 tradition.
Sat Mar 1 18:51:50 1997 Tony Drecchio I love my 85 mr-2. After losing my previous car to a accident that wasn't my fault I was able to locate a almost perfect 85 MR-2. It's previous owner let some rust eat out the driver side floor pan, but I quickly took care of that. It's also painted a General Motots color, color #41, a turqoise mettalic that looks really good. The interior is in perfect shape, but I plan to put all black seats in instead of the black/grey ones. Also a steering wheel upgrade, maybe a GT Grant or a Momo unit. I also plan to install a Pacesetter exhaust system to give it a deeper sound.
Sat Mar 1 19:9:58 1997 Jürgen Adam My Mr 2 is a 91 Model.I Love it!!!!

Already thinking of performance upgrades to race it at Race City,Calgary! Anyone up for a challenge? My only drawback so far is the limitations of this car for a system. Any ideas? Bye-bye!
Sun Mar 2 20:39:33 1997 Bob Hale Ran into one of those V6 Fiero Gt's the other day, 5 speed. The guy driving was good, but my 85 (naturally aspirated, TRD plug wires, HKS cat-back, HKS flywheel, K&N, otherwise box-stock but VERY healthy). Gave me a decent run off the line ( I suffer a little due to 10.5 pound Flywheel) til I shifted into third- creating 3 carlength lead and frusterated Fiero owner !! I love this damn car !!!
Mon Mar 3 4:57:26 1997 Svein Aannestad What a lowly car !!!!!!

Tue Mar 4 4:43:35 1997 CHRIS I am now the proud owner of white 1991 MR2, non-turbo! This is a great car and if I change the emblems to Ferrari tags I'm sure I could get away with it!(With the car's exotic looks and all!). Still peppy without the turbos and with future mods I plan to take it out on the track at Race City Speedway this summer! Anyone up for a challenge? Only drawback so far is the limitations on putting a system in. Any ideas? Any repair manuals out there other than dealer($!) books? See ya!

Wed Mar 5 22:7:45 1997 Alexandra Grayson My 1985 Red MR2 is my first car. I named her "Mary Anne" after my granny, since she co-signed the loan to buy it (but that's not important..) As a first time stick-shift driver, I have to tell you I have a real blast driving it every day. It's peppy, gutsy, and utterly cool! Vrooom vrooom!
Wed Mar 5 23:46:39 1997 Ken Dickson Im tearing up the mountains of NC in my Turbo MR2! (NC # MR.MR22U). Ive owned 5 of em. My ex is driving my 91 Turbo around Atlanta....run the @##% of the road for me!
Thu Mar 6 1:54:41 1997 Andy Rowatti I have a white 86 mr2 with the white ground effects. For all of you white mr2 owners out there, the next time you buy tires, try buying tires w/ white raised letters. Keep them clean with bleach and they look awsome. I know you can only get those tires in radials but the handleing is still awsome, I like to compare the handleing to a go-cart.
Thu Mar 6 4:59:35 1997 gerald i love mrt turbo fantastic car!!!!
Thu Mar 6 8:4:53 1997 Cees Verboom I own a 1986 MR2 myself, it is my first one. I'm already hooked on it. Greetings from Holland!!!
Thu Mar 6 17:33:39 1997 MIKE I HAVE A 1985 MR2 AND IT'S BETTER THAN ANY OTHER I HAVE EVER OWNED. I'D RECOMMEND BUYING ONE TO ANYONE. THEY'RE GREAT CARS!!
Thu Mar 6 18:21:56 1997 Marlene Timm I own a 1993 MR2, and love it--of course. But when it comes to tires, most folks who sell the things are basically clueless when it comes to my car. A few years ago some goofball sold me "snow" tires that were 185/50s. Unbelievable. It was so unstable on the highway that I nearly killed myself many times over. My advice for anyone new to the cars is to know what tires you need, and to make sure the people who sell them to you know what they're doing. I trusted a large tire chain because the dealer never gave me an owner's manual! Anyone want to buy a set of tires, originally $390 for the pair, used only one month?
Thu Mar 6 19:11:51 1997 Peter Hargreaves Your picture of the Mk1 suggests a bias here! What don't you like about the Mk2? My wife and myself have one of each so we can really claim to be unbiased. Nice site by the way. Best wishes to all MR2 drivers,
Thu Mar 6 20:5:59 1997 lolo i hit 195mph with my '85mr2. engine set up for high speeds. it has 11.0 to 1 compression basically a very worked block and all possible parts installed. including high comp pistons, carillo rods, supercharged mr2 crank to name just a few. the head is toyota atlantic spec. tranny is worked for top end and high speed applications. hit 195 on 210 freeway heading towards pasadena. for those who don't know, that's in california USA. hoping to hit 200 with a few more mods to the suspension and wheel and tire combination. yes it's the 4ag engine. currently hitting 10.89 best time in the 1/4 mile at 142.7 mph. run made in pomona with street tires and loads of traction loss. bye bye!!
Fri Mar 7 2:58:49 1997 Sam Joseph - IMPORTANT- IMPORTANT- IMPORTANT- IMPORTANT- IMPORTANT- IMPORTANT- - MAINTENENCE ADVISORY- MAINTENENCE ADVISORY- MAINTENENCE ADVISORY: - All TurboCharged and SuperCharged MR2s: - Battery / Intercooler Mount Case: This unit is HEAVILY rubberized. It traps water between its thick coating and its substrate after it inevitably cracks. Worse, this rubberized coating conceals rust between it and its substrate. I almost missed it myself! When washing turbocharged or supercharged MR2s, water trickles through the "cheese-grader", down through the weep holes in the intercooler, through to the rearward side of the battery just under the intercooler, where it finally penetrates the minute cracks indicative of an aged Battery- Intercooler mount. The rust may not be visable under this heavy rubberized coating, but it will likely be substantial. A tell-tale sign is to remove then inspect each of the threads of the bolts that secure the intercooler. If rust or acid is present upon these threads, then you could have problems, and you need to replace the mount, AND THE FOUR INTERCOOLER BOLTS. What's worse is when the intercooler is removed by a mechanic. What then are the odds that these bolts will find their way back into the holes they came out?! Hence, the rusted intercooler bolts have a probability of infecting the intercooler mounts on the other side of the intercooler (!), threatening to rust your pride and joy from the very midpoint of its being. And, he replacement part only costs 12 bux at Toyota. Sam Joseph: Friend of Man- ASJendcommunique
Fri Mar 7 3:36:46 1997 Cormac My 1992 2L GT mr2 has a slight problem, second gear is a little notchy and sometimes baulks until the car is driven a few minutes and warms up. Does anyone have a quick fix? Would a transmission oil additive help?
Fri Mar 7 4:40:29 1997 Rob Herrington I own a Blue 1991 MR-2, naturally aspirated with only 38,000 miles. It has stock suspension, wheels, and engine. I hope to upgrade to Tokico 5 way, Eibrach's, and exhausts/aircleaner. I am the original owner.

Thu Mar 13 13:59:26 1997 Chester W. Vlaun I am sorry to hear of the hault in production of the MR2. I have two of those other mid-engines (85 and 88 Fieros), but have always like the MR2 too. I might get one one of these days, but the garage is full, and my wife will not give up het bay...... It's sad that the 'affordable' mid-engine cars do not make it in the market. Think of how many people are really missing the fun.... Regards and happy motering Chet

Fri Mar 14 20:12:1 1997 Paul Seikel I've got an '85 mr2. No mods yet but i'm gonna start doing some soon. Does anyone have any ideas on improving the the airflow of an mk1 when the windows are open? I thought about making the rear glass removeable, similar to the honda del sol, but I don't know how good that would be with the engine back there (excess noise and CO levels). Is there an irc chat room that mr2 owners use out there?
Sat Mar 15 6:22:35 1997 David Porter Just got an '88 with 175,000 miles needing an engine rebuild. Looking for information on reasonable parts sources and things to watch out for. I have rebuilt many engines but never one of these. Should I get the trans done at the same time? Any help appreciated.

Sun Mar 16 18:16:41 1997 Anthony Drecchio I recently cleaned my engine and found that it was very hard to start afterwards. At first I thopught it was the distributor but that only had a few little drops in it, then I pulled out a plug boot. OH MY GOD, there was a 1/4 inch of water in there, AHHHH misfires. Can this be solved by simply bying a new set of wires, and plugs. Oh by the way, does any one know where I can get one of those nifty little nose bras for an 85 MK-I

Tue Mar 18 18:54:6 1997 Sean O'Hara Just bought a 92 MKII non-turbo and love it! I have owned low-end porsches and an RX-7 in the past, but they cant compete with the MR-2. I live in the midwest, and as many of you know, winter conditions, (ice, rain, salted roads) can cause havoc on even the best engineered cars. Has anyone that lives in the midwest had any problems with their MR-2 due to exposure conditions? are there areas prone to rust or water collection in the body, trunk or engine compartment. I have noticed one problem with my car that I would like to share. During cold weather, the trunk lid and carpet seems to have excessive condensation. I would only assume with is caused by the engine compartment being so close. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks
Tue Mar 18 21:37:54 1997 jeremy i have a 1986 MR2 that has 110k miles on it. i am the second owner and was very pleased to find that the previous owner had taken such good care of the car and everything is original.

Wed Mar 19 15:8:47 1997 Nikki Fawcett (again) Thanks for recent e-mails I've received. Unfortunately, I thought I had responded to them all, but I seem to have a glitch or something, as nearly all of my mail was returned to me. Not sure why, exactly, but I'll keep trying. Had my '91 Japanese import for 5 days and 3 1/2 hours, and I've nearly forgotton what life was like without it. Love to hear from anyone, even just for a chat - I'm not highly technically minded, I just knows that it's a pretty stonkey looking car, with loads of go. I hope this excitement never wears off! I love going to work each day!
Wed Mar 19 17:3:15 1997 Bert Stadnyk I find the site interesting, however since I've been trying for over a month to get my car listed in the who's who and the SC registry only took a day,I wonder what's up.I've even emailed geoff@mr2.com directly. What gives??????

In my country (JAPAN), The MR2 is ranked in FAST-SPORTS CARS CLASS like Toyota 3000GT(Supra TwinTurbo), Nissan Fairlady Z and Nissan Skyline GTR. In small and tight course, MR2 awakes its cornerling clear performance and closed-gear accelaration ability. Thanks you(page owner and fans)!

Sun Mar 23 6:47:18 1997 C. G. Burns Anybody have an easy way to clean (or dry off) dirt or water from the rear deck platform just below the air louvers? I've tried a leather chamois, and even a soft terri-cloth fitted with a flat plastic pusher, but it's marginal at best. Seems like a great accessory to have; any good ideas out there ? C.G. Burns '93 Gray Stock

Tue Mar 25 0:37:19 1997 Howard Jungkind I have recently purchased a plain jane 1987 MR2. I had it painted the new BMW Z3 deep Metalic blue. I added the rear visor and am about to put on the ground effects kit which I got from a local car shop in NJ. I would like to put wheels and tires on it for the road (esthetics). I would like to get a source for parts and pictures of others who have gone this way before.
Tue Mar 25 0:37:19 1997 Gene Miller Bought my loaded white 85 while i was a fleet sales and leasing manager with a now defunct toyota dealership in northern florida. Paid $500 over dealer cost of $11,600 while others were paying up to $1500 over window sticker (I was fortunate). It must be kismit that I found this site for this weekend I am going to donate the car to a charitable org. The clutch is just about gone, the engine chatters like a mad squirrel, it has rusted thru both the rear quarter panels behind the tires and has approximately 325,000 miles on it. Man what a ride it has been!!! First MR2 I sold was a blue 85 to a navy blue angel mechanic he loved the color and the two-tone seats. I believe he used the blue angel yelloy paint to add accent stripes. My first encounter with the law was for speeding (sober) 100+ MPH approximately 2 weeks after buying mine. I explained to the deputy that it was real easy to loose track of your speed and handed him one of my cards. I volunteered to let him test drive mine on the spot and because it was about 2am, he took me up on the offer. The following week i sold him a loaded red one. Oh, for pappy MR2 stands for Mid engine Rear wheel drive 2 seater. Married now with 2 kids...must be reasonable...so I'm going to have a 1966 mustang convertible restored (it has a backseat)...going now to drink a six of bud, smoke an ashton maduro, and then cry myself to sleep!

Fri Mar 28 13:13:58 1997 Brian Habich I have been using your web pages for about a year now and I am very impressed with all of the hard work you have put into it. I own a '91 MR2 and I love it to death. When I was 13 I started saving up for my car after I saw a picture of it in an Auto Trader. I never thought that I would be able to save enough to purchase it but with working 60 hours a week in the summers, I pulled it off. I'm only 18yrs old now and I have done some work to it(even though I am now broke). I had installed Tokico 5-way adjustable struts with -1" Eibach pro-kit lowering springs. I bought 14" Prime wheels with Kelly Charger tires (they are better than the hub caps that came with the car). My next project is to tint the windows and get a new front end from TOM'S. I am very interested in MR2 car clubs, if you could send me some #'s I would appreciate it. I hope to here from you soon Brian Habich
