Thu Jan 1 13:03:20 1998 David Morrison (ww-tk02.proxy.aol.com) I need information about overheating. I have an 86 MK1 auto transmition, with 83K. I have changed the thermostat, and the radiator cap. The problem I continue to have is that after running the car for more than 30 minutes the coolant overflows into the resivior. The temperature indicator goes all the way to hot. Upon removing the radiator cap, lots of steam releases and there is little coolant in the system. What could be causing the overflow? And what can I do to fix the problem? Any help wouled be greatly appriciated. Thanks, David

Fri Jan 2 16:48:42 1998 T. Fox (38.218.160.150) I have a beautiful 93 yellow turbo and love it! She's in the shop now getting a new clutch and turbos (guess what my new year's resolution is??). This is a great site. I've gotten help on everything from frozen parking brakes to tires (I'm glad I'm not the only one burning them up every six months). Keep it up! Sat Jan 3 19:58:34 1998 Krista Maghan (ww-tl01.proxy.aol.com) I am so glad there are sites devoted to my favorite car. I LOVE my 91 turbo, and hope you continue to provide interesting articles for mr2 enthusiasts!!!!!!!!
Sat Jan 3 22:55:31 1998 Brett Stacey (port04035.greenapple.com) On Friday, 1/2/98, I purchased my first MR2, a red NA 1994 with 7900 miles on the ticker. My car has T-tops, CD, and all the other amenities. I think I got a pretty good deal, paying $14,500 + tax & title from a local dealer (Columbus, OH). Simply put, the car is more than I ever dreamed; not only is it beautiful (I swear it is a clone of the Ferrari 348), but handles as well as any car I've ever driven (the 348 included!!). I like it so much, that Iam considering selling my '97 Supra Twin Turbo!!! Please let me know if I am right and if I got a good deal!!!
Sun Jan 4 11:17:56 1998 George (1Cust79.max16.philadelphia.pa.ms.uu.net) Subject: Mr.2 Boost controller. I would be grateful if anybody could tell me their experiences with this product. Sun Jan 4 15:52:24 1998 Pascal Ranchon (dial115.abacom.com) Great site!! I used to own an 86 Mr2. The best car I ever owned. As a mecanic, I can say it's well built and very reliable. OK everybody knows that here!! If I can ever afford another sports car again, it's gonna be a 93+ MR2 Turbo for sure. There is definately no match for an MR2, and even for Toyota. My Mazda protege 91 isn't crap, but nothing to match a Toy. Luckily enough, I have a friend that bought an 86 MR2 spring of 97, having me rebuild 75% of the car's mechanicals (sure I mind!) and letting me borrow it from time to time. (Thanks Mike!) I've had a 944 Turbo, RX7 Turbo II and of course the 86 MR2. MR2 RULES!!! A road legal go-KART !!!

I am currently looking for a header (someone please help). Forget the Supra, I have my MR-2!!!

Thu Jan 8 22:21:25 1998 Robert Edmands (199.3.69.101) I am currently driving my second MR2. The first was a 1985. I drove this all the way from California to Indiana-and on the famous Nevada route 50.-"The lonliest road in America". -It is that and the experience was fantastic!!You can drive for more than 2 hours without seeing another car at all. It would make a driver in a less reliable car nervous. Speed Limit? There is no one anywhere and no side roads for police to hide. I am now driving a 1991 turbo MR2. Life is good. ALL BEINGS PAY HOMAGE TO THE HUMAN IMMUNE SYSTEM.-It is another system that does a job with the unresting power of the MR2!! Bob.
Fri Jan 9 02:51:18 1998 Annette Garcia/Ron Brooks (nwmr01m02-16.bctel.ca) We have a 1986 MR2 purchased new, with aprox 120,000 KM (70,000 mi) currently showing on the clock. The car has been treated as close to a family member as a machine can, and it shows. It is without a doubt, the most interesting, fun to drive, and (best of all) well constructed automobile, that either of us has ever come across. Driving the car is an absolute riot, in this day of the bloated "Sport Ute"... being able to run rings around all of these common place "yuppie trucks" in and out of traffic, and all the while getting about 3X their fuel mileage. (hint; if you really want a SUV, wait about another year, and a pre-owned one will be cheaper than the dirt that they are supposed to conquer). We've done a few minor upgrades (+1 wheels and tires to 15 inch, shock absorbers etc.) but it really is hard to improve on the original Lotus/Toyota design. He's a "shared duty" vehicle now, and a second gen. car is of great future interest, but until this little warrior stops gen! erating as much fun as he currently does, we can't think of anything that could possibly replace him. A.G./R.B.
Fri Jan 9 07:54:53 1998 Rodger Stein (1Cust89.tnt1.princess-anne.va.da.uu.net) I own a early model 85 MR2, just under 100,000 miles still rides and drives like new. The paint (red), is fading pretty badly, but only on the back half, any suggestions?? The red MR2 with the bra looks super!! Any suggestions on upgrading the speakers--currently have stock in the dash, with Jensens behind the seat. Sounds ok,but would like to get rid of the spkrs behind the seats.
Fri Jan 9 09:25:21 1998 Oliver Prime (chive.cant.ac.uk)
Fri Jan 9 12:08:39 1998 Shawn (usem.com) On my way home from work today, my 1993 MR2 N/A will reach 100,000 miles. It's never given any problems and still holds the road excellently (just not in winter!)
Fri Jan 9 13:42:44 1998 Joseph Gillespie (ad58-007.arl.compuserve.com) What a wonderful ride it was. I recently lost my MR2 to Sentra SE-R when he T-Boned me at a city intersection. Everyone was okay and the Sentra drove home with a broken nose. The MR2 was totalled. A 1985 beige metallic five speed with 105k on the clock and a perfect interior, just for weekends. I miss my car.
Fri Jan 9 13:49:40 1998 Brian Cavanaugh (fw.keybank.com) I am a new owner of a used 1988 MR2 Supercharged with and HKS overdrive pully and HKS header. I seek information on other performance upgrades.
Sat Jan 10 00:14:58 1998 Eric (proxy.camtech.net.au) I have a 1985 non blown MK1 1600. Fantastic car! Am starting to have a few problems though. The car was imported to Australia by a diplomat who was in Japan, so the car is non standard Australian Import. I am getting a code 05 warning on the computer diognostics and the manuals avalible do not indicate what the error is. I have contacted Toyota in Japan and am informed that is an O2 sensor. They also sent me the computer diognostic from the Japanese manuals (unfortunately it is in Japanese). Does anybody out there Know about the O2 sensor and what to do about it.
Sat Jan 10 00:35:27 1998 Cameron (BOWERCA.OA.EARLHAM.EDU) My poor baby Mister was taken advantage of-his antenna was bent in half. Sun Jan 11 17:05:32 1998 Ken Chalfant (osp83.datasync.com) I have an '89 Supercharged. You guys who think your MK Is are fun to drive would do a job to your skivvy shorts. But, techno whizzes, I have a problem with the speedometer. It will sometimes jsut quit! Then, just as suddenly, starts back up again. I could live without the speedometer (it only serves to remind me how much faster that i am going than the law allows) but it also affects the speed control. Also, my T tops are locked in place with a key which is not the ignition/door/trunk. How do I go about getting the code to have new keys made? My local Toyota dealer and a I are not on good speaknig terms after some aborted repairs he sorta performed. Feel free to email me direct.

Sun Jan 11 21:11:06 1998 eddy (ww-tq02.proxy.aol.com) I want to modify the performance of my '93 MR2 5SFE correctly.... right now I have a Greddy exhaust and I have removed the origional air box and just installed a S&B air fillter.. I got the feeling that this is not the correct way to increase the air intake. I would also like to lower the MR2 for about 1 to 1.5 inches. But I am affraid that the car will get too bumpy... Should I just go to TRD?

Mon Jan 12 18:00:43 1998 mtb (129.37.42.63) Greetings everyone. I would first like to send out my thanks to those who responded to my question regarding performance increases seen by installing a K&N/other aftermarket air intake filter. Thank you again. However, I now have another question open to anyone. I own a '91 2.2 (White). I have noticed on newer MR2s (94-95) that the plastic door/body guards, as well as the underskirt of the car match the paint color of that particular car. Actually, the white MR2s seem to have a greyish/white color. I went to the dealer to inquire on obtaining these color matching body protectors and was BLOWN AWAY at the cost Toyota wants for these. They are sold seperately and all in all total about, are you ready for this $750.00!!! Therefore I am wondering if anyone out there has removed their body panels (you know the black body protectors) and painted them or had them painted at an auto paint shop? I understand that due to the type of plastic that these body protectors are, you ! can't just remove them and paint over the smooth black surface. I live in San Diego just in case someone out there reading this might live here as well and am open to all suggestions. Sorry for the long note. "Smoke 'em if you got 'em." Thu Jan 15 23:10:20 1998 Bruce Laycraft (proxy5.idirect.com) I bought a 1996 MR2 in December 1995 and have used it extensively on various tracks (Mosport, St. Jovite, Watkins Glen, Shannonville, etc.) Other than tires/wheels, suspension, exhaust and air filter - everything is original. I have about 135,000 km on it and it's never been winter driven. We run several lapping days at Shannonville each year and usually I'm the only MR2 there. Where's everybody hiding? Bruce Laycraft
Fri Jan 16 10:57:58 1998 T.N (studlabs53-161.dhcp.csuohio.edu) Just Wondering if anyone familiar with the Electronic Supercharge by the Company Name Grand Technology Inc. I had a 91 N/A MR2T,had a several mods such as BBS wheel,Toyo tire, Eibach Spring,Tokico adjustable shocks, Catz fog light,HKS super flow intake and exhaust system. The car is in a Perfect condition, run great But it still a Normal Aspiration MR2. Fri Jan 16 12:16:14 1998 Terry (ncc-h4.it-ncc.louisville.edu) I own a black 92 Turbo, slighlty modified. Its a gorgeous, swift, precise machine. My wife just bought an absolutely flawless 85, California-spec MR2. Its white, sunroof, power everything, cruise, factory security, etc. The former (and original) owner still has the factory car cover that says "1985 MR2 - MOTOR TREND CAR OF THE YEAR". Im having the engine rebuilt, injectors cleaned and balanced, TRD headers, HKS exhaust, K&N drop in, and Random Technologies high-flow cat all installed while she's down, as well as new suspension bushings and Tokico HP's. Yes my 92 handles better, looks better, and is much faster, but there is something about the MKI. The engine is louder, the cabin has less sound deadening material, and it lacks power steering, which all add the overall driving effect. I love them both like children. Just glad my wife has good taste...
Fri Jan 16 12:25:13 1998 Bob Crews (209.144.42.35) Bought 1993 MR2-Turbo in all original condition with only 30,000 miles. Immediately had it painted "Super Red" (#3E5) with BASF clearcoat paint system. It was black.. Paint job took two months; everything was removed! Looks better than any new car coming off the assembly line! Has all the options and runs great. Just put on a set of Alessio "Modena" wheels with SP8000 tires; 205/55 on front with 245/50 on rear. Looks great and runs great too. Love it! Really enjoy reading the articles on the MR2. Look foward to learning all I can about this fine "machine". Sat Jan 17 17:14:09 1998 Bryan Snook (dial-38-11.ots.utexas.edu) I have a 1985 Toyota MR2 with 144,000 miles. The engine in my car runs really rough. It misses bad, especially during acceleration or when the throttle position is changed. As a result of this missing, the car has very little power and is almost dangerous to drive. I have put a new set of fuel injectors in the car, new platnium tipped spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new distributor cap, new 02 sensor, tried a different ECU (from another 85 MR2), and have tried a different ignition coil and igniter (again from another 85 MR2), and have throughly inspected the entire emission control system for vacuum leaks. NONE of these things have helped the car the least bit. It still runs really rough/misses when accelerating. The next item that I suspect is the throttle position sensor. The measured voltage between the IDL and ground terminals on the ECU is 3.8 volts when the throttle is wide open. The service manual indicates that the proper voltage should be between 10-14 volts. ! Could a bad throttle position sensor cause the car to miss and stall like this? How critical is the throttle position sensor? If not the throttle position sensor, what else, besides what I have listed, could be the source of this trouble? Have you heard of any other MR2's, Toyotas, or any other vehicles on the face of the planet that have had this type of trouble? I do have the service manual for the car and have run through all of the troubleshooting items. Any help - from anyone - would be greatly appreciated.

Sun Jan 18 10:33:40 1998 Chuck Coleman (1Cust57.max14.cleveland.oh.ms.uu.net) Just bought a 92 N/A. Owners manual for Schedule A maintenance DOES NOT require changing the timing belt. 96,000 miles. No indication from previous records that belt was changed. Am I living on borrowed time?

Sun Jan 18 16:59:06 1998 Tony Dolman (client9544.globalnet.co.uk) Well. Ive had two MR2's including my current one (89' T-Bar, Red) and find them totally addictive. All-out power in the MK1 MR2 'aint what its all about. When it was first launched, the MR2 broke new ground as a conceptual vehicle (looks, design, performance etc)which fairly well summed up that 80's sci-tech optimism that pervaded throughout. The MR2, for me, is already a nostalgic experience; of affordable top marque driving, poise, road presence (and Duran Duran) that exceeds mostly anything else. For me there are no comparisons - the MR2 (THE MR2 ie the original car) sums up all that is desirable in private car'ing. Developments are inevitable, but the original MR2 is one of a kind. Write me at tony@nexus6.globalnet.co.uk if you agree.
Sun Jan 18 17:27:29 1998 Joshua Reynolds (207.60.103.9) I've mined this site for info while I was car shopping. I just bought a white 91 turbo. Thanks for all the effort.
Sun Jan 18 21:59:23 1998 frank wieser (proxy-125.iap.bryant.webtv.net) I have a 1992. I love the car, however, if I had a choice I would not buy the car with the T-TOPS. They leak and they are really not practical. However mine is Turbocharged and it is unreal quick and fast and it handles like a slot car.

Tue Jan 20 00:40:12 1998 Dennis McFayden (sd-ppp-190.abac.net) I am the satisfied owner of an '89 supercharged MR2. I would like to exchange ideas with other owners about how to keep the MR2 in like new condition without it costing a fortune. For example I would like to find a defective power antenna. One with a broken mast. I would like the mounting hardware. I have found that I can machine the hardware to fit some after marker antennas. They look exactly like the factory unit. I would also like to find a defective antenna with a good nylon drive gear. I have also had very good results in repairing the window control units. In most cases the problem is a defective relay. Replacement relays (form a relay manufacturer called Omron) are available for a couple of bucks.
Tue Jan 20 14:10:08 1998 Jeffrey Stangel (207.182.215.19) just bought a 89 mr2 60k super clean 1 owner now the fun begins looking for preformance part and handling stuff, anybody ?? please let me know thanks jeff

Tue Jan 20 14:50:33 1998 Terry (ncc-h4.it-ncc.louisville.edu) Can anyone in the Ohio Valley area (Louisville, Ky.) suggest a place to have my car painted. I want a factory-quality job. My 92 Turbo's previous owner appears to have buffed the car with SANDPAPER, and as a result, the black finish is less than ideal. I want it repainted black, but am wary of places like Earl Scheib's. Is there anywhere I can get an actual factory paintjob? I agree with the guy about the MkI not being all about speed. There is something in the car's spirit that's so addictive. I find myself trading my wife cars for an afternoon. Sometimes her '85 is just more appealing, and I my 92 is no Fier-. Any MR2 owner out there bought the G-tech computer from Tesla Elect. I did, and am curious about other peoples times with it. My 92 Turbo is bone stock, except for the Trust exhaust, and my quickest 0-60 time so far is 6.47. I'm experimenting with different launching techniques, shift points, etc. Well say. Goodbye for now to MR2 land. Still dreaming of that '95...

Thu Jan 22 12:12:33 1998 jeremy warnick (zubra.cc.umanitoba.ca) I own a 91 mr2 turbo (black),leather,t-tops,etc. The boys here in Winnipeg are all freaks when it comes to upgrades. I will be frequently calling to see what's up. I think it bites that mr2's ceased sales to Canada, there's a large market here! Mr2's are so rare in Winnipeg that many people havn't even seen one before. You guys have got an incredible web site, talk to ya later boyz!
Thu Jan 22 14:01:15 1998 GARY BUFALO (gate4.gateway.com) I BOUGHT AN '88 MR2 A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. I INVESTED IN 15" WHEELS AND TIRES, TINTED THE WINDOWS, CUSTOMIZED THE INTERIOR, AND HAD SOME MINOR TOUCH UPS DONE TO IT, AND KNOW I'M ALMOST SAD TO SAY.....I'M SELLING IT. FEAR NOT, LOYAL MR2 FANS, I JUST PURCHASED A '92 WHITE MR2,50,XXX MILES, 5-SPEED, T-TOPS, AUTO EVERYTHING, AFTER THE PURCHASE, I HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT WOULD FELL LIKE TO HAVE AN AFFAIR. I HATE TO SELL MY '88, BUT HEY, THE '92 DOES AN EXDRODINARY JOB IN MAKING IT BEARIBLE. IN THE MEAN TIME KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ON THIS WEB SITE.

Thu Jan 22 20:08:43 1998 Robert (proxy-10.pjc.cc.fl.us) Since the older MR-2's have the 4ag motor I thought I might run into someone that can help me. I own a 1986 Corolla GT-S and was wondering if anybody has put a turbo in the car. I know HkS used to sell the turbo kit for the older MR-2's but was wondering if anybody has put one in a Corolla Gt-S. If anybody has or knows someone that has done it or can do it, please e-mail me at mwalters@students.uwf.edu. for the 4ag motor guys, there is a project going on for the Corolla GT-S in the Super Street magazine. Check it out.

Sat Jan 24 04:24:13 1998 Randy Schimka (pc139.mcc.sdge.com) I bought my '86 Red MkI in August '85. It has 77K miles and is going pretty well without too many problems (just power window regulators and trunk latch stuff). I'm faced with a slow oil leak from the engine right now and the dealership says it is the head gasket....At $600, I haven't done anything about it yet. I can't see where the oil is coming from. Could it be the oil pressure sending unit? Anyways, great web site....
Sat Jan 24 12:44:22 1998 Marilyn Shafer (2.los-angeles-04.ca.dial-access.att.net) Greetings fellow MR2 lovers! I have a 1991 NA MKII (for the past 6 months now - and am still loving it!). But, I have a parts problem... Anyone have, or have an idea where I can get an ashtray for the car? I use it for change and for some reason, the top broke. Toyota dealership here says its a whole unit (and in fact, in 1991, they split production of that ashtray into two different model numbers). Then, Toyota wants $52 (!!!) for it. Help! At the same time - I would be interested in a stock shift knob (black) as Toyota wants $45 for it. Any ideas where I can go get or does any one have either (cheaper)? TIA and enjoy the day.
Sat Jan 24 14:23:33 1998 Jay LaPlante (dyn1-tnt2-232.detroit.mi.ameritech.net) I own a 1993 grey MR2. It is the best car I have ever owned. It has 99,000 miles on it and is still going strong. I would like to know more about tips on improving the suspension. It is about time to redo the shocks and springs. This is a great sight keep up the good work!!

Sat Jan 24 19:02:18 1998 Aaron Williammee (compaq.igalaxy.net) I thought that I was the only one that could love a car so much. I first saw the new generation MR2 in 1989, on the back cover of my National Geographic magazine and at first sight I was in love. I still don't have one but after visiting this site I am reorganizing my priorities. I carry a picture of her around with me always and need my own! Thanks for helping me see the truth!
Sat Jan 24 21:23:18 1998 Mark Zogg (304-A-38-180.ppp.mcleodusa.net) I just bought a 91 MR2, non turbo. It is dark green mettalic(Aquamarine?) outside with black interior. The seats are cloth. It has a/c, cruise, power locks and windows, t-tops and shades, and radio with cassette and cd player. It doesn't have foglights and I need to find the carriers for the t-tops when I remove them this summer. It has 69,000 miles on it and in great shape, it has no rust and only a few paint chips nad one small dent on the rear quarter panel. I also have a 98 Z28 1LE for summers and nice weather, and of course some racing. The MR2 will not come close to beating it in a straight line, but in the corners it may be a different story. I have always wanted one since they first came out but didn't have a chance to get one.

Sat Jan 24 23:21:37 1998 John Peacock (tcipm6-13.totcon.com) I recently sold my 88 MR2 due to lack of power and handling. I had a Triumph TR8 with 300+hp and full KONI suspension at the time. I have just sold that and purchased a Supercharged 89 MR2. Much better power, but would like info on upgrades in horses and handling. I would like to autocross this car. I am in the Central Florida area, and of course it has T-Tops. I would like to meet other enthusiasts in my area. Any info greatly appreciated.
Sun Jan 25 01:12:01 1998 Mike Harrington (ip169.charleston.sc.pub-ip.psi.net) Used to own a 87 - Need another! Ex-MR-2 Owner & current fan RX-7 fan (and owner) This site is really nice! Lots of good info.
Sun Jan 25 02:39:51 1998 Chris King (line7016.ras.ilstu.edu) Being one of the few mr2'ers in central Illinois hasn't deterred me. Hoping to eventually find some people around here or maybe I will have to move! Anyways, if anyone is in the vicinity and would like to get together to chat about our cars, drive, etc. drop me a line!
Sun Jan 25 17:48:08 1998 brendan patti (qrvl-67ppp54.epix.net) I am the very proud owner of a 1987 Mr2. It still handles and sounds sweet. I bought the mr2 from a friend for $750. Let me tell you it was one hell of a deal. When i bought it the only thing that was wrong with it was it had to have minor bodywork on the right side due to a previous accident. Other then that it was in excellent shape there are so many things i have wanted to do to it since then but of caorse do not have the money. About 2 months ago in december i got in my first accident. i thought i could cry my baby had been injured. the hood crumbled the headlight forced down. i am now in recovery mood with a new hood and in process of finding a new headlight cover im in my very begginng stages of fixing this car the way it should look. PERfect! 1987 t-top, red MR2
Sun Jan 25 18:42:31 1998 Sloan McLaughlin (user658.theonramp.net) This web site is both informative and entertaining; Keep up the good work! I am in the market for a MKI, and have found this web site very helpful in conducting my search. The example that I am most likely to purchase in the coming week is a normally aspirated automatic 1988 in relatively good condition. I have read the FAQ concerning "front end shimmy", and the suggestion for correcting this problem (tightening the lug nuts to 76 ft.lbs. per sq. in.) but I still have a question: Should I suspect that (apparently) minor front end damage might also play a part in the problem? The front bumper and spoiler have been repainted and one side of the front spoiler is somewhat higher than the other, but the fenders and hood are straight and have not been repainted. I had Carfax run the VIN and the car had a clean 2 owner history, showing 125K on the odometer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!

Mon Jan 26 10:25:06 1998 Dave Rothrock (p1-210.senate.gov) Hello fellow MR2 owners. I am trying to plan a drive, to include a stop for lunch, in the Washington DC Metro Area. I would like to locate the drive outside of DC (preferable away from the traffic somewhere in rural Northern Virginia). The date has been set as March 28, 1998. I am currently waiting for conformation to use a parking lot in Manassas. If you would be interested in attending please e-mail me. In the e-mail please include your name, e-mail address, interest level, and any suggestions you may have to help me. I will write a weekly letter keeping those interested updated as to the time, place, dining arangments, etc.. I hope everyone will try to come out. Keep driving, Dave Rothrock Drothrock1@aol.com 93 Super Red Tag# ROOM 4-1 Note: This letter has gone out to over 100 MR@ owners in MD, VA, and DC. More states to follow. Wouldn't that be an impressive site.
Mon Jan 26 11:57:52 1998 Bob Crews (209.144.42.35) Has anyone installed a performance chip in their MR2-Turbo? If so, what brand and are you pleased with the results? Any difficulties with having the chip. I have checked into "Superchips" and they told me what they would do to my ECU was to wire in a printed circuit board to change the voltage to increase the boost and my ECU would take care of the timing change, fuel, etc. on its own. I'm not sure if I feel comfortable with this "mod". My car is completely stock with no engine modifications. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bob Crews
Tue Jan 27 09:29:50 1998 Dave Skull (38.247.196.244) I recently purchased a 1991 MR2 Turbo and looking for information of all natures regarding this fine automobile. I race SCCA local events and am looking for performance info as well. This really looks like an awsome website. I plan on spending many hours visiting and hopefully contributing to these efforts.
Tue Jan 27 14:03:50 1998 Andy Hodgson (163.185.6.74) An excellent page. Well done!
Tue Jan 27 16:55:39 1998 Alan Miles (mail.bdixon.com) I own a 93 MR2 which I use as my daily driver and I love it! It is the best combination of performance, comfort and economy that I have driven to date. My only complaints are low-end torque and tire wear. I appreciate this website (which I have just visited for the first time as I just got access) for enabling to learn how others have addresssed these concerns. Thanks.
Tue Jan 27 17:13:47 1998 Sean Braiden (finch-06.www.demon.co.uk) I have a 1989 Mk1 MR2 and I adore it! Here in Wales (UK) we have twisty uncrowded roads and the MR2 is a dream to drive...... its roadholding and ability to power out of bends make it fun! (And not much can catch it!) I also have a Peugeot 205 diesel (yawn!) but it allows me: (a)To carry more than a toothbrush when necessary..... and: (b)To stay in a straight line when we get snow!! As much as I love the MR2 it is EVIL on snow covered roads!!! Anyone drive one regularly on snow? Any snow driving MR2 tips? (Apart from keeping a spare pair of trousers at hand!!!) Nice friendly and informative website!
Tue Jan 27 17:45:43 1998 Lee Caskey (henrycogswell.com) I've recently moved down to Everett to attend college. My MR2 went with me on the long ferry trip down and has been through alot since last year. About two months of living here it was stolen and raped of everything the theives could easily remove (spoiler, wheels, tape deck, sun visors, etc.) They were kind enough to put on three 15x7 alloy wheels with the correct tire size, but I miss my Rotas. After putting on my spare and repairing a front strut damaged a month earlier, the car still runs and drives great and I'm very glad it was found (not by the police, they're worthless!) Hope to have my own Website and E-mail address soon. Keep up the great work!!! -Lee Caskey
Tue Jan 27 19:08:46 1998 Rik Ebbesen (ppp193.pressroom.com) I am the proud, second owner of a 1991 yellow, turbo. I've owned it since 5/96 and wouldn't think of selling it.
Tue Jan 27 20:57:17 1998 William Henglein (dialup030.lubb.ttuhsc.edu) Great site. I purchased an 86 Mr2 and have put 144,000 on it. On a dry day it corners wonderfully. The car is light with wide tires so I’ve always disliked driving in the rain. One day I encountered bad weather on the interstate and as I went over an overpass I spun out. I had slowed to exactly 60 miles an hour and as I reached the top of the overpass the back end spun out from under me and I realized I was heading straight toward the railing(the overpass was built on a curve). I did a 180, bounced off the guardrail, slid down the sloping, grassy shoulder. The dirt from skidding completely covered the driver side window and as I got out in the pouring raining, amazed I cheated death, fearful my baby was totaled, I looked for damage. None. I went to the other side. None. I looked closer at the back. A small dent at the back left corner 6 inches tall 3 inches deep. God must like Mr2s. Some things about the car. First I had NO big expensive problems. If your leath! er wheel or shift starts to unravel just take off the leather. The wheel and shifter underneath are the stock parts for the 85 Mr2. My alternator went out twice. If you got a VERY quiet rattle coming from the center of the dashboard it may be the front trunk latch. The clutch was replaced twice, the second time the clutch felt weak like after the first time the clutch replaced. I took it back to the mechanic and he agreed to install more parts on the clutch. I don’t know how the clutch works except it is hydraulic and not a cable clutch so if you get a new clutch you may want to know what your mechanic will do before you go in. Love my car but selling it this summer(Lubbock, TX). One last thing. Don’t let your tires go bald.
Tue Jan 27 21:32:16 1998 Ronnie Viola II (houasc32-100.flash.net) My name is Amy and my boyfriend, Ronnie, is the one with the Toyota MR2 turbo. It's loaded with t-tops, cd player, and leather interior. His MR2 is a '92 model which he bought a year ago for $13,000 with only 46,000 miles on it. Not bad, eh? Other spec's included 17" Gerwalt rims (17x8 front, 215/45 and 17x9 back, 225,45). Right now, modifications include the usual filter and exhaust, EVC, blow off valve and turbo timer. Anything else you'd have to ask him personally. Anyway, quick quetion: Anybody out there from Houston? It seems that MR2's are damn near extinct and Ronnie is really interested in setting up or joining an MR2 club here. It seems that Houston is almost overrun with Civics, CRX's, Integra's and Mustangs--what do they know about cars? Anyhow, keep the love alive and see ya MR2 geniuses later!
Tue Jan 27 22:13:42 1998 Paul brauckmann (ww-tp01.proxy.aol.com) Thanks for your efforts on this web site.
Wed Jan 28 00:18:24 1998 Chris Mulvena (linux.netcentral.co.nz) I have owned my August 1990 Mk11 Turbo for the last 12 months. Car was imported second hand from Japan. Great machine at least it was until the turbo packed a sad. Apparently a new ceramic turbo is worth NZ$2,700 - Any bright ideas?
Wed Jan 28 00:35:59 1998 Jon Allen (host77-142.airnet.net) Very impressed with your site! Purchased 93 Turbo this past week... your page has given me some insight as to what I've got my hands on. Thanks, Jon
Wed Jan 28 15:00:04 1998 Matthew Rosenberg (207-172-160-137.s10.as3.ftw.erols.com) My cousin, Joe Pearlstein of Philadelphia, is a second generation MR2 owner. He might have convinced me to move into one during my next purchase (10/98). Love the yellow!
Wed Jan 28 15:30:03 1998 Glenn jones (tnt01-60.n-link.com) I have 3 MK1's. Witness the ressurection !!!!!!!!!!! After buying all three @ $500 each. With varing degrees of engine problems two are now running and 1 is for parts. One of them had the crankshaft broken in three pieces and the engine still ran.( sounded like a coffee can full of 3/8's bolts). I really enjoy my cars but need to sell one to finish the other one i intend to keep for ever !!! MISTER TWO'S R US
Wed Jan 28 17:27:50 1998 Bernd Rippold (p404fab.DO.dip.t-online.de) Guess what car this is : You can completely forget all about breaking- Just hammer along the AUTOBAHN-Exit with 120 km/h and don´t break ! You´ll get the turn perfectly right ! - It is the MR 2! But please be always prepared to hack the clutch immediately and continue steering very carefully if the back of your car tries to "overtake you" some day. - Very fine car.
Wed Jan 28 18:42:32 1998 Dan Wetherbee (erchh001.nt.com) I've owned my '86 MR2, Normally Aspirated (NA), Automatic Transmission, fully stock since November and have put 4,000 miles on it. It just went over the 100,000 mile mark. What a pleasure to drive. I commute to work everyday as well as any other little errand I can think of to run in it. My wife & I have 11 children so we use this car for our weekly date as well as teaching the 15 year olds how to drive. I would love to buy another MR2. I live in Denver, Colorado, USA.
Thu Jan 29 13:08:38 1998 Kevin Grimaldi (rm215a-2.dsl.fsu.edu) I just bought a 92 turbo and I'm interested in pushing it to its limits. Anybody with any ideas? Also, I am interested in meets in the Florida or Southeast U.S. area. Anybody out there? What does everone suggest as far as air intake, exhaust and plug wires? Thanks, Kevin

Thu Jan 29 20:09:25 1998 David Morrison (ww-tp01.proxy.aol.com) Thanks to all that have responded to my entry re overheating problem. Problem finally solved, new head gasket, among other things amounting to $1700. Now I have a perfectly running 86 MK1. Spring has already arrived in Houston, so I think I'll open the sunroof, and go play with my toy!!
Fri Jan 30 01:09:37 1998 ROBERT HAILEY (dns-gw.cyberramp.net) GREAT SITE, OWNER OF 93 MR2
Fri Jan 30 14:31:38 1998 Randy Garrison (ww-tn02.proxy.aol.com) Hello everybody in MR2 land! I've had my '93 for one month now and I'm at a crossroads with it. I love the car, don't get me wrong but it is terribly too slow. My last car was a Mustang and I guess it probably spoiled me. So what I've been working on the past few weeks is an engine swap. I've already found the engine my biggest problem is going to be finding a '97-'98 V-6 Camry manual transmission. My teamleader bought a '97 ES-300 and the worst thing happened to it...it was totaled while parked on the street. Anyway, I found out where the car was taken and have made arrangements to buy the engine but the few people who bought V-6 manual Camry's...could someone please wreck it and call me. Again, don't get me wrong I love the camry. If it wasn't for someone having to build it I wouldn't have a job. If you couldn't already tell I work at the georgetown plant where the camry, avalon and sienna are built so I have the means to take engine measurements before the drivetrain is put into the cars and there is not any problem with it fitting. This only makes me wonder why Toyota didn't put a V-6 in this car... I guess the turbo 4 was plenty enough. The only thing that concerns me now is if there are aftermarket parts for the 3.0 V-6 but I guess 200 hp out of a normally aspirated engine that is in an MR2 should be good enough....nah, too much is never enough. From me here in Camry country have a great day...love the website. Communication is key so the more we tell each other about our love affairs with these cars the more we can learn

Fri Jan 30 16:10:19 1998 David Rodabaugh (198.200.168.10) Well, let's try this thing again... I own an American mid-80's competitor of the MR2, and while I cannot tell my friends this usually, I have always admired the MR2, especially the MkII. (I can't say the name; I got bounced with the last attempt...) While I have no desire to lose my space-framed, plastic bodied cars, I do enjoy the rivalry. It is good to see your Internet support is as good as ours. Keep up the fight!
Fri Jan 30 18:25:31 1998 Gary (208.199.232.242) Like Bill Clinton I am going to give in to my lust. Mine happens to be owning a Mk I MR2. My 1970 datsun 510 has 300K+ on the odo, needs a new head gasket, and keeps rusting out from underneath me. I need a fun drive that will be as reliable as my 510 was in its prime. I'm looking for a pristine Mk I in S.E. Texas. If you are selling yours, contact me.
Fri Jan 30 19:31:13 1998 Armando Perez (re-104-42.read.indiana.edu) Hey all...just thought Id sign the guest book, I havent done so since I first joined the list. If anyone wants to talk about mr2s drop me a line above. Ive got an '86 N/A light blue nicknamed the "blue bird"....dont mock the name! it flies!!! check out more about the car...kind of outdated.....at the USA, Indiana section of Whos Who! Keep the shiny side up! and remember.... Dogs love trucks...but chicks dig Mr2s!:-)
Sat Jan 31 01:31:38 1998 Jim Cutter (spider-to03.proxy.aol.com) I have previously owned 2 MR2's and loved them both. I had an red 86 with 5 speed and thought it was fantastic until I drove a black 88 Supercharged 5 speed with all the bells and whistles. I bought in on the spot. Trouble was that it was stolen 8 months later and I never saw it again but I enjoyed every one of the 20,000 plus miles I put on it. I was going to buy another MR2 three years ago but bought an 88 Corolla GTS (back seat for the kids) with the same 4AGE engine. I'm looking for any one else that has added a supercharger or turbocharger system to a GTS. I've done alot of mods already but want more power! I've added 16" wheels with 205/45R16 Yokohama AVS tires, Eibach springs, Tokico shocks, upgraded brakes (rotors, pads, braided lines), Jacobs Electronics ignition, 50hp nitrous kit (which is fun!), ceterforce dual friction clutch, Hotshot headers, HKS exhaust system, and of course a great sound system. The car has 120,000 miles on it and it as strong as ever. Please e! mail me if you have any information for me or would like to know of these upgrades for your GTS or MR2. Thanks.
