Does this look like a good deal?
I just picked up an mki with rod knock for cheap, and I'm planning on swapping in a 20v, because.... why not?
Anyways, here's a few ebay ads I've seen, what do you think? Deal or no deal? eBay Motors: CLEAN AND RARE 4AGE 20v silver top Complete swap (item 230258774539 end time Jun-13-08 10:08:25 PDT) eBay Motors: Toyota Celica/Carolla AE86 4AGE 20V Silvertop JDM (item 180251220139 end time Jun-16-08 18:23:19 PDT) eBay Motors: JDM Toyota Levin 4AGE 20Valve Silver Top Engine Swap (item 110260630951 end time Jun-19-08 07:32:35 PDT) eBay Motors: JDM TOYOTA 20VALVE SLVR TOP ENGINE W/ 5SPD TRANS - 4AGE (item 250257333546 end time Jun-19-08 07:40:14 PDT) eBay Motors: 4AGE TOYOTA COROLA 20 VALVE SILVER TOP COMPLET SWAP (item 310057997880 end time Jun-20-08 10:38:53 PDT) |

I was leaning toward this one- seems like it has everything, it's cheaper, has cheaper shipping, and they can ship residential (finding a business willing to accept an engine delivery is tricky).

that one is fine too, I was just going by legitness. the more expensive one has more pics, 360 pics of it.
Included items: Complete Head and Block, 5 Speed Transmission Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, Fuel Rail, Injectors, Throttle Body, Alternator, Distributor, Power Steering Pump, ECU, Wireharness*Engine to ECU*, MAFS, Ignitor compared to: Engine manual transmission ECU clutch flywheel itb's harness starter Alternator Power Steering Sensors attached to the engine , Manifolds: Intake and Exhaust you are just guaranteed pretty much the whole swap. |

I'm not a huge fan of JDM addiction
If you're just looking for a silvertop, most likely you can find one at an importer in your area. This way you don't pay shipping, and you actually get to look the engine over before you buy. If you do go with an ebay motor, get them to send you a picture of what's under the oil cap. This will be your best indicator of if the motor is any good or not. If you see black sludge, and they are claiming 60k, you don't want the motor. You don't really need a swap set. Aside from the ecu, you can get everything else out of the junkyard. AFM, coil/igniter, and o2 are all easily available. An ecu will usually run you $100-$150. |

^ How do I find an importer in my area? I live in domestic-land (metro Detroit).

Just hit the yellow pages. Look for Japanese engine sellers. I'm sure there is something in detroit.

Only there's not. People hate the Japanese here.

Well how rude of them! OK, well whatever engine you go with, try to find one that has everything you'll need, or make sure you can source everything you need. Would suck to have a motor and be stuck waiting another month to find an ecu or something like that! I haven't purchased an engine yet (will have to soon for my 86 shell out back) so I can't tell you which importers have the best reputations for sure.

^ Indeed.
Every other car here has a bumper sticker saying something along the lines of "buy American", which is plastered across their "American" SUV which was built in Mexico, while wearing clothes from China, Taiwan, and Korea, owning ****** Italian furniture, and living a life of complete hypocrisy. The best I've seen in the area is the extremely rare import auto parts center- then there's mostly American salvage yards, and then dealers. If anybody knows of some way of finding a local engine importer, within a 100 or so mile range, I'd be thrilled to avoid the shipping prices, but I really really doubt there's one around here. |

Have you tried Canada? Importers are common there, and the deals are the best.
Here's a shop in Toronto: Tokyo Auto Parts Didn't see any 20v's on the site, but they probably know where to get one. |

Here's another. And they have them at really good prices.
Tiger Japanese Auto Parts LTD - Home Though it's over 200 miles, an $850 blacktop, or $490 silvertop might be worth it. |

I just bought a blacktop yesterday. $850 + $300 shipping. Only problem is it doesn't come with the ecu, so I'll have to source that separately, or use the Megasquirt I have sitting in my room.
