i want to chime in do not attempt the head gasket job yourself its hard for a beginner and impossible for someone with no previous mechanical experience ur not going to get a better price from a mechanic than at least 900 for that and if u get it for that he's probably goin to screw you some other way if the head is cracked then your best option to get a new engine b/c for one that is no longer going to be as dependable and secondly a new engine may even be cheaper than the removal of the head and the machine work and the installaiton of the head plus the extra part to remove all of this gaskets and etc just trying save u some money
