Once again, great site!! I see that nobody can leave the MR2 alone ( and that is great ) and I am among them. I am POWER frustrated with the lack of items that are available for the MKII NA motor to increase output. However, Jeff at Rebel motorsports had been very helpful and has provided some interesting options. Props to him. I have the hots for a 93 turbo if anyone knows of a clean one for sale. I found one here in Houston for about 15K with 64K miles. It looked pretty clean. Anyone have any remarks about that price for the car? I am looking for a lower milage version if anyone knows of one. Just a couple of responses to some messages in the November guestbook. $2500 seems really high for a valve stem seal job. I had Toyota do mine under warranty and they did it in a few hours. I don't think they charged the warranty company near that much. Watch out all of you 5SFE owners! That is a common problem with that motor. I want 16" wheels ( maybe 17" ). Does anyo!
ne know how far down you can safely lower the car and still fit those rims? Have fun and power hard out of the apex!! BrianG Red 92NA

Does anyone have any experience with the "Low-Rise" headlight modification for the MarkII offered by Email: mr2mart@flash.net? The modification is offered in three different ways. The modification and lights look good on the internet but I'm not sure if it looks good in person (up close). The web site can be visited at: www.flash.net/ (mr2mart). Can be found at the bottom of the mr2 main page under "listings" and go until you find the MR2 MART (I think in the 60 of 71 group) listing. Anyway, any advise on this neat looking headlight mod? Thanks, Bob '93 MR2T

My wife and I have been Toyota biggots for years. HOwever we lived in Flagstasff Arizona, not condusive to sports cars. Now we live in Kingman AZ and own a 1985 MR2 and a1987 Supra, (used to have 2 4Runners and a P/U, still have a 91 4Runner.) Love the MR2! Wickedly fast, fun and "Toyota" dependable. Once we sell the 4Runner, we will buy either a MKII MR2 or MKIV Supra. Love this site, a true labor of love and dedication, kudos to those who have sustained this informative and timely site. Thank you from both of us.

I just bought a wrecked '86 MR2 for $300. It'll cost me about $200 to fix. It has the engine of a 89 Corolla GTS with about 60K miles.Who thought you could have a nice sports car for so cheap? The web site is great. I am looking forward to modifying so I'll need advice here and there.

purchased 1993 MR2, (not turbo-charged) in excellent shape. First rear engined sports car. Question, what exhaust system is recommended for this car for performance and sound improvement. Also the car seams to track or "float" sometimes at higher <70mph on the E-way. Is this due to the relatively light weight front end? Does it need an alignment? is this typically for MR2's. Would different tires and wheels help? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hey guys and girls,I've been having a blast in my 92 Mr2 turbo T-top. I want to increase the horse power so if anyone out there has any good tips, please email them to me. any would be appreciated. Also, I've heard of MR2 get togethers, if you know of any, I'd love to attend, I'm a big MR2 believer now that I own one. I've had an IROC and a 76 firebird, neither were as exciting as my MR2.

I have a 1993 Mk.II, black w/black int. The upgrades done so far: Tockico Illumina adj. struts f/r, progressive rate springs, strut tower bracing f/r, increased dia. anti-sway bars. One word to describe the new handling char.: "outstanding!" the improvments transformed the car by taking out all of the "slush-box" characteristics. The short-shifter kit and carbon-metalic brake pads also helped. Ideas for lightened flywheel and new clutch, anyone?

I have recently purchased, in Melbourne Australia, a late '97 red MR2. With only 9000km on the clock at purchase, she is virtually brand new! I love the looks of the car, and the looks she gets. These cars are baby Supercars, and deserve respect both from drivers and non-drivers. I feel it is essential for new owners to research their cars; how they handle, gear changing and what gear to be in for a given corner. Tyre (tire) pressures etc.
Look after these cars and they will look after you with brilliant handling and acceleration. Treat these cars like everyday transport slush-wagons, then you may find they have a sting in their tails.
This is certainly not to be critical of the car. More, it is advice that this is very much a drivers car. Requiring more attentive driving, and perhaps a greater level of skill than a normal everyday car requires.
Personally, I do drive the car everyday! I would'nt have it any other way - but I am always "in" the car, not off dreaming.
To me, this is one of the best affordable performance vehicles, and I love being an owner. I am aware of it's shortcomings, but as my ability increases these shortcomings seem to be getting less and less.
Toyota MR2 - a car which can give the greatest pleasure; a car to love.

I presently have own a green 93 NA MR2.This is my 4th mr2.I had an 86,an 87,and a 91 before my present 93.I love the feel of the older MR2s to my newer ones, but the reliability and styling of the MK2 is what has brought my back to these cars(Ive had a Z and an rx7).
I had the exact same problems with both of my MK1 cars(rods,ac,etc.)but cant seem to hurt the newer type(knock on wood).
The only complaint that I have with the newer NA models is that the handling is very tricky(compared to 50-50 rwd cars) and the engine will not rev very well(compared to most 4 cylinder engines),and of course the engine is very hard to service!
All things aside though this car has more personality than most of the competition and gets great gas mileage and even non-car people like the mini Ferrari looks of the car.
The only question that I have is has anyone ever experienced a vibration in the tires as if they were out of balance when they upgraded to custom wheels?
I put 15" Fitis(15x7)with a 35mm offset and then had brand new tires mounted. This only occurs at certain highway speeds.Any comments would be appreciated.

I have a 91 turbo and have used your site several times to look at the "How to's" and read some of the performance upgrade info. This web site is my only real access to specific upgrade information for my MR2. I would like to thank each and every person that has given up some of their time to post to the site. It has saved me coutless hours making mistakes, taking the wrong thing apart, or upgrading parts that are already suitable. I will try to do my part and post stuff if I learn some useful info that is not already out there.

I have a question to MKII owners that have added body sideskirts to their MR2s. What is the best way to prevent paint damage to the front of the sideskirts at the wheelwell area where the tires kick back grit and rocks? I'm having a bodykit fitted and painted soon and would like to have it done correctly the first time. Is a flex-agent added to the paint any help in preventing paint damage in this area or is there some other method I should use? Thanks for any advice anyone can offer me. I hope all MR2 owners have a joyous and safe holiday season and find lots of MR2 goodies under the tree. Thank you, Bob Crews '93 MR2T

Kurt Smith (vnc1-71.transport.com)
Thanks for the site. I appreciate the work done very much. My car is a 91 NA. I just bought it last week. Someday I will buy my Lotus Seven but I started looking for enjoyable everyday car. Shopping for a Mk1, due to the Lotus heritage but see this Mk2 car listed at a dealer in town. I'm thinking this car is too heavy for me but I had never driven one and it looks good. 53K miles. So we go for a drive and of course the salesman is annoying as hell as we come up the turn to a freeway entrance I want but I am on the wrong side with a line of cars in my way with no room to merge. I figure the salesman will shutup if I get aggressive so I go for it and pass four cars and leave the braking very late.
Yep.
Front engine driver is amazed to see his tail lights gently but firmly passing his smart ass. At least I get the clutch and brakes in once the rear has passed us though we stop. Not wanting to remain long in such a humiliating position I do the best half-Zenardi I can and get us heading back on the intended path. The sales guy starts laughing but then points out not one, but two; cops that have their tale brakes lights all lit up in front of us. As luck would have it though they are both actually on top the freeway overpass and so we casually proceed onto the freeway.
To wrap this up they started asking $11,995. So we go out and smell the car yada, yada and I walk etc. before the "manager" takes $9k. I spent the rest of that night until I learned to jump in it soon as turn in is accomplished. Now I wonder how long I will be enthralled with this sensation. I think the I need a dry-sump ASAP!

One of the things I liked the most about this site, is that it shows the good and bad things that have to do with the old MR2 and the modern MR2.

Am looking for a fun car to drive and autocross (haven't been for years..but it's time to get back into it). Considered a bike for the fun, but not real practical for Illinois weather or idiot drivers! MR2 is great design, with turbo and LSD should be a great small track car. (Go cart with a roof!)..Anyway, your site is great. Lot's of information to ingest. Should give me good information when I find a car in the area to look at.
Thanks.

The MR2 mark II (mark I is pretty cool as well)is my favourite car of all time. I remember the day that I first saw one, it really took me back. I had to just stop and stare.
The great thing about the MR2 is that it is a sports car, but doesn't look over the top and it is fast but not over the top fast.
And because used MR2 prices are so resonable in the UK, I know one day, just one day I will have my own MR2...

Have any MarkII owners erer figured out a way to make the clock and radio lights (readouts) stay on bright when the headlights are on? I like to have my running lights on during the daytime but as a result, I can't see the clock and radio readouts very well. I don't want them to dim. Any help with this?? Thanks, Bob '93 MR2T

This is a great site. The MarkII MR2 is my favorite car. Unfortunately, I don't have one! So, I'm signing this guestbook, hoping that someone will e-mail me with info on an automatic 1991 and up MR2. Silver is a plus! Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanx and keep up the awesome work on this site.

Just purchased a 1988 normally aspirated MR2. The car has 85k miles, and was meticulously maintained by previous owner. I test drove several other cars, and was getting terribly discouraged by the miles, and terrible performance for my pocket book. Then on a whim I asked to test drive the MR2. OMG! The car fit me like no other car before. I love it! VIVA MR2! Take care all...

The more time I spend with my 93T MR2 (The Beast), the more I realize what a truly fantastic machine it is. This is my 74th car and 26th sportscar! After owning many of the worlds "so called" great machines, I have found that there are few that share the build quality, excellence of design, looks, handling and performance of the mk 2 MR2. This is by far the most informative website that I have ever came across. I love this website. What can i say? I drive an MR2 and this website helped me get to know other mr2 owners, learn about the mr2, and helped me enjoy my car to its most full potential. The most valuable resource for the mr2. Thanks for keeping this site, thanks for maintaining this site, and keep up the good work!
