Read through the FAQ's carefully. Pay special attention to the part dealing with transmissions. With the blacktop, the early transmissions (C50)won't let you fit the stock exhaust manifold due to the starter. The later MR2 transmissions (C52) work perfectly. The trans that comes with the 20v (C56) will have shift linkages requiring extensive modification to work. I recommend getting a C52 if your car came with the C50. *I don't think this is a problem with the silvertop, but read up to be sure*.
Get the COMPLETE 20v swap, with all sensors, ECU, everything. Have mr220v make your wiring harness unless you enjoy pain and heartbreak. He does it for like $300 or $350, something like that. You'll also have to do some custom work with the coolant lines. Something will always come up, so don't start the swap if you don't have a good $500 extra lying around. |

They changed from the C50 to the C52 in 1987 midway through the year, so I'm not sure. You could call up a dealer and give them your VIN, tell them your transmission is bad, and ask which one you would need to order. Or you could crawl under the car and check to see if there's a mounting point for the starter on the intake side as well as the exhaust side. If it has both, it's a C52.
