I have a 1989 Mk1 MR2 with 77,000 miles. Brought it in 1994 and every once in a while consider selling it but can't bring myself to do it. Great car which is great fun to drive especially with the T-Tops off.

Great site. Lots of info and links. I saw a message in the guest book that said that the MK1 SC was ONLY produced in 198889 and not 1986-89. FYI: I could be wrong but I believe that that is only true in North America. From what I understand the SuperCharged MK1 WAS produced from 1986-1989 in countries outside of North America, but again, I could be wrong.

Hello all lucky owners of MR2s.
I am currently looking to purchase a MR2 Mark II GT Turbo, though I must admit that I am new to all of this. So I would be very grateful if anyone could advise me on any details regarding this car (cost of ownership, reliability, insurance quotes, parts, performance, and any important info you think I should know about MR2's).
I am just a little bit reserved from buying one after many (and I mean many) costly problems with a Renault 5 GT Turbo.
I would be grateful if you could email : JOYB4@TINYONLINE.CO.UK
Many thanks
Neil White
PS: SWEET WEB SITE WITH NICE EYE CANDY!!!!

Hello, I wanted to share my overall satisfaction for my 1993 turbo. The
car is mint, around 50k on the odometer. What an exciting car to drive
hard, and to tour in. Despite the cabin limits on space, trunk space is
not bad. My other ride is a 911 3.2 car, and while totally different in road
feel, is a good match in lap times. My wife and I love to rally. I think they
really got it right when the turbos hit 93, and can't get enough time in
mine. Paul

Bought 86' MR2 in 2000. The thing has rusted from the inside out ever since I got it. Body work now done waiting for the paint which should be done in a few days. Replace DOHC with dual hot cams. Replaced clutch with dual plated center force kevlar clutch. Pressure plate, flywheel, rear suspension, slave cylinder(of course). Buying aftermarket rims when I get it back. The guy wanted to put 17"er's on it but I've decided on American Racing 16"'s with 35series lopro's, 205 on rear and 195 on front. Underglow, K&N air filter, couldn't get air intake thought(system). It's NA but will probably stay that way. Stereo: Kenwood DMask MP3, two 4" Alpine tweets, two 6" Alpine Mids, and of course the two 12" Alpine competition 1000w subs. Powered by two USAcoustics 2200 1000w amps. Don't have the capacitors yet. Needs new alternator as well. Replaced disc rotors all round as well as brake pads. Caliper wouldn't come off untill heated and impact tools used. Searching for!
interior shift boot, door panel and arm rest leather. As well as seat covers to preserve my racing seats. Getting the talking alarm installed after paint done and also the Momo 4-point racing harnesses, (should have bought 3-points, cheaper and easier). Also had to replace starter which cost 260 dollars. Hope nothing else goes wrong!

Hello everybody I just got a 1991 MR2non turbo. But I want my car to be legal for street use but I want to make it more for quarter mile racing no subs no nothing that can make my car heavier, so I wanted to get more information on what are the best parts and what to do and not to do. Not afraid to spend money. I want to show some of these people in my town of Medford, Oregon that MR2's are fast. I wanted to know if anybody has a 12 or 13 second MR2. If you live in this town talk to me. Or just talk to me over the internet. Tips or any information will be useful thank you.

I own a 2001 MR2 Spyder and am hoping to find an owner's club in the Chicago area. I really enjoy this roadster but I think there are a couple of design flaws and I like to offer some solutions. Number one, its steering is WAY too light (what were they thinking?) Solution: pull out the power steering fuse, drive it around like that for a week and you'll never connect the PS again (you have to get used to the the PS warning light.) Problem two: severe wind buffeting with the top and windows down above 40mph. Solution: fill in the triangular area where the windshield frame meets the door. Cut a triangle out of rubber floor tile base moulding and insert the bottom lip of the moulding into the weather stripping by the bottom of the windshield frame where it meets the door. Mine do not interfere with window or door operation, and top down motoring at highway speeds becomes enjoyable.

I just bought a 1985 MR2 as a first car for my daughter. She's a 10th grader, she was not to sure about the buy, but once she drove it and she fell in love. It needs a little work but I think I can get it back into good shape with just a little work. I do have a question and that is, "can you adapt the 1986 supercharger to the existing 1600 DOHC engin?" And where can I find one?
