Here goes: lets skip the low ratings for trailers and such and start with... M = 81mph N = 87mph P = 94 mph (not as in "P"195/75R14... that means "passenger") Q = 100 mph (really starts speed ratings on some 4WD tires...) R = 106 mph (not to be confused with 195/75"R"14 for "radial") S = 112 mph (finally a letter you recognize...) T = 118 mph U = 124 mph (I think only Goodyear uses this...) H = 130 mph V = above 130 the next are new descriptions that will be shown as "225/50R-16 92V" or 235/45R-17 88W " for exaple V = 149 mph W = 168 mph Y = 186 mph now memorize this and never forget!
