I've owned the MR-2 Since 1993. I love the car is a beautiful car, fun and very
fast. I first started modifing it by "boosting" the turbo Greedy fuel cut defenser
K&N Filter Kit, and I knocked out the Cattalytics, Greedy Blow off valve kit. And
20 psi of boost. The car ran beautifuly beating up mustangs with NOS, and lots
of other contenders.
About a year ago I decided to get serious. After installing a Turbonetics T3/T4
External wastegate by Turbonetics. Adding an additional bosch in line fuel pump,
Paxton superchargers fuel pressure regulator, Modifing the fuel rail so fuel
will come in through both sides of the fuel rail, return fuel coming back through
the middle of the fuel rail. After installing all the goodies I went for a test
drive and did not notice my thermostat was getting stuck. So between overheating
and overboost caused by a loose hose giving my engine a sudden death.
Then I had to start all over taking apart the engine I junked the stock pistons
in favor of JE PISTONS. The stock rods were inspected and found to be more than
suitable for the engine. So they were "shot peened" and placed back in the engine
The cylinder head was reviewed and taken to a local cylinder head specialist.
He ported the head and performed a three angle valve job. Replaced the valve
springs and shimmed them for more spring tension. The HKS 1mm metal head gasket
was chosen. When I ran accross a problem with the timing belt sliding off the
motor. After a few technicians looking at the car I decided to contact Lance Ho
Lung of TOYOMOTO immediatly he fixed the problem and finished the car.
Toyomoto did the finishing and modified a few other things in the car.
The exhaust is custom utilizing an ULTRA-FLOW muffler a 3 inch downpipe with a
flex pipe and a single 5 inch tip.
The car was just recently finished and i'm waiting to break in the engine to
turn up the boost and see what is going to do.
An Upgrade intercooler is in order as well as HKS VPC. I plan to test the car
in the next "DRAG WARS" wich is an import drag race that tours up and down the
east coast.
