EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION:

Replacement exhaust pipes for 1985 through 1987 Toyota MR2 vehicles, Midas Part No. 3E9395.

DESCRIPTION OF DEFECT:

The flange of the exhaust pipe heat shield, located at the outlet end of the exhaust pipe, can contact the vehicle oil pan. The flange can wear through the oil pan causing an oil leak.

CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT:

If an oil leak occurs, oil can contact the heat shield and exhaust pipe. Motor oil contacting hot exhaust components could result in a vehicle fire.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Replace the defective exhaust pipes with non-defective pipes.
