if doing a 20v swap

if i decide to do a 20v silvertop swap. when performing the swap would i be better off spending alittle extra to convert to map when i do the swap if im considering open intake or turbo in the future or wait until later down the road? if so then what would i need / cost difference between now or later. i guess theis is directed to mr220 considering i will prob have him make me a harness to make the project a half a day job

If you want to run open itbs, the blacktop ecu and map sensor is the best way to go. For a turbo setup, an afm would probably do a little better than a 1bar map sensor, which can't really read boost at all. Really, for a turbo 20v something in addition to the stock ecu will be needed. On a side note, I've often wondered if a gen2 3sgte ecu would work well?

As for price, the main cost is going to be in the higher price of the BT ecu. My price stays the same for either ecu.

Another thing. If you're going the ST on BT electronics route, don't bother with a ST swap set. Get just a ST and buy the electronics seperately. You usually pay a premium for an uncut harness anyway, which I don't need. Getting a cut harness, you might be able to offset the added cost of the BT ecu.

well the local company i was looking at is 850 for st motor, trans, ecu uncut harness ecu , afm. seems like a good price but i dont really need a trans , and ill prob wanna go open itb's so ill have to do some research and price some stuff out seperate.....so i would need : st engine , harness , bt ecu and map sensor? am i missing anything?

then again maybe i go the route of buy the complete set considering i feel 850 is a good price for all that and buy a bt ecu and map sensor seperate so i would have the trans and afm for possible future use

You need:

-ST engine
-BT ecu
-Toyota NA map sensor and airtemp sensor
-20 harness of some kind (cut or uncut doesn't matter)
-Coil and igniter (93 4runner v6 if you buy seperate)
-4wire o2

$850 is a pretty good price for an ST swap set. You can sell the 20v ecu off for $100-$130. You can sell the afm off as well. Sometimes these go for $100, though you can get a 91 camry 4cyl 3sfe afm for $15 as a substitute. Some people don't know this though. Between the afm and the ecu, you could probably buy a blacktop ecu. Toyota NA map sensors are super cheap. I could give you an airtemp sensor if you wanted.

Buying local is always the best idea. No shipping charges, and you get to look under the oil cap before you buy.

BTW, a 50000 mile jdm motor is supposed to be silver, or slightly golden internally. Make sure you're not getting the black sludge box.
