Just stock (so far, but now I've discovered this site with its aftermarket
vendors... ;-))
I purchased this guy at 60K from a sellor living in the next town. Seems he
is in the military, and the car had gone with him to Texas, New York and,
finally, Hawaii. It had Hawaii plates on it (I'm in Mass!). The guy had left
power of attorney to sell it with his brother and mother (both). I haggled with
the brother, settled on a good price, and then they couldn't find the title.
The owner was hiking the Appalachian Trail at the time, so I waited until he
returned, hitched a ride out of Hanscom Field to Hawaii, got a duplicate title
and mailed it back to his mother. This was all during the month of April, the
best time in the Northeast to ride with the T-top open! Sigh...the rest of
that summer was beastly. Oh well, I GOT it, in the end, and was a sweet piece
of hardware it is...I did have to replace the exhaust manifold, which amounted
to about $800 of engine work (you should have seen the pile of worn out gaskets
and bolts...one of which had to be machined out...left over from *that* job)
but now, aside from the fact the "check engine" light is always on because they
seem to have trashed a sensor during the surgery, the car is just about perfect.
I'm excited about the aftermarket products that improve the low-end torque,
though. When I floor it and let up in the low end, the whole engine goes "ungh"
afterward. Rather loudly. I guess it is just become elderly and I have to be
a bit more gentle on it. At least I don't drive it like my friend Steve did the
one time I let him try...it was near red line most of the time. Sigh....
