I have a 1991 Turbo. Just recently had the whole car painted at the dealer. The car has 98k and the engine is tight. I am having one problem, when I go above 35 mph and shift into 3rd or 4th, it's hard to get it into gear. I've called a couple of dealers and of course they tell me that I need to bring in in (along with $95.00) to have it diagnosed. I was told that it could be the shifter cables or the synchros in the transmission. Does anyone know what could cause this. Thanks

I have just bought my first MR2 Turbo today, Its green, 1990, Half Leather Interior. I will be collecting it at 9am in the morning, so I guess theres
no sleep for me tonight. Its an import from japan and I got it from a car auction in Dublin, (Where I am From). After looking around for two weeks at MR2's, I have looked at about 100 of them on the Dublin docks and at auction and decided on this one. Its totaly standard no extras installed.

My wife and I own 2 MR2's. Hers is a 85 NA MKI, recently repainted original silver color. Mine is a 91 MKII, bright yellow. Great cars can't say enough about them. We own nothing but Toyotas; an 87 MKIII Supra, 84 Xtra cab PU, lifted, an 86 4 Runner, lifted, like new, and a 91 4 Runner. All Arizona vehicles. The most driven and the most enjoyed are the 2 MR2's. Now looking for a red MKII MR2, anybody?

Hello. I don't own an MR2, but I have been the proud owner of an 87 FX16 for
years. I am looking for performance parts. I have installed sway bars and
lowering springs. I also have AR29 wheels with 196/60 tires. I love the car.
The MR2 has the same engine, brakes, and possibly other items. I would appreciate any help from anyone. I really need flared front fenders to stop rub when turning. Hope to hear from someone. I may try to join the club.
Thanks,
Ed

My MR2 is the best car I have ever owned. a 1988 MK1, Supercharged model, that has the best handling and engine response of any car. Kepp the Porsche's and Beamers, give me an MR2 any day. I am busily saving to buy a 1999 model MR2, luckily, in NZ we still get MR2's new...

Love the site. Im 19 and currently trying to find which car to buy. 93 MR2 Turbo was the best out of all the cars I've driven(99 Integra GSR, 98 Eclipse GS-T, 95 Prelude Vtec, 99 Civic Si. The T-bar, the interior, the design and the perfomance out ranked all other cars. Coming from San Francisco where MR2s are rare makes this car a living legend. Too bad we dont get them new here any more.

I have an 86 I am currently road racing in ITA. I started to run it last year. I have been hard pressed to find certain real racing performance parts so I can make an impression on those Honda CRXs. I have been resorting to fabricating my own, and the experience of others would be helpful. I am mainly lacking in engine tricks and tuning to reduce the difficulties associated with modern electronic engine controls.

I've been very pleased with my '91 Blk Turbo for 9 years now. I'm about to cross the 205,000 mile mark. It's been all up & down the east coast. The first year itself was over 36K miles. For Sale is a white MR2 90's model w/T-tops right down my street. Looks like it's in good condition from the road. I'll get the 411 with a request. Good site for trading & obtaining parts! I have been in possession of my first MR2, for about two months now and it is pure joy! It is a 1991 n/a, T-tops, loaded with all options, Nautical Blue and flat out fine! This is my first ride in three years due to some considerable down time in the hospital,(a truck rammed me in my 735i while I was waiting for a red light to change), but that is unimportant. What is imoprtant is my excitement over this car! I have owned BMWs and Porsches in the recent past and though I still have fond memories of all of them, none got my heart to flutter the way this thing does. I can just sit and look at it and smile. Anyway, I am ver much interested in joining a club for social activities centered around the MR2 and any that would like to converse or whatever, send me a line. My address will be changing in the next month or so but I can be reached here now and in the future. Thanks for the great site!

Yesterday I looked at what I thought was a really nice red 94 NA but after I drove it for an hour, I got out and looked at it closely and could see overspray on both sides and the back. Of course, the dealer told me that they were not aware of any wrecks on it and then were not willing to come down to what I thought it was worth. They also told me it was a lease return but I ran a check on the VIN and got the history and it had been titled three times then sold at an auction so that was incorrect also. They were giving me a good trade in for my Integra GSR but after finding out that it had been wrecked, they would not lower the asking price of the MR2 because they know that someone who may not check it out as closely as I did will pay what they are asking for it.
I then went to another dealership where they had a black 95 NA and I could tell right away that it had been in a major wreck so I was extremely frustrated by the end of the day yesterday because I thought I would be driving home in a low mileage 94 or 95 which are getting pretty hard to find these days. I'm still looking so wish me luck.
This site has been a great help for all of the information that I have needed about the MR2. Thanks !!!!

Just bought my second mr2. A '91 yellow turbo. My old one was an '87. Your page helped me develop my love of the mr2 and is one of the reasons why i'll never be without one again.

I bougth an 86' in 91' on the impression that it was a one-owner, low-mileage car. Turned out that the dealer actually sold me a unit that was stolen and totally trashed, recovered and reconstructed, and sold with an 'A' title. But untill I discovered the truth two months later while doing a title search, I fell in love with it. It was the most responsive car I ever drove. And, to say the least, I was heart-broken when I relunctantly returned it. It may be better to have loved a member of the opposite sex and lost, than never loved at all. But when I left my MR-2 on that lot that day, I felt like I lost my bestest friend ever. But I never gave up. My search for a new love never wavered. And, I'm so glad I persivered throughout the years. Because after 8 years, I finally found a true, one owner, low mileage, mint condition, red, 85 Mk1. And what's really unique about my find, is that it was under my nose all along. A retired college professor who volunteers here at !
the hospital where I work, and who originally bought it for his wife on her 50th birthday, and, who constantly reminded me that she would never part with it, has finally agreed to sell it to me. But had Volkswagon not reintroduced the Beetle, my search would still be ongoing. Yeah for the Beetle! So, as you can probably understand, I'm quite elated. And, I'm very thankful that my wife agreed to let me have it.
