I think it would be cool if a section is to added here for "how to do it yourself" maintenance or repairs on 1991 and up MR2s. For example: how to replace brake pads or how to clean throttle bodies.

Hi, I have an 85 mr2 and it was a great car but its seen better days. The engine works like a charm but the body is starting to rust. It needs a new fuel pump. I'm not prepared to put the money into it so its up for sale. Best offer will be accepted if interested please contact me at hisc@nbnet.nb.ca or by phone (506) 488-2630. Make sure you ask for Mark.

I have a 91 T-Top N/A with 60K on it with a few modifications, I like almost everything about this car; from the low front bumper to the side way ferrari look alike and the aggressive dual tip exhaust(HKS). I just could not wait any longer to own a '94 or'95 model Turbo with a new spoiler and rear lights. Just wondering how is it feel like to drive a 94 or 95 Turbo.

I just bought a 93 beautiful black MR2! I love it. It's mine and my husbands daily driver, our baby to our 97 Ferrari F355 GTS! There are too any similarities to mention! When I bought my MR2, I found a great deal, `it only had 10k miles on it, and now only 13k! I went on my first MR2 rally this past weekend in N.M. and it was a blast!

Was wondering if anybody knew where I could get my hands on
TRD headers for a N/A 91' MR2 ? Most of the places I called
don't carry them anymore and TRD stopped making them. I don't
really know any others that really make good headers for my
car so any info would be appreciated... Thanks.

At one point I owned a '91 MKII which was totalled within a few short weeks of purchase. I sucessfully avoided all other cars and managed to collide only with the center divide (thanks to the superior handleing of the car no doubt) I will never meet the person responsible for my crash, so i assume that it was just fate telling me to drive a carolla instead. well... after 1 year and 45K hard earned miles on my carolla, I am once again ready to own one of the finest machines ever created. If things go as planned I should aquire a '93 NA Red MR2 with 70K miles on it, and hopefully many more ahead of it. I hope to find kinship with fellow owners in the LA area.

Just bought a red 85 MR2 from the original owner and I am loving this car! Summer is almost here and I can't wait for the serious road trips that we'll be taking. I am currently in the process of convincing my wife the "safety" value of performance springs and tires for it. Also, friends with SUV's are a must have! Someone needs to haul our camping gear! I Love to hear MkI stop light grand prix stories, will have a few myself, shortly.

I purchased a used 1986 MR@ about three years ago. It needed some mechanical work - mostly gearbox and power windows, pluse a little body work and a lotof TLC. All has been completed now, except for body and paint. I really enjoy the motorcar, except for working on the engine -need 16 joints in each arm and eyeballs on my fingettips, but its still the best sports car I've ever had. 189,000 miles on the clock and I still get better than 35 mpg on the interstate at 75mph+. I like the body style on the newer ones, but will keep my wedgie pocket rocket until it goes out for good on me, hopefully not for many years to come. Buck Massie

Malcolm Roy Massie, Jr. (51.pensacola-01.fl.dial-access.att.net)
I bought a used 1986 MR2 a couple of years ago. It needed som mechanical work - mostly gearbox and power windows - and a lot of TLC/light body work and paint - silver bronze. I bought a rebuilt transaxle and had it installed by Mr. Transmission. Have done a lot of other work on the car courtesy of a Haynes manual and the Toyota authorized shop manual, available at any Toyota dealer for about $35. All is done now except for a complete repainting. I have 189,000 miles on the clock and still get 35mpg at 75mph+ on the interstate, and the heads have never been off. Owners manual recommends change out of the timing belt at 80,000 miles if you do a lot of stop and go driving - that's bs. Mine went at 50,000 and I drive it a lot at high speed for long trips. I really like the newer body styles, but will hang onto my wedge-shaped pocket rocket until it goes belly up on me - hopefully not for a long time. Drive safe. Buck Massie

I have a 1993 N/A with 35000 miles. I have converted over to the 94 tail lights and the turbo hood(one day I would like to get a turbo engine for the car.). All of the black mouldings on the car have been painted to match the color of the body, RED!!! (I highly recommend this!) My MR2 is lowered has bilstien shocks, a TRD short shift kit and many other goodies... I have a simular noise in my front suspension when I go over rough roads, I think that it is a clearance problem between the steering rack and the lower suspension support arm. (remember, my car is lowered 1 inch, so this might have something to do with it.)Long live the MR2!!!!

My MR2 is a 1991. It has 40,000 miles and is white. In the side vents are neon tubes that glow and the back of the license plate is also neon but it is to the back, not front, just showing a glow. It really stands out in a crowd! I am looking for replacement floor mats for my blue interior. Any help would do. I do want the ones that have MR2 embroidered in the mats. Thanks and it took me 2 years to find my car. When I found it, the previous owner said "You won't drive this in the rain will you?" I bought it on the spot.

Bought the car almost a week ago. It is so fast it's almost unreal and the fun is limitless. I've just found out that the rear o/s suspension has been damaged in an accident and will cost a bit of dosh - but it's worth it, just for the fun.

Hello fellow owners of the 2. I, like most of you am in love with this car.
I have an 85 and have owned two others before it both mkI models. There are many performance upgrades I would like to make to my machine but need info and
the money to do it. Currently I am experiencing transmission problems; clutch works but the tranny will not disengage. Does anyone know a tranny expert in
the Denver Colorado area. Thank You -----------"Fast" Eddie Smith

I am looking for headers for my MR2 5sfe cant seem to find any.
Why does'nt Japan use the 5sfe?
Why did they dump this engine on us?
I have alot of Option Magazines from japan and I have never seen

Any body know if Toyomoto R has a web site?

Rodney, Call up John Broderick at MR2 Performance Products. He will build you a header out of stainless steel (or cheap mild steel if that is what you really want, not recommended). He is also working on a turbo kit to bring our 5SFE engines back to life. He is a good guy.... mention me. Drive safe

I bought a 88 MR 2, t-tops three years ago. It now has l43,000 miles. Still runs great with just regular maintenance. Looking forward to many more miles. To Jeremy, about the TRD headers you are looking for. Try Mr.2 Performance Products. 303-781-2724. They drive and race MR 2's and make their own performance parts.

Found this useful info off another MR2 site - just wondered anyone tried this and can confirm it does work ?
When drivin' around with the small lights on, and give a flash-signal, you will come to the irritating conclusion, that the headlights will pop up, but not will go down automaticly. The only remedy, is to turn off the lights completely, wait till the headlights go down, and then turn on the small lights again.
Thanx to a tip of a technical member of the German-sister club, this fault can be easily set to its rights. It's only for the 2.0 versions, but maybe it's intersting for the 1.6 owners as well.
Open the front of the car and remove the spare wheel and the plastice surrounded by it. Move the blue box of it's place, and cut the red wire left under the plug (pin number 6). Isolate the two wire-ends and U will notice, the headlights will now turn back automaticly.

I have a 93 turbo and it's turquoise! Here are some of the modifications: turbo upgraded, HKS EVCIII, Greddy turbo timer, typeS blow-off value, fuel-cut defenser & exhuast, K&N air filter, NGK wires & plugs, ST springs, Tokico adj. shocks, Tom's bodykits & side modeling, clear corners, Razo shift & pedals, Autometer boost meter, 16x8 Stern 3pcs and 205/45 front, 225/45 rear. Feature upgrades? May be a bigger inter-cooler and a new tail light set. That would be it, I already sent too much money on it.

I think the MR2 is a really fantastic car. I drive more than 30.000 miles a year with many other cars, but when i come bach from a long week out of the office and with a firm car on tour, i have a nice car, which drives fast and which makes a lot of fun. I think its the best deal this time to buy an MR2. Here in Germany it is getting more expensive to drive old cars, because they think that they made a lot of noise and so you'll have to pay more than 300$ to the state. I hope that there are more MR2 fan's outside this net. I'll hope that anyone could contact me, because I search someone who knows the MR2 problem with the brakes and the nervousity by breakin in the wheel.
Yours Daniel
MR2 Owner since 2 Years.

Hi! to every fellow MR2 owners.I bought my mr2 about 5 months ago and I gotta say what a car!My particular model is a mk11 GT import direct from the rising sun.It came with the Autopista body kit and Forgman rear end, since having it I have made a few modifications to make it even more of thrill to drive it.
It now has 17 inch mommo alloys, lowered suspension,HKS induction system,HKS exhaust system, superchip speed delimiter, and a whole load of other stuff.
Anyway nice to visit a great website and keep enjoying your MR2's!!!!!!

I just joined the fraternity of MR2 brothers, as of 5/28/98! My MR2 is a 1989 super-white MKI N/A AT w/just about everything except leather, CC, and alarm. The car is a two-owner NC vehicle nearing 130K, but is in very good condition for the mileage. It does need the infamous steering rack bushing replacement, however. The previous owner just replaced all four shock absorbers, replaced the muffler, and aligned all four wheels the first of this year, though (I know, I have the receipts)! I love what you do for me, Toyota!

I've owned my 93 Turbo for almost two years, it has 36K on the ticker. When I bought it was bone stock and since then I've invested about $6k in mods. Mostly performance, but a few cosmetic, such as '95 tailights, '97 Japanese corner lenses, and white face gauges from NR. Performance mods are extensive, HKS intake, FCD, EVC IV, Turbo Timer, Nology power core and Hot wires, Greddy intercooler and exhaust. S.P.A.L. intercooler fan, Brembo crossdrilled rotors, R-90 Compound Brake pads(They need to heat up first, but can stop this car from 60 in 98 feet!!!), H&R lowering springs, Tokico 5-way Strut inserts. Full set of Energy Suspension bushings(big difference!), and 17" enkei RP-02 Wheels with 215/40 Yoko A520s front and 235/40 Yoko A032Rs on the rear. And speaking of those, Way sticky!!!! Believe it or not it is hard to get the tail loose in a corner with these tires!! with this set and those tires, I've measured up to 1.12g cornering force with my G-Tech in a parking lot.!
And they're forgiving at the limits! Looks like they're going to last about 3K though!! Almost worth it if you really like to go REAL fast on the twisties!! I've done all of the mods myself so any questions or comments are certianly welcome. Long live the MR2!!!
