I recently purchased this 87 Toyota MR2 as a winter project. I have spent nights tinkering with this little project and drive it to reward myself after each evening. I have redone the suspension and rebuilt the calipers, this has improved the car's washy feeling around turns. the car has proven to be extremely enjoyable on a tight budget and I look forward to autocrossing it in the spring. I have but one concern... Rust has devoured the rear quarter panels around the wheel wells. The last owner attempted to mask this disease with a poorly done job with bondo. It's apparent that he was hoping that it would act as a band-aid and didn't fix it properly, I really can't complain because the price reflected this problem. I am now researching to see if I can get aftermarket quarters, but haven't found a good page that can satisfy my needs. I would like to reapir the quarters properly, but would also hate to spend the equivalent of the value of the car. On top of that project, the exhaust has recently broken at (I believe to be) the exhaust manifold off the engine. While this perhaps decreases the work the engine has to do, it tends to damper the pleasure derived when the car you drive sounds like a lawnmower on steroids. Again, I don't want to break the bank on a new system. If anyone has any ideas how this can be repaired or fixed with aftermarket parts, I would be all ears.
