I don't reuse clay. Clay kits are really inexpensive and I'd not risk marring the paint by using contaminated clay.

What I do is cut the bar in two or three pieces. I put the unused clay in a baggie for storage. If I drop the clay while claying the car I toss it and grab a new unused piece. When I finish claying the paint, I move on to clay the glass and finally the wheels. Once i finish with the wheels I toss the piece of clay.

Clay works equally well on glass and on the wheels as it does on the paint.

My current favorite clay kit is the Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit. Besides the clay and QD lube it comes with a Supreme Shine Microfiber towel, a top notch mf. Hence, I see this a s a pretty good value.
