Just going over this site and noticed the following
"Although the MR2 has not been available in North America since 1995, it continues to be manufactured and sold in several countries where the cars are right-hand drive." - note that the MR2 is being sold new in Switzerland (left hand drive) and is in the official Toyota price list.

I've owned an '87 MR2 T-Bar for two years. The best experience was driving over the Nullabor in Australia from WA to Sydney and back (3500km one way!). It's done 170,000km and I can't part with it yet. Great site! Loads of info.

HI FOLKS,
I LIVE IN SOUTH LONDON AND SO I AM OK WITH A RIGHT HAND DRIVE JAPANESE IMPORT. MY CAR IS A '94 TURBO GT T-BAR. I AM DEFINITELY A FAN OF THIS CAR. IN PARTICULAR I AM INTERESTED IN NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT THE HANDLING !! THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE A GENERAL MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE HANDLING OF MID ENGINED CARS, SURE WHEN YOU PRESS ON THRO A BEND AND THE REAR SLIDES IT GOES VERY VERY QUICK BUT YOU HAVE TO BE GOING EXTREMELY FAST TO REACH THAT LIMIT !
THE LATER CARS HAVE BETTER ROAD HOLDING IN GENERAL TERMS IN MY OPINION (I HAVE OWNED AN EARLY SW20) SO LETS HEAR NO MORE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT A CAR THAT IF IT WERE BUILT BY THE ITALIANS WOULD COST 3 TIMES AS MUCH. I LOVE MY MR2.

robert (spider-wj032.proxy.aol.com)
i am currently looking to buy a 94 or a 95 mr2. i also want to have a ground effect kit put on. i owned a 91 turbo, t-top, that was loaded, but i was the second or third owner. that was a bad experience. i bought it from a dealer and the previous owner absued it. long story short, everything went wrong with the car and the dealer took it back and gave me my money back. i still didnt give up hope of having a mr2. this car will be a weekend and summer car.

I'm on my second '85 MR2 since they came out. I really enjoy the older models.I know they're a little out dated, but they're classics. I also have a '98 Dodge Durango and my wife has a '95 Mitsubishi 3000GT. But I still prefur the '85 MR2, the car I drive everyday.

Very beautifully designed and engineered site. Really impressive. Wonderful information! Joe, I was not able to find out if the Mr2's interior is leather? We'll try to do some research on the interior also and get some swatches of original colors. If you need an article on proper interior cleaning, or leather care, we'll be happy to help. I need a new clutch for my 92 mr2 na. I called around, and got prices ranging from 190 to 675. My friends step dad is a mechanic, and he said that for less than 500 it probably wasn't installed. What have any of you paid for a clutch on a 92 na?

Just looking at MR2 sites. Trying to find a site where I may purchase a Factory Manual for my 87 MR2. Lots of interesting MR's. I have owed my Black T-Top Two for 11 years. Everything original except rear tires and the wiper blades. I purchased the MR2 because it reminded me so much of my 914 Porsche, only with out the problems.

Hey! Thanks for the info. Bought a nice 86 mk1 (neon blue, loaded) owned by a Gal who kept it looking nice in and out but niglected the cooling system. Spun #1 rod bearing and toasted the very durable little 4AGE. Just built the new motor and installed it yesterday. Lots more room than a 914-6! that was a tru mid engine. This is just a front wheel drive powerplant in the rear! Not to bad to work on, I've never driven a MR-2! I'll let you all Know what I think!

Terry (host-209-214-170-83.sdf.bellsouth.net)
To Rob asking about the coolant leak, check your head gasket...you never know. On 4AGE's, they typically need to be replaced around 100-125K miles. Also, anyone own the new Volk Racing TE37 (white) interested in trading for my Fitti 500 3 piece modulars and some cash. These Fittipaldis are VERY nice and expensive, but I'm ready for a new look...can send pictures. By the way, in the tight stuff, my wife's 85 MKI NA handles better than my lowered 92 Turbo. Really. Just use the throttle to steer and man o man. Give me a supercharger and I'd...have higher insurance rates. Happy motoring to all you pure enthusiasts. I wish all the scrubs would refrain from visiting our pleasant site with mentions of 600 HP MR2's running 8's in the quarter mile and needing to "tune their bitch harder"...whatever. By the way, why did Toyota stop putting rear swaybars on the MKI's after 85? I just read that, and Its hard to believe. Did they feel it was unecessary, or where they cutting costs, did the!
y run out of parts or what? Confusing.

The guy that had it before me modifided it with 16 inch wheels, a TRD suspention package (sway bars, springs, and shocks), J&S ignition, HKS turbo exhaust, and a manual boot controller and air intake from Mr.2 Preformance Products. Can't wait to take it to a race track!!

G'day fellow mister drivers!! Well this is the third week on the web, found your site and it's great to see such interest in these great little cars.Have had a red 89 model car for 5 years now and have not had a problem besides basic wear and tear. Great performance, handling, looks, power, class, what more could you want in a sports car. The day I saw one for the first time I just had to have one. I still don't understand why Toyota didn't promote the car heaps more. You just never saw them around. I can't tell you, of course you'd know, how many accidents I've nearly seen by people trying to get a better look at the mr2 while driving. They're just great cars. Well, gotta go and keep the spirit of this great car alive. God bless you guys. jon

I've owned my 85 MR from the beginning. I've loved it from the first day. I've logged 128,000 miles. It has some rust , but the body structure is tighter than most cars with half the mileage. The engine is bullet proof. There isn't a day that I don't bring it to 7000 rpm. Still I am on the original clutch though I'm on my fifth set of tires.
Any suggestions on a stainless steel exhaust system with a sweet exhaust note. The HKS I have now is rather disappointing. . I'd appreciate your feedback.
Excellent web site.

Hello, I have a '91 turbo with 72,000 miles. I recently had the timing belt replaced. Look out! Many toyota dealerships rarely ever see these things and some do not know quite how to change a timing belt. One told me that they would have to completely remove the engine and would charge like $1100!
Luckily there is more than one Toyota dealership in Indianapolis. The second one said they do not remove the engine and charge only $500. I went with the second option!!---------Bob

Ahh, the circle of life. I just traded with my Dad to get his 1989 MR2 SC back. I bought the car in 1990 & sold it to him a few years later, now I am getting it back. Car needs some tranny & brake work (and a tune up), but all that should be done in time to pop those T-tops off & enjoy a California (Bay Area) summer!! I have owned three MR2's (all Mark I models) of the years and these little cars are GREAT! Can hardly wait, so I can really compare the '2' with my wifes modified Miata.

This is a great site with a lot of info.! I am a proud owner of an '89 Celica ST, but I'm getting bored with it. I am trying to purchase a 91-93 MR2 turbo. If anyone is selling, or knows of someone who is, please e-mail me. Also some tips on where to find them on the net other than the MR2 classifides site. Any info. would be greatly appreciated, and again this site is awesome!!!

Great site, lots of info etc,. I pick up my Jap import T-Bar Turbo this coming Saturday and the wife (pregnant with 1st child) is still talking to me! Well, nearly.
I've tested a few before I took the plunge, but this '90 feels quite a bit quicker...... What's been done to it? (It does have a very large exhaust pipe i.e like a trash can (we Britsh call them dustbins by the way!!
Look forward to contributing soon

I've got a MK II H reg, non turbo model unfortunatly, but I love it to bits, what a sceam !
Anyway, to the point, whenever I drive with the windows down or the roof off, there is a smell of fuel that makes its way into the car. I wouldn't say it was neat fuel, but it's a "heady " type of fuel smell. I've had a good smell around the engine and can smell it around the top of the throttle linkage, but there are no signs of leakage anywhere. Toyota themselves have looked at it and moved the breather pipe from the petrol tank to a different position but still to no avail, this is getting to be a pain in the ass! Also it's not going to be much fun when the summer gets here, can anybody out there HELP !!!
Of all the thousands of Mister Two owners out there, somebody must have had the same problem and solved the riddle. Please email me at sootys@freenet.co.uk and make me a happy MK 2 owner (make that happier!)

Hi! I bought a 1991 Turbocharged MR2 about a year ago down in Phoenix AZ. And little did I Know that the turbo was going out of it. Arizona does not have a consumer protection law, so needless to say, I found myself stuck with this Mr2 with a bad turbo. I am just looking for any information on getting the turbo rebuilt or even getting a new one. I am also seeking information on wether or not it is possible to put a supercharger on it. Basically is what I would really like to do with the car is make it as high performance as possible. So if anybody has any info. in regaurds to this I will take all I can get.
Thank you,
Travis Edland

Hi there, some while ago I obtained a 1988 MR2 which I used for a while, unfortunately the engine sounds a bit rattley so I have not used it for some months and am considering having it fixed.
Q. Where can I get info on carrying out mechanical repairs, i.e. how easy is it to get the engine out etc.
I'd welcome any advise
Thanks Dave M

I have an '87 Mark I manual 5-spd with 140K+ miles, still running great. Love it.
Main complaint is short clutch life. I've put 4 or 5 clutch/pressure plate assy's in it, and it's a tough job. Every one has failed same way: cushioning biscuits/retainers between clutch hub & disc break down.
Also I had to have trans rebuilt last year - lost input shaft bearings.
I think the clutch & trans are the weak points in the Mk I, so am thinking about looking for a Mk II.
Can anyone comment on reliability of Mk II vs Mk I?
:-) Bob

I changed a lot of plastic stuff inside the car like: ashtray, door handles etc... my girlfiend thinks i'm crazy!!! (30 years old + baby) I just could not imagine loving a car as much as this!!! thanks for reading!!!

i think that the new mr2's should have stronger engines.
and i think that you should biuld bigger mr2's with 4 litre engines
that roars.
