Hy, friends of MR2,
I´m just a stupid german, and I owned more then 80 cars, MR2 is the one and only.
My 85´MR2 has now 180.000 km left, no problems, i need too much tires, but, hey no problems with that.
Are there any friends of MR2 to talk to, or to meet in Europe ?

I've had a 91T for a couple of months now - it kicks all ass known to man. Unfortunately it's got a lot of paint chips on the hood and tree-sap marks on the roof. Maybe some day I'll have enough money to get it repainted - maybe I'll get an aero kit at the same time so it looks like Mark Sink's but instead of white it'll be British Racing Green Metallic (or the same Aquamarine Pearl it is now).

Jeff (my friend) and i installed thefuel tank and connected the bizillion vent and fuel lines. Got gas and put it in the tank..........The car is on Jack stands so we could work. Installed the exhaust. Put the battery in and started the engine for the first time...Not agood thing. This engine ruuns so rough i cant believe it.........And smoke my god..after it warmed up it smoothed out some and smoked even worse.....Push the car outside.opened the tank drain...Hand me the matches......More to come

Wow, what an informative site! I am 18 and am looking to buy my first sports car. At first I was undecided on whether I should go for the MR2 Turbo(mkII), Eagle Talon Turbo AWD, or a Corrado VR6; but after reading about all the MR2 and it's mid-engine design has to offer, I am now a die-hard mister2 fan. Hopefully we will see this car reintroduced into the North American marketplace.
PS-Modern American muscle sucks!

I am the new owner of an old MR2. My car is of 1984 vintage (as I am living in Japan) and it is in excellent condition with just over 35,000 km on it. I think all MR2s look great, but I particularly like the MK1 design because of its uniqeness. There's no salt over here during the winter so car bodies fare pretty well, much like they do in California.
This is a great web site and I have already accessed it several times and gleaned some very useful information. Thanks very much.

To Chris D; I wish you the best of luck in your quest for tire smokin giant slayin HP! It's a shame there are'nt many MK1's at the strip which seems strange considering its ideal mid-engine, rear drive configuration(top fuel cars share this layout). Also this is a great site ! Ive learned alot about my 88 Mr2 here.

I love all the info provided by this site! I have found many items I was unable to find without it. These cars are totally amazing. I wanted to buy one in late 1990 when the new 1991 came out, but found myself a little short on funds! I finally bought one in 1996 exactlly like the one I tried to buy in 1990(white turbo 5spd, cd, t-tops, blue int. SWEET RIDE)FINALLY GOT HER, WON'T SELL HER EITHER! Been asked many times. Keep up the great job, I visit daily.

Hello all,
I own a '92 MR2 na. I am considering installing the K&N Filtercharger kit into my car. K&N claims that there is a 25-35 horsepower increase. That seems to be somewhat extreme. I am looking for anyone who has actually installed the filtercharger kit (not simply replaced the stock filter with a K&N replacement) and has seen (or not) any noticable improvement in performance. Thanks.
Michael.

Steve Peters (spider-tr041.proxy.aol.com)
Here is my story:
My wife and I just completed an 8,900 mile lap around America in our 1987 Toyota MR2. When we reached Oklahoma it was 106 degrees out side. I turned on my AC and it blew semi-cool air for a little bit and progressively got warmer. I started hearing some grumbling from the engine bay so I shut down the AC and the grumbling stopped. I figured the system was low with R12. We drove on with out the AC.
To make a long story short, When we reached Ohio, my father-in-law, serviced my AC system. He is certified. When took our first pressure readings both the high & low sides were steadily climbing in pressure. Neither one of the electric cooling fans came on. In the nine months I have owned this car I have never heard the fans come on. When the high side hit 300 psi (mind you, we haven't started servicing yet, we were just getting a pressure reading) we shut it down. The condenser was hot (no kidding). The pressure started dropping quickly; nothing broke lose or popped. We focused our attention to the cooling fans. Using the Toyota service manual, we checked all of the fan relays and they all checked good. We then moved to the radiator temp. sensor. We unplugged it and switched the ignition on and both fans kicked on. So far everything was working as it should. We shut off the ignition, plugged the sensor back in and switched the ignition back on. Both fans kicked on again. Now !
they will not shut off no matter what we do. We went ahead and took another AC pressure reading and the high side was just below 200 psi. It was serviced up to specs. and the vent air temp. was at 40 degrees, nice and cold.
To be cont.
Sat Jul 11 19:21:34 1998
Steve Peters (spider-tr041.proxy.aol.com)
The AC works fine, no more grumbling, but the fans will not shut off. Both the radiator and the condenser fan run continuously when the ignition is on. The only way I can get them to shut off is to pull the fan relay. If I pull the condenser fan relay the condenser fan doesn’t run (duh) and visa-versa with the radiator fan relay. Pulling the main relay shuts down both fans. The temp. sensor plugged in or not has no effect on the fans. I finished the trip back to Washington state with the fans running at all times and using the AC as needed. The only problem I had was a loss of anti-freeze some where in Montana that caused me to stop and bleed the cooling system and top it off. It didn't lose any more coolant after that so I attribute the coolant loss to the brief 120 mph run in Montana.
That is my story and now my questions; Does anyone have an idea as to why the fans will not shut off? or, Why they didn't run until I unplugged my temp sensor? Any ideas will be welcomed.
Thanks, c141mrt@aol.com

Great Site! Here's my question to anyone out there who might have an idea: I have a '91 Crimson Red Turbo Sunroof, and I just bought some '93 Supra Turbo wheels (F8"x17" and R9.5"x17) , and I'm looking for a way to fit them without the inside lip and/or tire rubbing the lower strut housing. I talked wih Brad Bedell briefly on how he made his Supra wheels fit (narrowing them .5") - but the cost is prohibitive to narrow them, and there is no one I know of in the Peoria, Il area who will do it anyway. My question is, anybody know someplace I can buy .5" spacers and studs to make them fit??? Thanks in advance for the input!

MR2's are the most under appreciated car ever made. My dream car woud be to take the look of a Ferrari 348, with simlar performance, that I can drive everyday, and still afford to buy. The Mark II MR2 is just that. I've owned a 91 N/A for 5 years and now I am finally ready to move to a 93 or newer.
Is there any movement to bring the current MR2 back to the US? The MRS is nice, but a different animal.

As a honda (acura) NSX owner, I have always been impressed by the 1988 Mr2's
turn in and handling, and when you look into the cost of modifying the NSX for a little track &club work then the supercharged aw11 model looks like THE choice! So now I'm looking for one at the right price.

Nice site. I wasted all my money buying my MR2 so I'm sorry to say I can't do any of the mods I read on your wonderful website. But I still piss on all V-8's and that's what counts to me.

I now own a 1985 mark! MR2, I have wanted one since 1985 when I first seen one. It's red( sloppy job but keeps the rust away) with momo rims. 164856km. I also own a 85 corrola SR5 RWD. I guess I'm a toyotaddict. Sick of the Honda scene(check out a site called Rice boy page fu**ing funny and true) I'm having some trouble getting onto the mailing lists (not a computer genius or mr2 genius for that matter) any info on MR2 's would be greatly appreciated from anyone. love the site , love the car, Happy MR2'n

well i have bought an mr2 from 1987 and i am wery satisfied with the car but i would like to get a little more power in my car it has got an 1600 gti twincan engine with 124 horsepower but i am trying to get an turbocharged engine in the car but its quite difficult to find an engine so if anybody knows where i can get an engine then please e-mail me. But still when the engine is an 16oo gti twincan you can go fast with it, i have driven 220 kph but i would like to get it to 240 or 250 kph a little crazy i know but the engine is the most important in a car i think.
well if anybody knows an engine then e-mail me

I've been a MR2 owner 2 years. Recently I did something real stupid ! Left the ignition switch on and drained the battery. "No problem" you say, well in this case, my radio went south on me. The security feature will not allow me to have access to the radio. I forgot the 3 didget code that I put in when I first got the car. Called the dealer and they want 60 bucks to fix it. Has anyone out there ever experienced this. Probably not anyone that stupid out there. If you can help, sure would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Oh! I have a 91' non-turbo,black. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks for a dose of MR-2 loyalty. No thanks from my two giant dogs, who would like me to trade for an 18-wheeler, so they could tag along. I bought my '88 MR-2 brand new, keep waiting for it to die, but it refuses. 110K and kicking. I treated it to new AC (R134a to replace Freon), new paint (courtesy of a couple of fender-benders), many tires. Somewhere in the oil pan, there's a dipstick that broke off at 50-60K, but clever Mister Two has no doubt turned it into public sculpture. Of late, I'm slightly hypnotized by the cobalt blue Honda CRV (I think the dogs are drugging me), so this visit helps. Take care.

I have admired the MR2 ever since my friend took me for a ride. I now have an 88 supercharged MkI and I am in heaven. Anytime I am asked about cars, the MR2 is the first I mention. I have nothing but good things to say about this beautiful machine. Thank you Toyota, but please, consider returning the MR2 to North America for all the people who haven't experienced this car yet. To those who own them... consider yourselves extremely lucky, you could be driving those Pontiacs we can't mention here! Haha! Anyone who wants to chat about these cars, don't hesitate to E-mail me.

Mine is an '88. I love my car. Some drunk person just smashed it up. It's gonna cost more than they say it's worth to fix. Gotta pay outta my own pocket. New parts would be better... used parts, less expensive. Would I get rid of my husband if he broke his leg, just becuz he was old? Well maybe, but never my car!
