This is my second '85...should never have sold the first one! I'm in the process of refurbishing it, I've had it about a year now. No engine mods as yet, just prophylactic replacement of timing belt, water pump, and starter. Even still using a stock airfilter. Oil consumption is zero, absolutely zero problems or infirmities with the 4AGE... what a remarkable little engine. Have completely refurbished the steering and suspension, with new struts (Tokico adjustables), bushings, etc. Am planning on autocrossing in the stock class, so for now will keep stock springs and wheels, but have a spare set of wheels with BFG R1's mounted. I used to roadrace motorcycles, but now, the MisteR keeps the adrenaline Jones at bay... an interesting thing about the MR2, it goes best when driven like a two-stroke roadrace bike: brake before the turn, never drop the throttle when you start to lose the back end, use the gearbox to keep it in the powerband, and smoother=faster... and enjoy the stunned look on the big fat high-horsepower guys as you dive inside and pass 'em on the inside of a tight decreasing radius turn and feather the back end accelerating out while they're still sliding sideways, swearing and praying for a straightaway... Incidentally, I'm new to Jacksonville, and I miss the canyons of California and Oregon... any suggestions for good driving roads in north Florida or south Georgia will be greatly appreciated...
