I'll not worry about that for now...I might have a bigger problem.

Just before I left the workshop I dumped a one gal "emergency" canister of fuel in my tank -been carring it for a few weeks and I've no real need for one so decided to just use it.

...now there's a slight mis-fire out of gear, above 2,000rpm (it's OK on idle) and it won't drive at all in gear above 2,000rpm -just mis-fires like hell and nearly grounds to a halt. I tried running the car up and down -off the main road but it wasn't clearing. The engine was warmed up by the time I started doing that.

I know the fuel was OK because I filled the canister at the same time I put a full tank in. I'd have thought petrol lasted OK for 6-8 weeks?

So, the only thing I ve done today is a) tightened my throttle cable and b) put 5L of unleaded fuel into a tank which was about 1/3 full initially.

I've left it at the workshop and just changed cars for the moment -too dark to start mucking around.

I'll try to see if there are any ECU error codes in the morning then try an ECU re-set if that's OK. Otherwise it sounds like this fuel I've chucked in is suspicious. The cars driven fine right up to the point I went to drive home so It must be something I've done today. Typical, I'll probably have to cancel the MOT tomorrow morning unless it's something very simple to fix.

Anyone ever had the same thing happen? I'll have a look through the rest of the forum -I recall seeing another thread similar to this now.

BTW: I've had this mis-fire problem ever since I got the engine. Never been a problem before but it's only been seldom and momentary before at about 2,500rpm and only with a cold engine. I've not worked out what it is yet. This is the first day the engine just wouldn't go.
