Standard Mk1 T-Bar. The only changes concern the stereo which consists of mainly Kenwood gear. 6 inch woofers have been fitted in the doors with 1.5 inch spacer rings, tweeters recessed into the doors just below the mirror trim panel. Mid range speakers of 4 inch dia. have been mounted in the standard position in the dash. These speakers run off 2 3-way crossovers and are powered by one half of a 4-channel amp mounted under the passenger seat (very tight squeeze!). The other half of the amp powers 2 subwoofers, one mounted behind each seat. The subs are 8 inch units made by Hi Fonics and are designed for very small sealed enclosures (ideal for the MR2). The radio cassette is linked to a digital graphic equaliser mounted in the blanking plate beneath the standard radio. The radio also controls a 10 disc CD changer which is mounted vertically in the rear boot, the cable for which had to be routed through the nearside wing avoiding the hot engine bay. The cable emerges behind the trim plate beneath the rear side window, fitting this wasn't as difficult as expected. Overall the sound quality is very good, especially the 'stereo image', no doubt due to the forward positioning of the mids and tweeters. Unfortunately the drone of the engine at speeds of 60mph or more defeats all this, just as well I don't travel on motorways much!
