Usually only twitchy in the > rain - supposedly wonderful in the dry. (I drive an early Rx7, and so I've > allways been interested in small sports cars like the MR2, miata, etc, not that > they are in the same category) I had a '93 MR2T, and it had factory 14" alloy wheels. For '94 they went to 15", and it really cleared up many of the handling problems. Basically, it handled *EXTREMELY* well. At the extreme limit, it snapped *VERY* quickly, and you had better be paying attention, or you'd end up doing a whirlybird. I was able to intentionally induce it once in the dry, but the speed required to accomplish it scared me. Using Toyo Proxes gave great grip (at the expense of tread life), and made it even harder to do this. The car is unusable in winter. Not maybe this, maybe that - don't even try it. The boost comes on like a sledge, and if you start it right, you'll surprise many a corvette. I almost spun it once on a decreasing radius righthander, and in the recovery, managed to go across the left lane, and drop the rear tires over the edge. I missed a 10' tall street sign by about ten feet. Scary. ahm *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Subject: Re: 1993 MR2's From: gjb@europa.com (Greg Bowers) Article: 91620 of rec.autos.misc Date: Mon, 05 Aug 1996 01:35:26 GMT zmax@world.std.com (David Weinstein) wrote: >pcuser@liskay.raleigh.ibm.com writes: > >> >>I'm about to jump in the used car market and am considering a 1993 MR2. Best clutch/shifter, very easy to pull away (ie. only a TOTAL moron could stall this thing). I like to cockpit. I believe the A/C is old stuff, it works quite well. Acceleration is fine for a normal car, very predictable, but nothing like the Turbo. My one gets a little unstable at speeds over 60 mph. I drove a Turbo recently, and it seemed better in this regard (it may just be mine, although the front is light). The Turbo was nicer acceleration wise, but otherwise it didn't quite feel as nice as mine (pedal feel, shifter, reallyyl low end torque). It did have more miles (38K vs 12K) though. Anyway, the MR2 is a really nice car, just make sure you get to drive it at least 70 to 80 mph on the freeway to make sure it feels OK (this is probably true for any car).
