I might be wrong about this, but I think that HKS (or maybe someone else) used to make an intercooler kit that included a metal enclosure for the IC that sat really close to the bottom driver's side of the firewall, with a lip that protruded a little below the bottom of the underside of the car, and directed air back and then up through the IC, directing the air upwards and out with the natural flow, while still insulating the IC a bit. I don't quite know if I'm explaining this right, but I can't find a picture of it in my archive of crap. Maybe it used a fan too? Or was that the kit that mounted on the passenger's side scoop? Anyways, just thought I'd throw that in.
