Location: Far Chicago Burbs, IL, USA
Car: 1992, MkI, Red
Mileage: 62,000 miles
This car is great. However, the rear tires don't seem to last long. The link
ftp://doxcel.com/julie/sportscar3.jpg will take you to a picture of my girl
friend getting out of the car. I took the photo with an Epson PhotoPC digital
camera.
Notice the scratch in the car on the rear corner panel. I am about to have that
panel replaced (the damage gets worse toward the back of the car). I have
already had to replace the front left panel and door skin as well as the rear
right panel. This car has had nothing but bad luck
I also want to point out that where the car is scratched, is body shop paint.
Notice the perfect quality. I know a guy who is the best painter in the state
of West Virginia. His life is paint. No one can believe how good this guy is
and how cheap (life is cheap in the hills of WV) he is. The hood of the car,
top, and truck has never been repainted but the rest has. What has not been
painted has oxidized from WVa acid rain (Toyota paint is very poor).
When I send my car to WV to have the left rear panel repaired, I am going to
have the whole thing repainted by this pro. To replace the left rear corner
panel, left light, and repaint this car, he is going to charge me $2000 exactly
including parts! I went to a quality shop in ILL only for them to argue that the
paint was factory and I must have forgotton where my past body work was done!
They also wanted $4000 just for the complete repaint I want. Body repair was extra.
Every time I damage a fender, I just have it replaced, so there is zero bondo on
this car.
When I purchased this car new, I wanted to keep it perfect. My first bad encounter
was shortly after I purchased it, when I parked it at the very last spot, far away
from everyone, at a Kroger's parking lot in Charleston, WV. When I came out of the
store, a white beat-up pick-up truck had just driven directly into the passenger
side. He stopped, dumped beer out the window, and zoomed off. I couldn't beleive
it. I got his plate, but the police wouldn't do anything about it except give my
insurance company the info. Since he had no insurance, my insurance company paid
the bill.
Anyhow, here is to a great car and the great women who helps me drive it.
