Tue Apr 1 1:33:57 1997 Corona Any one with a MR2 should watch out for "hairline cracks" in the chassis where the torsion bar is bolted on, I found out by chance that my 91 model was suffering this, if the torsion bar lets go at high speed, you and your car could be history. (check out your car, it takes five minutes and could save your life). Incidently, the repair bill is going cost almost the price of the car. Dampness in the trunk is caused by water entering into where the rear wing bolts to the trunk lid.

I'm in the Air Force and it has traveled to the Phillippines and Hawaii. We are now in Illinois. My car was the first MR2 every in the Phillippines when I was stationed at Clark AB in 1987. Anybody there at the time may remember the vanity plant "Jennifer" on the front. My daughter claimed at the time that everybody thought that was the car's name. And I got the parts at 30% off from Cabe toyota in Long Beach. Mike did a great job and I recommend his work to anybody. He also di a lot of repainting and finishing which has freashend up the car completely.

Fri Apr 11 12:26:43 1997 Randy Chase Hi, I autocross a 91 NA MR2 in SCCA (San Diego). In response to people who are getting steering wheel shimmy at higher speeds only, a very common reason is that the aftermarket rims are not hubcentric. Lugcentric rims will go in and out of balance as you drive, causing higher speed steering wheel shake. E-mail me if you need more info on this. There are two ways to solve this, one is to custom machine a hubcentric spacer, the other is to get new rims.

Mon Apr 14 4:35:46 1997 lawrence I got 90MR2 which was import from Japan, it has a different rear light and spoiler so as the engine was a bit high tune. Currently, it give 180ps(they state) but I would like to have more power for fun, is there any Turbo Kit I can add on? My garage suggested I swap the current engine with a turbo but the existing engine is so new (30000km) and it never has ANY problem, I just don't want to give it away. Any Suggestion ? Thx.

Tue Apr 15 5:58:17 1997 Reed Scherer Somebody help! I have an 85 Mk1 that I brought to Sweden from the US. It has a terrible klunk noise when I make a hard right turn. It's especially bad when the car is cold (usually the case in Sweden). I can't tell if it's the front or back. I see no external problem.Is it bearings or U-joint (U-joint boot is clean and in good shape) or something else? How expensive/difficult might the repairs be? Is it dangerous to drive? I'm no grease monkey and nobody here in Sweden knows the car since they were never sold here. I hope somebody can offer sound advice regarding my disconcerting sound. Thanks, Reed Scherer

It also has a full electric pack, with air con, heated front screen, retractable mirrors etc. Seems more sluggish than I expected though, could this be due to the catalytic converter? Have a bought a 119bhp model?

He reved his engine and looked at me. So I thought I'd accept the challenge. I didn't beat him(of course), but I was able to keep up with him. I'm pretty sure the guy in the Corvette must have been surprised that he didn't blow me away. Me and my MKII turbo proved that we can keep up with the "big boys."

Tue Apr 22 21:9:58 1997 BoB Just purchased an '87 Red, base model. no real goodies but the rear wing and Clear toyota cape over the rear window. Pretty compfortable even for a 6+ footer. It's a Florida car...lots of heat/sea air damage to the interior and red paint is faded. But at 139k (and having been body repaired at some time) it seems peppy and tight. I am thinking a new timing belt would be a good idea, just to be safe. My brother has a silver '85 with 158k and counting that he bought a couple years ago, lots of options. He loves it but it iverheated when Toyota dealer in Clonial heights, Va. couldn't figure out where thermostat was.

I've got an 85 Red MR2 with a modified 93 Japanese Celica engine (Same powerplant, 4A-GE, just more top end) and I've received alot of questions about how it was done. Unfortunatly, I've been without a permanent E-mail address for a couple of months, so if I haven't gotten back to you, I apologize, please feel free to contact me with any questions you have, or tell me about your machine!. I just recently installed a custom ground effects skirt on the front, which I made myself from Fibreglass (because the Factory ones from 88-89 are about $850 and are not compatible with an 85 front end) and a new paint job (3E5 Super Red of course, it's a nice colour!) I hope to have a picture downloaded on here soon (once I get the rims and rubber) Give me a shout! and in the meantime remember: LIFE BEGINS AT 6500RPM!!!!!!!!

Mods planned: -Lowering springs, adjustable shocks -BFG-R1 tires (for auto-x) -Manual boost controller, and boost gauge -Clear lenses (on order) -Carbon/metal brake pads -Suspension Technices sway bars, and bushings -Strut-tower braces (triangulated) -FCD (I'd like about 14-15 psi) -Fuel-rail and fuel pump mods (keep fuel supply up) -Crane HI-6 ignition and coil I love this web site. Great job by everyone involved in maintaining it. My car and I are happy to have found it.

I want to buy a lens replacement from a crashed or junked 1994 or higher with the new lens treatment. Please E-mail me at . Also, since I've purchased my car, I experience an intermittent 'crunch' into third. It happens from any gear at any temperature, and at any RPM. The fluid has been changed every 10,000 Miles. One Toyota dealer told me that that is an inherent trait with MR2's (False: I put 160,000 Miles on my 1987!) One dealer told me that I wasn't putting my foot to the floor when I shifted, and another told me it would go away! Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated- Toyota is still trying to diagnose the problem as we speak. DD
