Buying a 20v?
Okay. To start let me announce that I've been a honda guy for a very long time, my 01 prelude SH is great. I've been looking at wanting to autox though and would like rwd. Since my prelude is my DD I've been looking for a reasonably priced alternative that I can flog at the track. MR2's seem to be in high regards for fun go-kart like driving. There is an '85 with a ST 4age w/mt ecu swap here in Dallas. I don't want to spend more than 2500. He said it failed emissions and hasn't driven it lately, but the car runs and drives. Already has lowering springs etc. Now I'm not sure what spring rates he's running so they might need to be changed. My question is would 2500 be reasonable for a running/driving silvertop, and what specifics would I need to look for. I have some pictures but would have some trouble uploading right now. Car looks good from the pictures so it's not ugly or totally rotted.

As long as the motor is reasonably clean internally, and as long as the wiring was done correctly (don't know if I did it or not), then $2500's a good price. It would be good to know why it's failing emissions though.

The ST swap would cost around $1200 done cheap. Depending on how the body is $2500 isnt bad at all. I paid 1700 for a regular 87. I bought the silvertop for 600 and I still need to get all the swap components.

"The car runs fine other than the emissions test. It runs at 180 degrees year round, starts fine every time, handles great, I have done a recent tune up of plugs, cap, wires and rotor. I think the reason it isn't passing emissions is related to the AFM that I am running. The 20v afm went out about a year ago and I was told I could run a 3sgte (turbo gen 2 mr2) AFM on it but it runs a little bit richer."
Won't be able to go drive it for about a week. |

I'd buy that if it would pass emissions.
