A few possibalities
I just had to get my clutch replaced, so heres the order I checked everything.
Start with the clutch slave cylendar. Its a $20 piece and if it is cracked and/or leaking it will cause your clutch to not fully engage and could result in slipping. The most obvious sign that it has gone out will be the hydrolic fluid draining. If you've allowed your hydrolic fluid to get low, it may have sucked some air into the line, again, causing your clutch to not fully engage; that will just require bleeding the system.
On to more expensive things. On my car, when I pressed the gas, the RPM's would jump, shortly followed by the clutch catching and pulling forward. This required the clutch ($300) and flywheel ($300) to be replaced.
Another item that can cause this that is common to go out on these cars is the clutch fork. Apparently it is made of cheap metal and tends to bend to the point that it fails to fully engage the clutch. Its about $100 from the right places, or $400 from the wrong ones.
If it comes to replacing the clutch and flywheel, the best prices I found were Fidanza racing parts. Less expensive than OEM, with much better performance.
