Tue Sep 1 05:06:10 1998 Andrew (j21.sgw43.jaring.my) I own a 1997 MR2, bought in Melbourne, Australia. I am now working in Malaysia, and was told by friends that there's an import duty to bring the car over to Malaysia. Is there anyone who knows what the laws are, and/or anyone experienced bringing their car from overseas. The car was bought in May 1997. On a diffreent note, the car is a dream to drive. It hugs the road like glue, and yet responses like a panther. Many thanks

Wed Sep 2 13:10:01 1998 Andy (nap3-port02.ntso.com) hello. I have a 1991 turbo with 130000 miles. the head gasket blew out on it, and it dumped coolant all over my driveway. does anyone know how to change the head gasket? is it at all possible without removing the engine? the dealer won't quote me an exact price, but they said it would cost a lot. ALSO>>> how hard is it to pull a turbo, rebuild it, and reinstall it? any input is greatly appreciated and more than welcome. thank you. Andy S. ps... I am going through mr2 withdrawl..help me soon.
Wed Sep 2 17:19:25 1998 dave (spider-ta034.proxy.aol.com) I THINK THE MR2 MARK 1 T,BAR IS THE BEST SMALL SPORTS CAR GOING CHEAP ,FUN AND EVERY ONE YOU PASS WILL TURN AND LOOK AS YOU PASS THEM, YOUNG AND OLD. "COOL"

Wed Sep 2 21:34:04 1998 Vince (spider-wj031.proxy.aol.com) What's up MR2ers!!! I've wanted one of these babys since before I even had a permit-and I'm finally getting one tommorow. It's a black '89 with 90,000 miles and too much custom work done to list. I don't even care about custom exaust and all that jazz. It's simply a beautiful car! Can't wait to drive it home!
Thu Sep 3 14:49:12 1998 Kim (165.79.14.198) I have a 1991 Turbo T-top with 76,500 miles. I bought the car used 5 months ago, and I've put only 3,000 miles on it. The car is going through oil like there's no tomorrow. I had an oil consumption test done at the dealer; it's going through a quart every 675 miles. Now they're going to do a bunch of tests to see what they need to do next. Sounds expensive; thank God I bought that extended warranty! Has anybody else had this problem? I need any advice/insight I can get. Thank you.

Sat Sep 12 22:13:51 1998 Steve (spider-tl044.proxy.aol.com) I love my car. I own a black 1993 MR2 non turbo with 83,000 miles on it. I've added a TRD short shift kit, TRD clutch, and a HKS super flow air intake. The intake realy does make a difference in power and the sound is awesome. I'm thinking about buying a TRD strut tower brace for the back since the front already has one. Does anyone know if it's worth buying? And are there any other fairly cheap mods for the 5S-FE engine?
Sat Sep 12 22:23:03 1998 francisco pagan (gateway1.caribe.net) After a timing belt replacement, the engine have a noice apparently from the exhaust valve train, specifically at 1800 to 2000 RPM range, no noice is detected at different RPM range. The engine rans perfectly otherwise. I suspect that a camshaft have a lateral movement or the like. Let me have your comments. Thanks. Fax to (787) 841-4685.
Sat Sep 12 23:30:19 1998 Ben Morales (rsc029.rutgers.edu) I loved my first car. I had to say goodbye to it because I made a mistake.
Mon Sep 14 10:06:39 1998 Lisa Holt (193.164.180.225) I bought my husband an old shape MR2 as a birthday present and thought I would just check out the web site to see if there was any useful information for him in improving his MR2 - hopefully you'll be useful to me (and him) either now or in the future. Thanks.
Mon Sep 14 21:50:11 1998 TNGUYEN (cdref24.opac.csuohio.edu) Timing belt replace? 91 MR2 T-Top N/A, in a Great shape and just turned 69K miles on the clock, engine look and run extremly smooth and clean, no strange noise was found from the engine what so ever at any given speed and RPM including at the Redline. Minor modification for the engine and other parts. Could I be able to keep this timing belt for about 100K miles..any advise....thanks.
Tue Sep 15 18:03:29 1998 Shawn (emersonele-bh.emrsn.com) Steve, I recommend very highly that you buy the TRD strut tower brace (that goes for ALL N/A MK2 car owners)! If you do any hard driving you will notice MUCH IMPROVED steering response and rear-end control, especially if you have lowered your car. Even turbo owners benefit from the bars, but not as much, since they already have a weaker version in the engine bay (I bought one off a turbo for my '93 N/A). As for mod's.... check out John Broderick's MR2 Performance Products (He is VERY helpful, MR2pp.com) for some good ignition and the ever needed camshaft improvement as well as some exhaust systems. Also, he is willing to fabricate a much-needed header for the 5SFE, I wish I could afford the expense. If you go with an improved exhaust, a larger throttle body will help (since you have the intake already), and doing all of it would bring the 5SFE to life. Good luck and leave your E-MAIL address next time!!

Fri Sep 18 15:24:48 1998 Ben Fisher (spider-wa073.proxy.aol.com) Did you know?: Professional sporstcar racing (IMSA) sanctions a pro road racing series which uses spec cars built from 1st gen MR2 donors. The bodies are fiberglass and look nothing like street cars, but almost all of the running gear is slightly modified 85-89 toyota. Motors are SC 4AG converted to NA Weber carbs and are restricted to 155 hp. The cars must weigh 1500lb w/ driver, and the races are televised on Speedvision. Anual budget to compete in the 10 race series is about $50K. And doesn't Toyota do a great job of publicizing this? ;) Check it out @ www.sportstoyota.com or e-mail me for more info (I'll try to sell you one). Fisher367@aol

Mon Sep 21 20:03:27 1998 Adam Singer (spider-tk024.proxy.aol.com) I just bought a '92 Turbo MR2 from the original woman owner. The car has been babied with only 65K miles and was never or will never be driven in rain or snow. The car is Crimson Red and has a sunroof, CD Player, and the power package. The paint is flawless and I've added a factory front mask, new floor mats, full tune-up, and a K&N Air Filter. I plan to install a GREDDY exhaust system and possibly a EVC to turn up the boost. I paid $9,500 for the car at a local dealership got a 2yr/24K Mile warranty and all the original receipts and paper work from the original owner who lives about 5 miles from me. Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

Tue Sep 22 19:33:25 1998 April Schilling (gdialup27.phnx.uswest.net) I would just like to say MR-2's are the best. I have a 1989 MR-2 that I bought in 1990. It's still in great shape, people comment on how shiny it still is and there is 134,690 miles (very low maintenance) on it plus you can't beat getting 34 miles to a gallon of gas.
Wed Sep 23 14:49:16 1998 Stacie (1Cust61.tnt21.lax3.da.uu.net) I bought a gorgeous red 1991 MR2 last night and I know I made the right choice, already I love love LOVE this car! Looks fabulous inside and out, so much fun to drive, and of course the compliments just haven't stopped coming my way....
Wed Sep 23 17:20:12 1998 Jason Howell (spider-tm073.proxy.aol.com) I am an MR2 owner of three years now and have had nothing but good times with it. I am now in the process of repplacing the engine and doing some other custom changes to the vehicle. I am glad that there is a place like this on the web, it has given me a lot of useful information and found me an engine.
Wed Sep 23 22:12:27 1998 Joe Amaya (max106.ies.net) I own a 88 MR2 with omni-magnum ignition. I special ordered 4 Dunlop SP8000's (195/55ZR)from Sears last week. This is the only Z-rated tire for 14inch wheels that I know of. I cant wait to put them on. The tires I have now are some cheap brand the previous owner put on. They have no grip and have seen better days. This is my 2nd MR2(my first one was an 87) and not my last(would like to get a clean SC someday). okay im mr2 nuts but these cats are too much fun!

Fri Sep 25 08:10:45 1998 Herma (k2ms073.dial.kabelfoon.nl) I own a 1.6 from 1987 with T-bar roof and leather. There aren't many, originally Dutch imported, MR2 1.6 with these options, I was told there were only five imported like mine. It is absolutley fun to drive. I have had a Janspeed exhaust put under, and of course, a K&N open airfilter. Together it produces a great sound while driving. I just love it. I regulary drive my fathers 2.0, it's a beautifull car, but he agrees with me that the 1.6 gives more driving pleasure than the 2.0.
Fri Sep 25 16:09:50 1998 Patrick Flahive (165.orlando-06.fl.dial-access.att.net) This website and the FAQ have been superb. I'm pleased to have discovered it. My only frustration (and not with this site) I can't seem to be able to find replacement seats, carpets, and products like that without going to used parts. Owning a 10 year old Japanese car seems to be a hassle.

Tue Sep 29 09:06:56 1998 Terrence Mar (p25-max6.akl.ihug.co.nz) I just recently got an MR2 Turbo MK II. Such an excellent car, wait till I starting doing mods to it.. it will cost more than it's worth...
Tue Sep 29 23:56:28 1998 Joe Biello (pm5-s15.colba.net) A junior Ferrari 348tb is what the MK2 portrays at a fraction of the cost! I own a 91 white 2.2L non-turbo MR2 and I wouldn`t trade it for anything; not even for a Turbo. Why? Because it still is peppy and gets great gas milage (550 km city driving in a 54 litre tank). Also, it has such a distinct deep exhaust rumble that the 2.0L MR2 Turbo does not have and cannot have even with expensive free-flow exhaust systems. For all you MR2 2.2L owners: if you`re thinking of spending a 1000$ or so on a "high-end" exhaust system such as a Greddy or HKS, don`t! Save you`re money and get a Nakayama Sports air filter (50$) and a MagnaFlow free-flow muffler (also made for the Camaro) for a mere 290$ Canadian dollars (installed!) and you will be amazed at the sound of acceleration...very deep, loud, mellow, and brauny rumble... like the sound of 4-barrel V8 engine! ...even at minimal throttle! And, as a bonus you`ll even get a few more ponies (10-15 hp) to reach the near-150 hp mark which ! you will definitely feel at higher rpm!

Made by the Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, nobody does it like the Japanese. I love the MR2, the 1.6l twin-cam 16 valve shows what performance is all about. One of Toyota's best vehicles ever made. MR2 4 life, don't test the best, nuff respect to TOYOTA!!!!!!!!
