I'm a Research Fellow in the Psychology Department at the University of Plymouth
U.K. I decided that the MR2 was car I would most like to buy about two years
ago but kept putting it off for one reason or another. In those two years I
never came across any model in the same price bracket which came anywhere near
the MR2 for looks - let alone performance! So in December last year (1995) I
got off the fence and spent my hard-earned cash on a brand new white T-Bar.
Funnily enough the toughest decision to make was which colour to get! This
proved a difficult choice as you can't judge appearance from an airbrushed
picture and half-inch bars of colour in a brochure and there aren't many
models on the road or at the dealers to compare. I think I made the right
choice as the white contrasts nicely with the black leather. The T-Bar model
was also a good choice but due to the British climate (i.e. rain) it will
probably be a long time before I can take the roof off!
I'm also very pleased with the MR2's handling and fuel economy - I was driving
a Peugeot 205 GTi before and the MR2 is surprisingly cheaper to run.
As I've only had the car for a couple of months I haven't really tested it yet
(the first month was 'running in') but it does seem that most of the power is
at the top end. I had expected the acceleration from a standing start to be
more impressive - then I realised that, because it's so smooth, I just didn't
notice how good it really was!
All in all I'm very pleased with the MR2 - it was certainly worth waiting for
and I'm definitely looking forward to testing it thoroughly in the future!
